[ the convenient thing about thinking with portal is you can insert an entire household at the desired destination rather quickly, and keep them all together in line. kanaya had, of course, done just that, herding all of her trolls and weasleys along as they were willing

Yes, well, I'd ever actually seen them all collected in one location previously, though I have borne witness to certain social occasions at which many attended, only with a far different concentration, and not all of them so orphaned from their native timeline as this present gathering.

I suppose it was a great few who thought to wait until the demand had slowed and the crowd would have grown slimmer. But we are no less guilty of such impatience, really.

[ the closest one doesn't actually look like much of an alien actually, so much as a dark-skinned girl with an inexplicable and variable glow about her. once she's fussed everyone through her portal, she's taking stock of the crowd they've found themselves among, including this girl eyeing her curiously (which only makes that glow fuss further itself) ]

[Nothing breaks up the tedium of standing in a line like a bunch of people coming through a portal. It's enough to make Shinji drop his busted comm - brought along just in case - from the surprise.]

at least they're in a place he feels is public enough to keep her from slaughtering him, which means he can safely sass her. he'd do it anyway, but now he has extra reason to do it. this is an opportunity to verbally spit in her face, in public, in person, and he's confident there's zilch she can do about it right now.

so he digs out one of the many purple ink pens he inexplicably keeps on him for signatures, digs out the ink cartridge, and flicks it at her. maybe it'll explode in midair or on her fashionable clothes or something.

he's sad to see the loss of one of those pens, but this is clearly an adult and rational way to broach ~*caliginous feelins*~.]

[ she hadn't even noticed him. maybe she was trying deliberately not to, as his presence would only serve to make her life suddenly harder. no way that would come back against her, right?

so when she's suddenly covered in purple ink, she hadn't at all anticipated it, and the shock is enough that her glow blindingly erupts as she assumes her troll appearance. grabbing some wipes from her purse, she quickly starts cleaning off as much as she can as she scouts the position of the culprit in this most magenta of crimes.
