He could hear Topher shifting himself away from them and held a finger to his lips for Seras' benefit, not wanting her to speak as that might draw the guy back to the door.

Strike that. Make it 'shout', not 'speak'. Sure, he could probably have just broken the door down as himself and cracked a few of the guy's ribs in an effort to persuade him to let the girl in, but doors were not meant to serve as welcome mats. And he really didn't think it needed so violent a solution anyway.

Something taller than the doorframe itself sets its claws into the crack between the door proper and the electronic lock, then rips it free with a snarl, shredded wires sparking out and dying in its wake.

"...Open now."
