Leo's adopted project had become Soldier Blue's own, and, through repetition and practice, more of a passion than ever anticipated. Being able to maintain, groom, and grow a life form, coax it to its fullest potential, guard it from hazards...wasn't that what he was all about anyway? Instead of his precious Mu, though, it was vegetables and small flowers. It would hardly fill the void his own groomed nature craved, but it felt right for him to continue. Leo could return, perhaps. Baroona, too. And the others...

Truthfully, it made him just as lonely as it did content. It wasn't a pleasant thing, being born to feel such deep connections with others, having them taken away by some unseen, unpredictable force. Unpleasant, but so terribly common. He was not alone in his losses.

Nor was he alone in his gains. There was so much his foster home could give that his own never did...perhaps never would. It was something he'd never know first-hand — something he could only be given faint glimpses of hope. Fragments of insight from the very man who slaughtered his own kind, no less...

Life was strange.

Blue wound up much more introspective out in that public place than he ever expected, quietly wandering the walkways of gardens tended with much more expertise and artistry than his own. He'd only recently discovered the gardens, which made each visit just as fresh as the one before, and he was liable to get lost in the winding paths and his own winding thoughts. It kept the busy, hassled minds of the City just outside at bay for a time.

It would not fix everything, but it was pleasant.
