[ it hasn't been a good week. Rachel's gone, and now Alex is stuck with her cats, which is fine; and the remaining guilt about the fact that they'd been fighting, which is less fine. he figures it's a better idea to go out patrolling with Power Pack, and let his anger out on the criminals in the City, than to stay cooped up any longer and end up starting a fight in their small apartment. besides, they need cat food.

Alex leans over the edge of the empty rooftop where they're standing, and squints to see what's going down on the streets below. no signs of any drug dealers or shoplifters just yet, but the night is still young. ]

You guys seeing anything yet?

Uh...

[ Franklin sits on the edge of the building and peers at the street. He points to the crosswalk down below. ]

I think that girl's jaywalking.

[disintegrator]

[Katie pokes Franklin in the side, frowning.]

That doesn't count.

[ Alex frowns, too--patrolling is not a joke!--but glances over anyway, mostly to make sure that no cars are coming from either direction. all clear. ]

Guess people aren't out from the bars and stuff yet.

[tattling]

[ Franklin pokes Katie back. ] It totally counts.

[ But he shakes his head and looks down the street in the other direction. Nope, still nothing. ]

It's practically still light out. Bad guys are like vampires, they're only just waking up.

[disintegrator]

[Katie sneaks another poke while turning her attention to her brother.]

We should have waited a few more hours. We could have watched that movie on TV and not missed anything out here.

[weightoftheworld]

[ irritable sigh. ]

You know as well as I do that this is more important than some stupid movie, Energizer!

[tattling]

[ Franklin tries to ~shift reality~ so Katie is suddenly sitting on a small stone, but only succeeds in making himself sit on a small stone. Gosh darn it. He should've asked his future self how to do that. Superhero priority. ]

Maybe we can get the DVD later. Hey, do they have Netflix in this universe?

[disintegrator]

[Grumble, grumble]I was just saying! Nothing happens out here this early.

[She shrugs at Franklin.]

I think they do. We could check.

If you guys want Netflix, it's coming out of your bank accounts!

[ groceries are important too. ]

And we can't stay out too late, school's starting soon. We had better not get used to sleeping in!

[tattling]

[ Franklin starts to calculate in his head. Can that fit in his budget? Then he realises he doesn't know what a 'budget' actually is. ]

--what? Oh, no. [ disgruntled sigh ] Are you gonna make us go?

[disintegrator]

[Making faces. Because, uggh money. Better to pounce on what Franklin said, instead.]

You don't want to go? But Rachel said the Institute here is really nice. Which is what you're talking about, right Alex?

'Course I'm gonna make you go! School's important, Frank! [ his tone holds no room for argument, young man. ] I know you were home-schooled back in our world, but there's no way for you to do that here– [ his tone softens a bit, remembering the situation with the FF ] –an' anyway, Katie and I are going too. So that's that. It'll be fine, I promise!

[ turning away from him, Alex pulls a face at Katie, but grudgingly nods in response to her question. ]

If you really want to, Katie, we can go ahead an' enroll at the Institute for the fall semester. I've heard that the public schools in the City aren't very friendly to ImPorts...so it's probably our safest bet, right?

[ actually, Alex hardly cares about the threat of bullying. it's nothing that he (and Katie) haven't dealt with plenty before.
...but Rachel definitely would have wanted them to go back. ]

[tattling]

I know it's important, Alex. [ Not that he believes it, which is obvious from his tone. Also from the rolling of his eyes.

He's certainly more interested when Katie mentions the Institute, though. he glances at her, then back at Alex. ] Wait, we can go to X-men school, not just boring City school?

[ YEP EXCITEMENT ]

We can use powers there!

[disintegrator]

Yeah, we can! They're letting all the ImPorts go there, Franklin. Rachel even said she'd let us see the Danger Room they have here.

[She beams at her brother.]

I really want to. Like you said, it'd the safest option and we'd get to meet all the other ImPort kids.
