i'm gonna be impossible

WHO: Nepeta & Karkat
WHERE: idk somewhere public in the City
WHEN: Now I guess.
WARNINGS: Dumb kids being sad and dumb. Also Nepeta finally getting angry.
SUMMARY: Two emotionally conflicted trolls accidentally cross paths, and unfortunately for Karkat Nepeta has had enough of pretending problems don't exist.
FORMAT: Prose to start but I'm cool with w/e you want going onwards.

Nepeta wanders through the City pointlessly more often than she'd admit - she enjoys just soaking in the atmosphere of thousands of people flowing around her, each wrapped up in their own worries and wishes like a protective bubble. She loves people, and she loves the bright lights and loud noises of the City in the night even more. It's one of the few times that Nepeta can forget that she's surrounded by unforgiving dead concrete and truly enjoy the urban landscape.

Of course, something has to ruin that as well.

The crowds flowing down the sidewalk are large and unwieldy, so Nepeta almost fools herself into believing that her mind is playing tricks on her at first glance. But a quick spin on tippy-toed heels confirms what her heart had feared: tonight the late wanderers most definitely included one Karkat Vantas, impossible to mistake for anyone else with those nubby horns of his. She withdraws at first, instinctively, wishing to continue the path of avoidance that she'd set out down ever since the last time they spoke. It's been painful, but what other option does she have? She still has no real answer for him.

Perhaps it's the boundless energy of the strangers around her or simply months of pretending her friend didn't exist while following his network posts like a lovesick kitten coming to a boiling point, but something in Nepeta snaps in time with her first and only step back. She is sick of hiding, has been sick of pretending there was nothing wrong from the beginning, is finally sick of holding back from confrontation because she still has no answer. This is Karkat's problem too, and he's damn well going to contribute to fixing it.

Tiny hands clenching beneath the voluminous sleeves of her trenchcoat, Nepeta stalks forward through the crowd toward Karkat. Her steps are deliberate and the way her face is set makes it very obvious that she doesn't care if he can see her coming - she's going to be speaking with him whether he wants it or not.
