say that you're grateful for the time alone, two years away and i don't miss home;

WHO: [livejournal.com profile] xuffasch & YOU;
WHERE: Various places throughout the city;
WHEN: All day Friday;
WARNINGS: n/a
SUMMARY: A day in the life of Damian Wayne, with interruptions from YOU.
FORMAT: Reply as you like and I will follow; specify time, too!

↬ MID-MORNING;

If you were to ask Damian about things he never did, one of the first he’d list would be sulking. However, Damian is a terrible liar, because sulking is exactly what he’d been doing for the past few days, though he would never admit it. Watching events unfolding and having no control over them is enough to chafe his already irritable nature, but the fact that Grayson isn’t around is what makes it all the worse. Robin is a formidable force, but without Batman he can be a purposeless one.

Which is why he found himself where he was now, lying on his back on the rooftop of the apartment building he and Grayson had been living in for the past few months. The kitten he’d adopted is there, as well, laying across his stomach as he stares up at the sky. Damian’s legs are hanging out over the edge of the building, and though his body is relaxed his expression is fierce and he is hardly off-guard.

Occasionally he’ll shift his position or mutter something under his breath, but for the most part he just lays there, impassive. Unless, of course, someone sees fit to interrupt.

↬ AFTERNOON;

For someone who prides himself on his ability to adapt, Damian tends to be very habitual. Even after arriving in the City, it had taken him no more than a few weeks to set up a few haunts, and one of those was the corner bakery. Famous for their frivolously-decorated cupcakes, the bakers now know Damian by face, and his order of tall black coffee which he paired with different sweets—they swear he was steadily eating his way through the entire menu.

Today, he sits at his usual corner table. There is a single cupcake wrapper left empty one on side, surrounded by five empty cups that once held coffee. Sprawled across the table are various papers—maps, handwritten notes, print-outs and blueprints. Curious about Damian’s scrawl is its mirrored quality, nearly impossible to read without first reflecting it. Also curious is the different scripts and languages he uses. Every so often, he lifts his pen to his mouth and knocks it thoughtfully against his chin. His expression is one of utmost concentration, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t watching everyone else in the place, coming and going.

↬ MIDNIGHT;

Robin sits on the edge of a building—or perhaps “crouches” is more the right term for it. In any case, he surveys the city with a mixed expression of distaste and resignation, until he catches something out of the corner of his eye. It’s at this point that he swoops down into an alleyway, breaking up a robbery before it can occur. He knocks one man over as he touches down, shoving his elbow up under another’s chin. If he’s even more violent than normal, the people he’s attacking certainly aren’t in a position to complain. But someone else might be.

Afternoon!

The relative quiet of the bakery was suddenly broken by the loud roar of an engine. A motorcycle (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y142/SpinelSoup/RP%20other/015-1.jpg) came screeching from across the street and slid right into a parking space in front of the building, causing pedestrians to gape in horror and wonder where the police were when they needed them. The rider, dressed in all black and a helmet that concealed her face, just casually got off and walked past them. Truly, this person must be a psychopath of the highest order. And then she took her helmet off, revealing Cass.

She entered the restaurant and ordered a simple cup of tea (assam, of course) and a muffin. Holding her helmet under her arm, she glanced around the shop before spotting Damian in the corner. He looked like he could use some company--though not necessarily that he wanted it--so she walked over, food in hand, and sat down across from him with a small, silent smile.

It was the Bruce in him that made him think that way, probably. He sort of reminded her of his father, sitting there with all kinds of plans sprawled out around him. Of course, Bruce would never do so in a bakery unless doing so furthered his plans somehow, so Damian had him beaten in that respect at least.

"Eating," she replied simply, placing her helmet in an empty seat and taking off her jacket. She could see the wariness in his body language as plain as day, so she tried to seem as nonthreatening as possible. She wasn't about to kidnap him this time, and she did feel a little bad about that, all things considered.

"You?"

It was the truth, whether he thought she was being patronizing or not. She'd visited a similar shop in Bludhaven, and was trying to build up similar relationships with the locals in the City.

The maps and blueprints she could mostly understand, but didn't even attempt to decipher his notes or recognize their unique qualities. She took a sip from her tea and nodded slightly. "Mm. On what?"

"Looks... complicated," she said as she took a bite of her muffin and peered over the documents. She would offer her help, but she knows Damian at least well enough to know that he'd probably soundly reject that offer if she was so forward about it. She'd see if he'd do the talking instead.

She leaned forward, squinting at the blueprints. She wasn't an expert, but she could definitely tell what that was. "New Batmobile?" she whispered. "...Cool." It kind of made her new ride seem a little ordinary in comparison.

"You made?" If he actually made Batmobiles, that was impressive. She couldn't even drive one, much less design and build one.

aaahhhh sorry this is so late

She nodded, clearly impressed. He was definitely his father's son. "You're... good at this. Like him." And not like her. Her mother had been right when she'd pointed out that Cass hadn't designed any of the tools she used.

She could practically see his ego inflating in front of her, despite his attempt to hide it. "Me, too," she admitted. If she really wanted to be like Batman one day, she'd probably have to learn, but it'd be later rather than sooner.
