Eleanor didn't want to think about the whole city being like this, it was...unimaginable, really. Well, no, she could imagine it she just didn't want to. "It can't be that bad." She finally decided.
And then she grinned at him almost impishly. "You'll see. If this works I'll go get the fire department to dig us out."
She sucked in a breath, bracing herself, and then took two steps forward and, for all intents and purposes, exploded. Where she had stood there was a cloud of ionizing air that crackled with a harsh purple light as it disintegrated into nothing.
For five or six seconds, the snow at the doorway seemed to...shimmer...as if something were trying to pass through it. It was a off-color shimmer, the sort of ill light cast by broken neon lights with half their bulbs exposed.
And then, in another explosion (or perhaps an implosion) of ionizing light and air, Eleanor reappeared...and was hurled backwards through the air. She hit the floor on her back, hard, and slid to a stop almost into the hotel proper.
