A Chance Meeting

WHO: Julian Keller and Maxine Gibson
WHERE: Around the City
WHEN: Backdated to shortly before Valentine's Day
SUMMARY: Julian and Max run into each other while hunting for the City's latest alien insurgents
WARNINGS: Probably none but I'll update this if need be
FORMAT: However you like

First broken communicators, then cryptic warnings from Lachesis, and now everyone was on high alert because there were Skrulls around. Not to mention that Valentine’s Day was coming up, and regular holiday periods seemed to be the most dangerous times of all in the City. This place was never exactly what might be considered safe, but things definitely had a heightened level of tension at the minute.

Skrulls had that effect. Because they could be anyone, and there was never any way to know how many of them there were or how far they’d managed to infiltrate. No one could be trusted. Even when it seemed like they could.

All of that meant that Julian was spending more time out on the streets these days. He’d barely been hitting them in recent weeks, after he’d been hurt on New Year’s. Much as he’d had worse than that in the past, he hadn’t exactly been throwing himself into fights all over the place. But things had changed now. His injuries were pretty much all healed, and although the arm he’d fractured was still stiff it wasn’t enough to impede him. Besides, staying inside and wondering when an attack might come wasn’t his favorite activity.

He spent some time at street level, moving between people and keeping an eye out for anything that was suspicious. But that went to nowhere, because this was New York and there was always suspicious crap going on. He’d already stopped a mugger, and disarmed some wannabe gang member who’d been flashing a knife around like it was clever. The knife was in his inner pocket now, destined to remain unused since he didn’t need weapons. After that, he’d turned into an alley and lifted himself up to rooftop level. Petty crime was what New York was all about. None of that was evidence of Skrulls, or anything bigger than the City’s standard brand of assholing. He sat on the edge of the building he’d scaled, looking down and wondering what to try next. No matter what he did, this was probably a losing mission. He could search until the sun came up and he’d still never find any of them. And that wasn’t even taking into account the dozens of other ImPorts who were bound to be doing the same. For now he stayed where he was, wondering if he should keep this up or just head back to the MAC.
