Sanji stood and smoked for a bit, until he came to the end of his cigarette. He crushed the butt against the sole of his shoe and put it away, checking to see how many he had left. Yep, he'd need a new pack at this rate.

"I'm not about to get trapped in this shitty world," he muttered darkly. "But I don't know if anybody else knows this information. It might change the way things are organized...if they are, at all." He shrugged. "I haven't seen much besides our kind just running around the streets beating on anyone who tries to beat them first. Could be different down where the porter-machine building is."

ahaha pardon my fail - retcon on spell names but the effect is the same

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-20 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
As soon as the order came off Jack's lips, Geddoe began chanting the spell under his breath. True Lightning was ready to respond, though it still took an extra couple of seconds to fully prepare the Furious Blow. He raised his fist high as a secondary warning before discharging the spell, sending a single powerful bolt of lightning straight out forward from their position. Their enemies were clustered close enough together that the shock hit every last one of them, traveling from one to the next along that line. It was much more powerful than any taser. If anyone could still stand after that, he would have been wise to surrender, because a higher-level spell on the heels of the first could kill them.

Ah? Is it more weird people? Why do they keep coming after you?

Geddoe had made it to the Porter building, and after a few hours' nap in the middle of the night, was back on the front line as of 7 am. He was not about to let anyone through, and here was where the protecting forces needed his tactical expertise. And his abilities, for that matter. He would carefully conserve spells today, in case the battle lasted. But it looked like some of the fresh reinforcements from overnight were already flagging. And he could see out of the corner of his good eye, there were skirmishes at the far flanks. Almost as if allied reinforcements were coming in from the side streets, pushing the Crabhammer army in a pincer move.

And still Geddoe stood unmoved, punching and slicing at anyone who came too close. He would be the center of the shield wall, holding the line at the shattered doors of the building. The whole of this army would have to go through him to get to their goal, and he had a few Thunderstorms ready for any who tried.

I know what I'm saying! You've survived battles without lunch before, don't give me that! [huff] Though I have my wallet if you want to stop and stock up somewhere.

I came out here to protect some of the ladies I know, but I found something out a little while ago. [suddenly! grim Sanji is grim] They want to destroy the machine that brought us here. We'll be trapped in this world forever.

"NO ONE ELSE NEEDS TO GET HURT!" Jack's yell merged with the last echoes of the thunder. "PUT YOUR HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEADS AND GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!"

But they were already complying, those ragged, wide-eyed few still standing, hurling away their weapons and throwing themselves down on the ground, terrified. This fight was over. Jack let out a small sigh, then looked at Geddoe while continuing to cover them with his sidearm. "Get their weapons."

He was going to need a lot of handcuffs for all these. Good thing he had spares in the car.

Nodding once, Geddoe dared to sheath his sword and swiftly moved among the prone assailants, collecting guns and knives and kicking away any debris that could be grabbed and used as weapons. He tucked a few of the blades into his belt for safe-keeping, but the guns he tossed on the front seat of Jack's SUV, not wanting to touch them for too long. It was a safety concern; he only knew the vaguest theory of how they worked and didn't want to set one of on accident.

He stood back and brushed a glove across his brow. He was sweating a bit under the strap of his eyepatch. "I think I'd best stick with you from this point on," he huffed. "At your command."

When fellow Imports arrived to help, Freedom Ring had been able to force the Crabhammers out of the Porter building and back onto the streets. He was glad for the company and back up. He stayed near the back of the front lines, maintaining a shield to keep any Crabhammmers that managed to slip past the others from getting farther.

"How's it looking out there?" Freedom Ring called up to anyone that would answer, focusing on keeping the shimmering energy barrier strong.
out_of_time: Jack running with a gun (We're running out of time!)

[personal profile] out_of_time 2011-05-20 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack finished handcuffing the surviving suspects and told them to stay still. Hopefully it wouldn't be long until the police and paramedics came for them- and the bodies of their friends, lying nearby. It wasn't exactly what regulations mandated, but neither Jack or Geddoe could stay around to wait with them. The roadblock could have been overrun by more enemies like these by now, its officers dead or fighting for their lives. At any rate, Jack couldn't raise them on the radio anymore. They were running out of time.

