so i'm running late on purpose
WHO: GIL and NELSON
WHERE: Nelson and Hooded Justice's apartment
WHEN: evening? Let's go with evening.
WARNINGS: tba.
SUMMARY: Gil tattletales on Eddie, but has his own concerns about Nelson and this superhero business.
FORMAT: whatever.
Wrestling up the courage to give Nelson a call had been a difficult feat and while that had passed surprisingly fast there was now the following conversation to dread and Gil had no idea where he was going to start or what he was even going to start about. Even as he carried himself through the lobby of the MAC, he dawdled in front of the elevator for several minutes before pressing the button and entering it. He hit Nelson's floor number and waited, throat dry and stomach churning with anxiety. He hadn't thought this through -- although there was no backing out of it now. He owed Nelson that much.
With a crisp ding the elevator came to a full stop and the doors slid open. He marched out and down the hall to the apartment door, straightened himself out, debated turning around and walking back into the elevator, decided against it, and knocked not too loud.

Gilbert. Good to see you. Come in, come in.
[ He moved aside to let Gil in. ]

[ Nelson isn't sure what Gil means at first, before he looks at the ice pack in his hand. ]
Oh, I'm fine. This is just to get the swelling to go down. [ He smiles and waves his other hand dismissively. ] Don't worry.

[ He pauses, then manages a smile again. ]
Now, what can I help you with?
1/2
2/2
You see... well, I wanted to talk to you about the Deputy Mayor.
no subject
[ Nelson shakes his head, cheeks reddening slightly before he raises his eyebrows. ]
The Deputy Mayor? [ His expression goes wary and his face colors more. ] Uh... what about him?
no subject
It's... He's a little concerned about things...
no subject
Gilbert, what is it?
no subject
no subject
What about Hooded Justice and me? Th-there's nothing to-- [ He forces himself to swallow. ] What did he say, exactly?
no subject
The Deputy Mayor isn't trusting of Hooded Justice. [ And Nelson, but he omits that part for now. ] He thinks he's dangerous.
no subject
Oh, is that all? I assure you, Gilbert, things are just fine. Hooded Justice isn't dangerous. [ He puts the ice on his eye again. ] Besides -- I've been keeping an eye on him.
no subject
He said some strange things...
no subject
[ Nelson's a little huffy, in defensive-mode already, though he's trying to restrain himself for Gil's sake. ]
What things? Gilbert -- the Deputy Mayor is worrying over nothing. Did he send you here?
no subject
no subject
He just doesn't seem to like me any-- that's all this is. No matter what I-I do to try to please him-- Gilbert, it's absurd. I've done nothing wrong.
no subject
He is an odd man himself... [ Politicians usually had their own agenda. ] I didn't claim you were! But... [ He sighs. ] Perhaps he's worried about this whole hero business.
no subject
[ He exhales in annoyance, shaking his head. ]
Don't you think so?
no subject
Hypocritical is what he feels. Nick Fury's "project" for him and the others... that was basically heroism, wasn't it? ]
I don't know what to think.
no subject
[ He sits forward a little, looking at Gil very matter-of-factly. ]
If you've got a stopped watch, you don't take it all the way apart. You simply wind it. Nothing good can come of this kind of excess, particularly not when there's other people out there who could use this kind of attention far more.
no subject
The Deputy Mayor's proposal will try to ensure government regulated... superheroes... are safe. You don't think he'll keep his word?
no subject
He may. He may not. I'm not sure. I know that it-- there's merit to the idea, but I've seen how it can go wrong. I'm not interested in seeing that happen again.
no subject
[ He nods briefly, only half understanding of where Nelson may be coming from. Eddie's plans sounded rough around the edges, but given how it requires a vote, he doesn't know if it'll even take off given how many imPorts have dual identities. ]
Though Mr. Nelson... are you really going to continue it? [ A pause. ] Being Captain... Metropolis.
