She hesitated to answer him, opening her mouth to say no, wincing when she heard herself say, "A little, yes." She could kick herself, she really could. But instead she settled on adding, "But not scared enough to stop."

It was the truth anyway, at least he couldn't say she'd lied to him. A little fear had to be healthy, she decided. She was in a potentially dangerous situation with a man who could kill her without meaning to, even before he realized what he was doing. Fear was the natural response, really. But Bobbi really didn't want to offend him either. His feelings mattered, for whatever reason, and if he said no, she'd take the no and run the risk. She was just stupid enough to do it.