He got back into the car and opened the passenger door for Geddoe. "Get in, then."

Final police push, open

[personal profile] out_of_time 2011-05-21 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
At long last an end was in sight, but for Jack that was a reason to push harder than ever before. The hostile force had splintered into different factions, lost ground and people throughout the City, and now were now being steadily pressed back into an ever-tightening perimeter. All they had to do was break this last resistance, and it would finally be over.

Jack stood on top of a police van, yelling into a megaphone. In front of him, a line of riot police pushed forward with their shields interlocked and batons swinging, driving into a crowd of thousands shouting something about Madagascar. Jack shouted over them:

"IT'S OVER! YOU HAVE LOST! GIVE UP NOW! THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO! PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPONS AND RAISE YOUR HANDS OVER YOUR HEADS!" A bag of Tabasco sauce spattered near his feet. He ignored it.

Once he was sure, absoultely sure, that there weren't going to be any more surprises, Jack finally gave in. He staggered and stumbled back to his battered car, climbed in, and collapsed in the seat. It had been three days since he'd had a full night's sleep.

Outside the car, his officers gave him a wide and quiet berth. Inside, Jack thought about the City, his life in it, and what had just happened. Then, he slowly leaned back and closed his eyes.

Use your brain for once! [with a poke poke poke at that hat] When Merry was broken, on the sky island, we couldn't go anywhere until she was fixed. Right? The same thing will happen if they break that machine! It's our ship out of here!

I heard them saying they wanted to send us home. I would've let them if that was all it was about. But they've changed their minds. And they're hurting people...killing people.

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-21 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
By now Geddoe was used to riding in vehicles (where applicable) but he still had trouble with the mechanics. He had to wrangle his sword out of the way in order to slide in - at least the SUV was big enough for him. Of course, he didn't know about the prudence of seat belts...

"Ready," he said curtly, bracing himself.

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-21 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"No change," Geddoe reported over his shoulder. "How are you holding up?"

Protective magical barriers were rare but not unheard of; yet, Geddoe wondered if too much time would sap the man's energy and cause it to falter. Now was as good a time as any to find out.
cosmic_ring_hero: (Action!)

[personal profile] cosmic_ring_hero 2011-05-21 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Dammit," Freedom Ring cursed under his breath. A few arrows of all things bounced off his barrier and the man with the glowing eyes growled. "Got a headache the size of Manhattan and I feel like a light breeze will send me flying but there's no way in hell I'm letting these people get close to the Porter," he answered. If he hadn't gotten the rest he did last night, he probably wouldn't be standing. He's just going with what he has left for what he hopes is the last day of the chaos.

"You still in one piece?"
trueltning_fury: (desperation)

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"More or less." Apart from a few scratches, Geddoe hadn't sustained any injuries. He was fatigued as well, but not about to show it either. "Hold out as long as you can. We still have the advantage."

He glanced over his shoulder and sized the other man up. "If only we had a few more like you. This shield is more effective than a hundred armed soldiers." He paced along the edge and gauged the size of the mob. "Even if I were to clear out some with a rune, more would just fill the space. But..." He glanced back again. "If you feel yourself about to fail, warn me."

Also giving the officers a wide berth was Sanji. He was on cloud nine anyway, his arms around no less than three of the girls who'd fought for him - the rest were clustered around him. They were headed off the battlefield to...unwind. "No, no, of course I wouldn't. I promise! As long as you ladies don't disappear on me in the meantime. I'd love to get to know you better! Ahahaha...sure, let's do that. Come on..."

[personal profile] cosmic_ring_hero 2011-05-21 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Got it. Not giving in," Freedom Ring replied quickly. He was scared but doing his best not to let it show. It would be obvious if someone looked in his eyes though. He was positive that if the Crabhammers got to the Porter and sent everyone home, he'd die. And that would explain why he was so dead set on protecting the machine.

