[It's been way too long since Kate donned her purple costume and went out to patrol the City. In some ways she's a bit out of practice, having only gotten some good shooting in at the practice range or out back behind the Avengers Mansion. Her signature lilac colored sunglasses have been gathering dust while most of her focus has been on activities she can sign her legal name too, like trying to get into college and yelling at the Mayor and April.

But it feels great being outside again, even if it's still ridiculously cold outside. She's not giving up the midriff top yet, though she's got an extra scarf on. It flutters in the wind as she starts out on her walkabout. She's ready to get back into the swing of things. It's really been too long.]

[ when kanaya sees hawkeye coming her way, she certainly catches her attention, but maybe for the wrong reasons. superhero fashion may have been part of the original topic donna had in mind when she started city lights, but despite her exposure so far, kanaya could never really wrap her head around it.

some examples stand out a little more than others, of course. kanaya hopes she wouldn't be interrupting her from anything when she raises a hand to stop her, trying to think of a less awkward way to broach the topic. ]

Um...excuse me, but who designed that for you, exactly?

[Kate smiles when she sees Kanaya, assuming that she clearly must've recognized Kate in her Hawkeye costume. The disconnect takes a second to register, and in that time she swaps from her familiar stance to one more fitting of a big damn hero.]

I came up with it myself as a matter of fact.

[ she might recognize her a bit, but they haven't spent much time together since...well, that whole arm thing. humans still all look the same to her sometimes, but give her a minute and it'll probably click. she'd be more embarrassed at the question if it already had, and she'll have to measure her response far more carefully because of the answer. ]

I suppose that's typical in your line of work, isn't it? So, what...um. [ don't you dare say "possessed". ] What was it that inspired this particular style, exactly?

Sorry if it's a weird question, it's just...this is what I do. As a job, I mean.

[There's a sense of pride in her voice as she speaks, and she strikes a pose with her bow. It isn't everyday she gets "interviewed" about superhero fashion trends, and Kate considers herself something of an expert.]

I wanted something eye-catching and a little bit sexy. Lots of heroes show off their butts and their boobs, with impractically low necklines and high-cut leotards. Others cover up completely with bodysuits masking every inch of skin. I wanted to look different. And I've got the abs for it.

[She gestures to her enviably flat stomach.]

As for the purple... well, I wouldn't be Hawkeye without a purple costume.

[ so the color was non-negotiable. fair enough. and she is right about having the stomach for it, though kanaya's own modesty would have advised against it. of course, kate doesn't have the same scars there to worry about hiding, either. ]

What was it you used to get that...glossy texture? And how do you think the scarf fits in the whole ensemble?

Again, it's about getting attention. The material is really pretty standard for superheroes where I'm from.

[She fluffs her scarf for effect.]

And I have a collection of these. I just think it's cute.

It seems like it would drag a bi-- [ and that's when the recognition hits, and her shoulders tense as she shrinks down, her lips pulling down into a cringe as she loses the certainty in her voice. ] I mean, it could...that might present an obvious hazard, both in travel and an altercation. Has it, um, never given you problems?

Problems?

[Let's be real, they aren't the most practical accessories, occasionally billowing up into her face or tangling with her hair. Sometimes they'll obstruct her range of motion and just generally be nuisances. But it's her look, and she happens to like it. So she manages a casual shrug.]

They're not anymore problematic than my hair.

[ she supposes that's true, the long look never really worked for her. sure, it looks fine on others, but for those few days when she was an adult the hair was nearly as inconvenient as her height. she'd rather keep it off her neck for the end of time. ]

Yes, but unlike your hair, it isn't attached to your actual person. It's an optional addition that was made consciously.

Are you, um... [ wow how can she even ask this without sounding rude? ] satisfied with it? Have you ever considered a change to the outfit?

I like it a lot. I mean, why would I wear something I hate?

[Then it suddenly occurs to her that maybe Kanaya isn't totally satisfied with it.]

Why? Do you think I need a makeover?

[ kanaya puts her hands up in embarrassed dissemblance, her frown now impossible to hide. ]

I'm hardly an expert on superheroic fashion! I...don't really get them, honestly.

[ she thinks most of them are hideous. ]

What's not to get?

[The question is half-rhetorical, half-posed to Kanaya. Kate's always thought these things were pretty cut and dry.]

You have a persona, and usually a color scheme to go with it, and you start building up from there.

Well, just... It isn't the color. But between the cut and the texture... [ she hesitates a moment before finally blurting out: ] Is the whole idea to make it as gaudy and attention-drawing as possible?

Gaudy?

[Hey! She takes offense to that!]

That's a little harsh. What would you have done differently, hm?

I don't-- [ she sighs, she's probably well past trying to defend herself. might as well get to the question instead. ]

Kill the scarf. [ she says it quickly, like it's obvious. ] But replace it with something to offset the lack. A funnel collar, I think. I probably couldn't get you to budge on the belly, but I think the notch at the waist is a bit much.

And the color! Something less glossy, maybe a deeper purple. The free hair you can keep, but I would recommend at least pinning the bangs back. You've a good face, there's little point in hiding it.

[Kate stares, gapes really, like she's stunned by what's just been said. But slowly, she nods, taking that all in.]

I guess I could stand to update it. I mean, it's been awhile since I changed things up.

I don't have as much experience with superhero fashion, as I said, but I'd be willing to serve as a consult. ...If nothing more.

If I'm this tragically out of style, I probably really need you.

To be fair, I had to devote a great deal of attention to understand even the basics of what the current styles are here. Before that, I was largely winging it with no real foundation to work from but my own aesthetic tastes.

But I'd be happy to help, if we could come to some kind of compromise.

A girl's gotta start somewhere.

Maybe a trip to the mall is in order.

Maybe for basic ideas, but I think a job like yours would still demand a custom design.
