Sirius keeps the rope flowing, so that Mike doesn't get tugged around. As soon as it's secured to the chimney, Sirius attaches his end to the broom and slides off down the rope.

Just as he'd hoped, as soon as he wasn't actually on it, the broom stopped flailing about. Sirius had, however, forgotten what happens to somebody's hands when they slide down a rope, even a magical one like this.

"Ow. Ow. Ow ow ow ow ow OW OW OW OW OW OW!!!"

He lets go as soon as possible, falling a few feet onto the rooftop, and clutching his hands to his chest. SMOOTH GOING, SIRIUS.
