[ kanaya is largely feeling much the same, so when she sees john huddled in the corner, she takes it as an excuse to duck away herself, drink in hand. it's her third, and she is probably beginning to get a bit tipsy.

[ Kanaya is in luck, John hasn't had a single drop to drink, so no matter how tipsy she gets, John'll be there to lend her a shoulder if she needs to drunkenly tip over onto someone. Though drunk Kanaya gets very... texty. So he hopes she doesn't have too much so his phone doesn't explode with messages again.

Also when he asks that question his expression goes flat. He doesn't feel bad about hurting Davesprite's feelings or insulting his idea of fun at all. ]

Not even a little bit.

[ oh thank god. his answer is actually a huge relief, it means she's not the only one. she doesn't even have to try to pretend. ]

[ He figured he couldn't be the only one here that didn't enjoy it, and he has to admit he's not really surprised to hear that Kanaya doesn't. She's not really prudish exactly, but she seems like the type that gets kind of flustered at things like this, and would feel pretty uncomfortable with girls sticking their boobs in her face. Especially when other people were around to watch. ]

Yeah, Dave's idea was pretty stupid.

[ john, stop knowing her so well, it's disconcerting. she probably couldn't handle this even in private, but it may not be nearly as bad. just mostly bad.

she takes another sip of her drink, not sure whether to blame davesprite or herself more. ]

I don't know why we allowed ourselves to be forced into attendance here.

[ Never! ... Honestly, not because he's trying to spite her, he's just good at that without meaning to be.

Also John is all for blaming Davesprite. Just saying, if she wants to blame this entire situation on him, John stands by her decision and supports her completely. ]

I don't either. It was pretty stupid.

[ He sighs, and turns to look around the room. Most of the other people in here seem to be enjoying themselves just fine. ]

[ the whooping and hollering of the assumed more appropriately aged patrons only makes it worse. it gives the impression that something must be wrong with them to not be joining in.

but don't worry, she will be putting as much blame on davesprite as she can when rose asks about it. but deep down, she'll know there the guilt really lies. she'll know. ]

We have to get out of here.

[ Well... to Kanaya, maybe. John just feels like the people whooping and hollering are kind of stupid and probably a bunch of assholes. He's probably not wrong about that either.

He's also not going to blame himself for this at all, but it helps that he doesn't have a girlfriend so he's got no reason to feel guilty for being here. ]

[ well, of course. everything is probably her fault anyway. ]

Do you think it would be wrong if we did? [ she looks back at the daves. maybe they're enjoying themselves. ] Can we just...leave them here?

[ Nope, it's definitely all the Daves' fault. If she needs reassurance of that often and daily then John will be glad to provide it.

He glances over at Dave, then Davesprite and shrugs. ]

Yeah, why not? I think they'll be fine here.

[ she makes several quick glances to the door, then, tilting her neck to signal their exit. ]

Then let's abscond. I'd like to be far away from here if Rose ever finds out about this.

[ She doesn't have to tell him twice, he's already up and out of his chair, and offering her a hand to help her stand if she wants. ]

I will definitely cover for you if she does.

If she sees you first, at least. [ she won't. ] If hearing of it is distasteful to her, she may address the situation directly. [ she will. ]

Oh yeah... Well we can always ask people to tell her that you weren't here? I think most of the people wouldn't mind.

And you really expect that will prevent her from uncovering it? She always seems to have methods of discernment beyond the plain or reasonable.

Not if no one tips her off that there is something for her to snoop into in the first place.

The announcement of this undertaking was rather public. My absence coincides with it.

You think she won't be able to discern the answer from that information? That she'll dismiss it as circumstantial if the thought occurs to her?

Uh... maybe not? But if you come up with a good excuse maybe she won't really think too much about it?

What kind of excuse could possibly serve that purpose?

You were... uh... Okay, I don't have a good excuse now, but we can think up something before tonight is over!

Perhaps we'll have some time on our walk to... [ she looks around, as they've already left the club behind them, having a vague idea where they are, but nothing exact, and no destination in mind beyond away. ] ...wherever it is we're going.

[ Now that's the spirit! Sort of, at least she's fretting less over trying to make sure Rose doesn't kill her over this and more over where they're headed at the moment. Which now that she brings it up... John's not totally sure himself. ]

Uh... yeah, now that you mention it. Where are we going?

I...hadn't yet decided. There is the other club, I suppose. We might arrive a little early, but it's at least a destination.

[ Oh yeah! They probably don't want him killed either. John hadn't even considered that possibility. ]

Good plan! We can check the place out for other people first so we can tell them what to expect.

I'm not really sure what we'll find, but perhaps that only compounds the necessity of this maneuver. Either way, it can't be worse than the location we're putting behind us.
