Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth
WHO: Arya Stark and OPEN
WHERE: All over the City, including back alleys, the docks, in front of store windows, and Central Park.
WHEN: Tuesday June 5th to dawn on the 7th.
WARNINGS: Violence? Also ASoIaF spoilers.
SUMMARY: Arya goes exploring in her new city.
FORMAT: tl;dr to start, then responders choice!
Live. That was the one, sole goal of the girl that slipped through the shadows of the strange City. Survive. She had nothing. No clothing but the rough spun servants clothes of the temple, no weapon but Needle, no gold, no silver, nothing.
But that was stupid. A child’s pathetic mewling. She wasn’t a child. She was a wolf. The wolf. Near to being a woman grown. Crying over what was not known did nothing. The city and its people were there for her to see, to hear, to smell. If she were willing. Do not look. See.. And so she did not cower in the thin wilderness she had found at the city’s heart. Did not close her eyes and wish it away. Upon waking on the second day she returned to the streets.
Many of them spoke the common tongue here, she knew that much. They talked of heroes and other worlds. Stupid stories like old Nan’s, meant for children still young enough to think knights could save their lord’s life or sworn men could keep their promises and bring the princess back to her castle. But they believed them. Things moved fast here, moved loudly, moved without stopping. There was no true night. Bit of cooked, hot dog meat could not be traded for a dead pigeon, though the merchants were slower here than in King’s Landing, unable to notice her when she simply took what she needed. These things were now known to her.
Gnawing on her lip, she darted through the crowds she rushed across the street to reach the other side and resume her hidden place in the deep shadows the false light provided. Pushing away all thoughts of despair and vowing to return to the trees before dawn to rest, Arya once more set forth to find out what else there was to know.

The docks, afternoon of the 6th or ... whenever she's there
He hop-skitters his way down until he's almost at eye level, then calls out.] Hey, kid. You're not lost, are you?

The denial is out before she'd even registered the source of the voice, an automatic reaction to get whoever it was to just leave-
And then she saw him. And nothing in Arya's short life, even having heard of the heroes of the land- had prepared her for the sight of spandex.
"What is that?"

He knew her reaction was about much more than his occasionally -- okay, frequently -- dubious eating habits, of course. Even without the very old-fashioned clothing, it would've given her away as being out of time as well as out of universe. So, a fellow import like himself, only young, alone, and thrust into a world completely alien to everything she knew. Poor kid. Now he had to convince her he was on her side, and not -- well, who knew what a guy in a formfitting, red and blue, full-bodied suit looked like to someone from what looked like the Middle Ages.

"What's you. Is it a dye?"

She still eyed the fabric as he stretched it. The septa's had never taught her anything about that kind of thing. It might not even exist in the Seven Kingdoms.

"Look, I'll admit it's not the name I was born with, but it's still mine. Call it a nickname if that makes it easier." After a considering pause, he adds, "Be silly to have a normal name with this mask, right?"
no subject
But it was less sharp than her first response, more confused than defensive. Nothing about this world made much sense so far. She supposed it was unfair to expect it to start with him.

"So, what's a nice kid like you doing around a place like this alone? There's a lot of heavy equipment being moved around here, you know. It's not safe, especially if the workers don't know to look out for you."
no subject
It was only fair, really, that he have to answer back. Even if her own reply left more than a little to be desired. The idea that anywhere- in this city or any other- would be 'safe,' however, was ridiculous enough to almost make her smile. That and the very fact she was speaking to some man in a fabric mask as though this were normal.

"D'you have an adult somewhere looking after you, who knows where you are?" Not that he didn't already know the answer, but you never knew -- maybe she was from the same universe as that Jaime Lannister guy, or that Septim friend of his.

There's a tiny bit of humor in those words- enough that she hopes he'll forget the second question for a moment. The last thing she needs is to be advertising how alone she is.

He gave himself a firm mental shake. There'd be time enough to deal with that another time, Spidey. "But anyway, as I was saying ... you're not wrong, you know. Giving someone the tools to help themselves is better in the long run then lending them yours just the once. But sometimes you find yourself with a tool that not many other people have, and you can't share it or give it away. So instead you've got to use it for everyone's benefit, not just yours."
He hopped down to the ground and peered up at her from a froglike crouch, head tilted. "With me so far, or have I stretched that analogy to the limit?"
no subject
She watched him crouch, a confused expression still faintly in place, but not overly worried at this point. He meant well, that she was more or less inclined to believe. But good intentions hadn't helped her overly much so far.
"But I can take care of myself."
