The vendor smiled knowingly at him. Mary was an eager girl, and her sunny personality always seemed to take over, but the poor boy was looking a bit overwhelmed. Rather than hand the boy the bright pink flavor (bubblegum tended to only be popular with the smaller children), he scooped out a green one.

"Here, you try mint and chocolate instead. You like it more, yes?"

Beside Baroona, Mary beamed. He was still so skittish! She hoped he'd put that goddess silliness behind him already, but apparently not. "I guess no one speaks Spanish where you're from, Baroona?" she asked.
