[ HJ froze, looking the boy over. His shoulders caught in that way that meant he was somewhere in between angry and terrified, but HJ didn't let terror show for him. If anything, he just got more and more angry, that usual presence seeming larger and larger, as if he could puff himself up enough to make this all go away.
And if not, then at least nobody would notice how bad it was for him. This wasn't the sort of thing that Justice knew how to handle, or what to think about it. Maybe it was hell -- it would be fitting that he were here, he knew -- perhaps this entire experience in the City was hell. All of it from when he first arrived, it's just been getting worse.
And he let himself get comfortable enough that now it was stinging to find it all upended. He'd slacked off, let himself get complacent.
Which brought him to Gilbert. Not necessarily a thorn in his side entirely, but there was no love lost between them.
He was tempted not to answer, but the hand on the weapon said a lot there. He could have just thrown caution to the wind, and left anyway, but he wasn't suicidal. He didn't need to tempt fate that much. ]
