ASTHENOA
WHO: The imPorts trapped in a video game.
WHERE: The virtual world of Asthenoa.
WHEN: 10AM August 26th to 11PM August 31st.
WARNINGS: Violence and fighting. Alert me of anything else for updates.
SUMMARY: A comedy of errors: imPorts are trapped in a Vulcanus-made video game.
FORMAT: As you like it.
Asthenoa is a land set on lush rolling hills under a bright blue sky eternally streaked with clouds. The only celestial variance comes during the nightly setting, where an eternally yellow full moon partially hides behind those clouds. The people of Asthenoa may be human, or elven, or dwarven, or they may have animalistic features, but none of that is of great social concern. Asthenoa has always been this way. The heart of the land is a medieval town set upon one of the highest hills, and the middle of that town sits a majestic stone castle. The busiest part of the town is the center, which hosts the marketplace. There you can buy necessities, or meet the blacksmith and other artisans at their working studios. Beyond the artisanal studios are the taverns and the inns.
Beyond the cheerier inns is a place called The Shriveled Shrike. If you head to the second floor and knock on the third room door thrice and rub your knee against the handle once, it will magically open and expose to you a staircase. People of the Rogue class know this inherently.
The staircase is five flights long. It leads to a black market in a mile long, mile wide underground bunker, where gambling and other darker magicks are indulged. You might meet a necromancer or three. You might run into trouble.
If you were to step out beyond the town, you would have to cross a moat via the drawbridge. It’s always closed up at nighttime, you can only pass during the day.
Beyond the moat (where serpents might swim) is a hilly pasture. Beyond the pasture is an enchanted forest. Strange things happen in these gnarled woods – this is where mystical creatures lurk. Acres of dark wood house sparkling lights and floating orbs and very unusual flora. The fauna includes many mythical beings, including centaurs and fairies and griffins. There could be even more hidden within secret caves or pools of darkening water.
You feel the need to venture past this alluring wood. You feel it deeply.

For Frank
...Except that so far there's no sign that she's getting anywhere, even back to the entrance. Just the walls and passages of the labyrinth, on and on, long enough for even Minako to begin to second-guess herself, far too long for doubling back to be of any use even if she tried it.
No way to go but onward.
She pads along on bare feet, trailing her fingertips lightly along the wall at her side - at least until she rounds a corner and finds herself suddenly confronted with a man in armor brandishing a sword in her direction. The sight has her instinctively falling back a step and into a defensive stance, bringing her crooked staff up in front of her and into both hands.]
--an enemy?
no subject
Another girl that young stuck here; she luckily appears unharmed. It's an unsettling pattern at this point. ] ...no; not me.
[ Frank lowers his sword, but he does not sheath it. ] But the maze is full of them.
sorry about the late tag! >_<
[She takes a moment to glance back and forth along the featureless passageway.] I haven't been able to figure out yet what we have to do to get out of here. It'll be bad if we can't find the way back out.
no worries i have been so slow myself
[ He doesn't want to involve himself, but leaving a girl like her alone in this place isn't an option. Especially when the place is full of monsters like...
...not like the fluffy, small things he sees when he rounds the next corner.
This could not be serious. ]
no subject
...bunnies?
[She stops again, because much as she thought she was prepared for anything, she really wasn't prepared for this.
Without really thinking about it, she crouches down for a better look, still gripping her staff in one hand.]
no subject
It sounds incredibly paranoid to be suspicious of bunnies, of all things, but even so... ]
Watch yourself.
no subject
[She tries. She really does try, but no matter how she looks at them, they just look like cute, fluffy little bunnies.]
...they really don't seem dangerous, though...
[Only half-consciously, she reaches out towards the nearest one, cautiously at first, but the rabbit does not suddenly bare fangs and attack or anything like that. In the absence of an obvious danger Minako just can't resist giving the soft fur a gentle pat.
'See?' she begins to say, looking up at Frank - but before the word can leave her mouth, a shudder racks her body and her expression abruptly changes to one of alarm, pain and confusion. The only sound that leaves her is a strangled intake of breath, followed by a sudden fit of unpleasantly wet coughing that doubles her over herself.]
no subject
It's only when she looks up that he realizes: yes, he should have gutted it from the start. ]
Hey-- [ His voice snaps as he grabs hold of her, grabbing hold of her with his free hand and yanking her back away from the monster -- yes, it is decidedly a monster now, so he drives his sword through it. His eyes are on the creatures, even as he addresses Minako: ] Say something.
[ Anything to confirm she isn't going to choke on her own blood. ]
no subject
[She's clearly nothing like all right, given the amount of blood she's hacking up even as she forces out the words, but if she's capable of speech at least that's something, right?
Still shuddering, Minako grips her crooked staff, which lights up with glowing runes for a moment before the shape of her whole body twists and compacts. In moments, where there was a girl, there's now a wolf, jaws already streaked with blood; it lunges forward to seize one of the rabbit-creatures and give it a fierce, neck-snapping shake.]
no subject
It seems she isn't afraid of blood then.
He doesn't hesitate in driving his sword through the ones that remain. Distantly, he realizes he feels sluggish and his swings don't carry the same impact as they usually would... it's less direct than vomiting blood, but it's another influence these creatures have.
But, in the end, they're bunnies, and they don't have much else in the means of self defense. ]
no subject
She kneels on the floor for a little bit, wiping blood from her mouth with the back of her hand and trying to breathe steadily. That was... an unpleasant experience.]
...sorry. [She sounds abashed, and doesn't look up again yet.] Even after you warned me to be careful...
no subject
You all right? [ He doesn't acknowledge the apology. Yes, she'd made a mistake and she paid for it. He wasn't going to pile on top of that when she's coughing up blood. ]
no subject
[Shakily, she starts to get back onto her feet, using her staff for leverage.]
I guess I still have further to go, after all. [She looks towards Frank again, brows lifted.] You're okay, right?
no subject
He watches her get back on her feet, debating offering her his arm. ]
Good to keep moving?