"Sorry, I'm one of a kind," he forced a laugh. "Only one Cosmic Ring ever made," he added. He'd used the fact that the Porter internalized his powers against the enemy before, tricking them into getting close enough to attack by taking off the no-longer functional ring yesterday. "Don't worry, I will. If you need a rest, say the word and I'll make ya a door to get back here."
out_of_time: Jakc in a suit, looking serious (Well shit)

Geddoe was right to brace himself, because Jack drove like a maniac. Tires screeched as he shot down streets and tore around corners on his way to the roadblock. He sensed that he didn't have a second to spare, and he was right.

The roadblock had consisted of three patrol cars parked end-to-end with the appropriate orange barricades and flashing lights. Now, it was on fire. Someone must have tossed a couple Molotov Cocktails into the cars, because they were well and truly ablaze, and their radios with them. At least all the officers seemed to be intact, taking cover behind the flaming wrecks with their guns drawn. Smoke rose high into the air above them, and was being blown back in their faces.

Jack's car pulled up behind the line and he got out. "Who's in charge here?"

"I am, sir!" A female officer raised her hand. Her face was dark with ash. "Captain, we've been attacked by people I think are former Cameron Hodge supporters. We caught the ones who torched our cars and sent them off to the precinct, but now there's at least two assholes with rifles out there shooting at us. We're pinned." A gunshot ricocheted off Jack's SUV, as though for illustration, the report echoing between buildings.

Jack ducked and frowned. There was a solid wall of smoke between the cops and the shooter, so how...

"They've got a spotter," he said. "Someone on this side of the line, relaying information to them."

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-21 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't worry about me." Geddoe still had his back turned, but he smirked grimly. "I'm an old campaigner. I'll be fine."

As if to prove it, he edged off to the right, having spotted a disturbance and moving to intercept it. Several bigger men were having an argument with what looked like a civilian - what one was doing there in the middle of this fracas, the captain couldn't fathom, but they were definitely at odds. He strode right up and threw a strong left hook into the face of the most vocal man. The momentum sent several of those immediately around them shrinking back, startled. "Clear off!" he snarled at the lot of them.
trueltning_fury: (suspicious)

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-21 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
The ride didn't completely make Geddoe as sick as he had been in the airplane, but by all the gods in all the worlds he needed a few moments to collect himself after fumbling out of the passenger side. At least the reek of burning vehicles and the crack of gunshots sobered him up right quick.

He heard Jack's assessment and immediately turned, his good eye hunting through the scores of faces illuminated by fire-light for someone who didn't look like they belonged. He knew this tactic, even if he was used to it being used by archers rather than riflemen. It had to be someone close, but with a good view of everything behind the barricade...

[personal profile] cosmic_ring_hero 2011-05-21 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't break a hip then," Freedom Ring teased. He frowned when he noticed Geddoe going off to the right, not moving from his spot.

"You heard the man! Clear on out!" came a woman's voice shortly after Geddoe's snarl. A few of the Crabhammers were scattered as four people walked forward. The first thing one might notice about them was that all four of them were blond. Three busty women and one big jock-type guy, all with black t-shirts on. Each of them was also wearing the same blue ring emblem as Freedom Ring. One of the girls was even painted as pink as the hero maintaining the barrier. "Hey, eyepatch guy! We're here to help!" one of the women chimed in an overly perky voice.
trueltning_fury: (wtf)

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2011-05-21 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Geddoe blinked at them, and then looked over at the man maintaining the barrier. "Friends of yours?"

Someone in the crowd dared to jeer at the newcomers, for which he received the tip of Wild Geese just under his nose. "I promise you, this isn't for show," he warned in a low tone. "Unlike yours." He nodded toward the guy just next to him holding a cardboard sword; nonplussed, the younger guy threw down his prop and backed away sheepishly until the crowd swallowed him up. Without taking his eye off the mouthy one (or his sword for that matter) Geddoe tipped his head in acknowledgement of the quad in black shirts. "Step over here, then. Watch yourselves."
