It was a beautiful city, green and lush. Morning mist locked fingers with older stone and quiet brick. Much of the populace lulled in the valley between two solid growths of mountains, cushioned in an ancient palm and electrified by the lively pulse of the crisp, rain-courted air. The temperature is brisk, chilly, but that shouldn't discourage you from enjoying the lakes and rivers breathing through the land. The city itself is equally crisp and its usually pristine avenues are ablaze with color; banners and posters and warm hellos. There was warmth everywhere, in homes and faces and hands.

Welcome to Mérida, Hero.

[Peter doesn't have a drink, but he's twirling a paper umbrella between his fingers. He nods in Reed's direction, expression a little too carefully nonchalant.]

Hey, Reed. Enjoying the party so far?

[elongates]

[ Immediately passing an acknowledging glance in Peter's direction, Reed's head turns back to look at the crowd. ]

Seems like it. [ A pause, as he dwells. ] Hey, Peter. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised to see you here.

[He shrugs.] Action is my reward, as the song goes, and we don't get any action here before the week is out, I'd be very, very surprised.

Anyway, the kids needed chaperones.

What about you? You've always struck me as preferring the perks of being a wallflower. [Then again, he is evil now, so.]

[elongates]

Right. I could understand that sentiment. [ A little cheekily: ] When I think Peter Parker, I think "child."

[ In turn, he gives a little shrug. ]

And that's not inaccurate, but Ben―you do know how my Ben is? He's been constantly trying to drag me from my desk. I thought I might as well do what he asks for the sake of friendship, for once.

But... I agree. I'd really like to keep my fingers crossed for something that will make this trip worthwhile.

[Frowning, but voice still light.] Not sure I'd call a possibly impending superhero crisis "worthwhile," Reed.

[elongates]

[ A press of his lips. He can't help but chide, if only mildly. ] Consider it less of a crisis and more of an event, Peter. A phenomenon. What we can't predict and what we can't prepare for leads to room for future learning and discovery.

[ A thoughtful beat. ]

If anything happens, that is. [ Giddily, even youthful: ] Isn't the thought of something new exciting? I think it's exciting.

When people could get hurt, and probably will be? Not so much, no.

[elongates]

[ Before replying, his gaze drags across the crowd. A little bit of caution doesn't hurt. ]

Aren't we fortunate enough to have people like you here to prevent casualties? The most ideal situation wouldn't be uneventful, but something marked with a marvelous occurrence and the day being saved with flying colors.

A little bit of illusionment to the public wouldn't hurt, however dishonest as it might be.
