[ if there's something particularly notable about his entrance, kanaya doesn't notice. a customer's a customer, right? his hair growth in such a short time is rather remarkable, though. she's pretty sure it was shorter than hers last time she saw him in the dojo.

she comes up to his table, pad in hand. ]

Welcome to the Pie Hole, is there anything I can start you off with? Coffee, perhaps?

[ She's a familiar face -- not the kind he was seeking out when he came here, but he's welcoming all the same. He smiles at her, lowering his menu to focus on her completely as he greets her. ] Hello again.

Perhaps. [ His gaze scans the drinks section of the menu specifically. ] Yes; that will do for now.

Unless there is something else you would recommended?

[ she scribbles on her pad before meeting his eyes, returning his greeting with a nod and a polite smile. ]

If you haven't found anything yet to catch your fancy, you might take a look at our specials. One can never go wrong with pumpkin pie in this season, though the chestnut cream is rather wonderful, if you want to know my opinion.

[ Although Kanaya's suggestions are very well in themselves, Kirei doubts anything she offers will truthfully be 'wonderful' for his tastes. ]

Chestnut then. [ He says, offering a slight smile. ] I'll trust your judgment.

Right. [ said with the confidence of a expert, she raises an eyebrow and jots a few things down on her notepad before tapping it against her chin thoughtfully. ]

So, I don't see you darkening our door terribly often, was there something particular that put you in the mood today?

[toolongdidntrejoice]

Nothing too particular. [ Not quite a lie, exactly. ] I was wondering about your coworkers.

[ He smiles, more unkind than disarming, and the compliment that follows somehow seems more ominous than flattering. ] But you are also quite welcome company.

[glowsferatu]

[ she raises her eyebrows at that look, and the friendly smile she puts on for the customers suddenly seems that much more forced. she looks back toward the kitchen. ]

Well, uh. I could always go fetch them...if that's what you're after. I have to head that way to put in your order of course, so it, um... [ she's not doing a very good job of not making this awkward. she really should be smoother with customers. ]

[toolongdidntrejoice]

[ Kirei shakes his head, giving a small and dismissive wave of his hand. ] That isn't necessary. You don't need to go through the trouble.

My arrival will be something of a surprise, so I'd prefer to be discreet. [ Posed as if it's a playful sort of thing, rather than a thread. ]

[ she's still not completely at ease. that odd smile's gone, but it isn't entirely forgotten. she still isn't sure what to quite make of him in general. ]

So...more of a surprise, then. Is this related to how your hair's suddenly grown so much longer?

[ Kirei rests his arms on the table, threading his fingers together idly. ]

My hair, as well as my age, in fact. [ He supposes he ought to pleased that it doesn't show much, although he has never been hung up on aesthetics. ]

I'm a more familiar sight like this.

[ as someone who puts a great deal of importance into aesthetics, she thinks she may have preferred the earlier cut. not that she's going to say that. ]

Which is why you'd prefer the sight to announce it than anything more overt. I suppose we all like to play things at a certain closeness to the chest.

You could say so.

[ Kirei watches her, his head tilting slightly, and after a moment, he remarks: ]

Are you close to your coworkers?

[ her hand comes up to rub at her shoulder idly. her eyes aren't on him, but lingering towards the kitchen. ]

I don't think "close" is what I'd call it. I know most of them in at least a passing manner, but I wouldn't consider myself really close to any of them other than Minako.

[ she gets along with lancer okay but doesn't really know him outside of work, and her entire relationship with archer is composed of exchanging passive aggressive barbs. it's a fun work environment. ]
