Having a 9-5 job meant that Kang had his weekends free, and that left plenty of time to take care of buying food. He'd realized that the diet he was used to wasn't exactly the healthiest for a human, consisting of mostly meat and vegetables, with some grains and occasional cheese. It was yet another adjustment he was having to make to life in the City.

The biggest change was actually eating fruit. Sweet things were more tolerable in his human body, but he still wasn't very fond of them, and he eyed the selection of fruit critically in a little market he'd found a few blocks south of the MAC. Some of them were familiar, but others, like lychee and kiwi, he'd never even heard of before.

Jade didn't go to the market often. She grew all the veggies the house needed but fruits weren't quite as easy. Sure she could grow plenty of the smaller fruits but things like apples and oranges were more difficult to cultivate. Not only that but it'd be some time before the tree would be ready to produce fruit.

She was busy inspecting fruit, trying to find those that were just right. She hadn't bothered to wear a hat or anything to cover her ears for once. As she sorted through some apples she happened to notice Kang and made her way toward him.

"Having trouble on deciding what to get?"

Kang smiled wryly, picking up a banana, "I don't even know what most of these are, ma'am." He noticed the ears, but didn't give them more than one curious glance before turning his attention back to her face.

He set the banana back down and picked up an apple. That, at least, was familiar, even if he'd never eaten one before.

"Are fruits not common where you're from?" She recognized him from the network so the question didn't seem odd to her. Although it may have seemed odd to any passerby in the store.

"I can help if you want."

"No, they're very common. I've simply never been interested in knowing what all of them are, since I've never needed to eat them before." Kang paused, brow furrowing slightly. "How do you know I'm an Import?"

[dogwitch]

"Oh. Well in any case maybe I can make suggestions?" She smiles although that smile fades a bit at his questions. "Oh, I've seen you on the network. You're um, usually more scaly right?" Her ears stand straight up as she awaits his response.

"Ah, of course, ma'am. And yes, usually." Kang nodded. It made sense that Imports would recognize each other from the network.

[dogwitch]

"I think that's really neat! The whole being big and scaly thing." She gave a little laugh and smiled up at him. She often wish she had more than just the dog ears. But that was Jade, the not so secret furry.

"Um, as far as fruits go I guess it depends on what you want. Some are sweeter than others while some are really sour. But you can also mix sweet and sour fruits together into a fruit salad and it helps balance things out. There's even some fruits with a more savoury flavour to them."

Kang looked down briefly, unable to help a very quiet exhale through his nose. "Everyone seems to think so."

He shrugged. "I'm not all that fond of sweet things."

"Then you might try the fruit salad approach. It'll at least cut back on how sweet the sweeter fruits are."

She hummed thoughtfully as she looked over the selection of fruit before them. "Green apples are more on the sour side than the red ones. Oranges as well and lemons and limes are citrus fruits so they're sour. Although the lemons and limes far more so than oranges." She pointed out each fruit as they went along.

"Grapes are the same way, the purple ones are more sweet while the green more sour. Same with berries. Blueberries are sweeter while raspberries and blackberries are more sour. Pineapple is kind of sour wit the same texture as the citrus fruits. And then bananas are more sweet the more ripe they get." She paused and looked up at him, hoping she hadn't been overwhelming with the information.
