You're just like your dad
WHO: Kirei Kotomine and Rin Tohsaka
WHERE: A restaurant which is hopefully up to the high standards of the Tohsaka family head (spoilers: it won't be).
WHEN: Backdate to evening-time
WARNINGS: glances at characters....
SUMMARY: A wild Emiya appears! What will Kirei do? Following this discussion.
FORMAT: I was going for quick and then I tl;dr-ed. Such is the fate of playing Kirei Kotomine.
[ He had picked Rin up without too much grandeur (and luckily without an appearance of the man who shared her living space). Given his shelter in the Church, he was left with a fair bit of extra money, which was enough to afford the expenses of appealing to the finer taste of a Tohsaka.
Tohsaka -- he was used to dealing with that name, handling the daughter as easily as her father, but now there was also Emiya.
He did not think he would ever see that name again.
The boy could not be Kiritsugu's flesh and blood. He did not look the part and the age was wrong; if Kiritsugu had fathered a child in that time, Kirei would have known it. He studied the man... excessively. The years could not match; the boy must have been adopted. Where had he found him?
Surely in the ruin of Fuyuki City -- the ruin of his dream.
For all his insistence on speaking with Rin, he was eerily silent now. Kirei hadn't eaten much of his dinner either; it had no appeal to him. The food could have been the best he was ever served, but it still would have tasted bland. His mind was elsewhere and occupied. He rested one elbow on the table, his chin cupped in his palm as he watched Rin. Every so often his index finger extended, reaching to touch one of the gold crosses hanging from his ear absent-mindedly.
He had dressed nicely for Rin, for mixed reasons. He stood out too much in his vestments; a priest drew too much attention, especially in the company of a young woman. He preferred to avoid such a fuss. In a more lenient circumstance, he would have taken amusement in wondering what passing patrons thought of them as a pair, and whether or not the idea made Rin uncomfortable.
However, his thoughts were otherwise consumed:
Shirou Emiya. Son of Kiritsugu Emiya. He lifted his head to look across the table at his current company: Rin Tohsaka. Daughter of Tokiomi Tohsaka. The two knew each other; they were friendly (as much as Rin could be). Combined, how much hate could these children have for him, after what he did to their fathers?
How much did she tell Kiritsugu's son? How much would she tell Kirei now?
At last, neutrally: ]

How is your dinner?
no subject
[ His tone is firm, not chastising but serious.
The chances of two survivors of the Holy Grail War was shocking enough -- but three? And which one of them would have done it? ]
Did you bury me?
no subject
Mm, that's a depressing topic. [ Without realizing that she's given the answer away with that, she prods at her food some more. ] Why do you want to know if you're dead or alive? What purpose does it even serve to know?
no subject
No purpose, I suppose.
[ That's the point, isn't it? What purpose does he seek now? No Grail. No life. ]
I'll ask them to box your dinner.
no subject
[ Hmph. ] I watched you die right before my eyes. Is that what you wanted to hear?
no subject
What did he want to hear? He died in front of Rin, but was she the one to do it? ]
How?
no subject
[ Anger makes itself visible on her face as she looks away from Kirei herself with a scowl. ]
You were stabbed from behind. [ She doesn't mention who was the one to deal the blow however. ]
no subject
Stabbed in the back--
"I never bought the ticket."
Kirei's hands clench and his mind works. Rin says he was killed in front of her, not by her, so it could not be retribution. Then... ]
Who?
no subject
[ Only the briefest of pauses, then: ] Geez, who else would kill you during that sort of thing?
no subject
[ His voice is not raised or angered; just firm. ]
Will you not tell me?
no subject
One she's not even aware she's making. Recent perhaps? ]
Y-Your Servant. It was your Servant. You ordered him to kill himself and when you thought he was dead, he came back up to get you as well.
no subject
His Servant. But why? Why would he order Gilgamesh's suicide? That is not an answer Rin can provide him with.
Of course, it would be like the King of Heroes to take Kirei down with him after such an order. ]
I apologize. [ his tone seems flat again, distant, and his stare lowers to his mostly untouched plate. ] I will choose a better restaurant next time.
no subject
[ So it was alright to let one slip out every now and again. Telling Kirei of his death was a lot better than telling Archer she knew who he was or to tell Shirou that the two of them were intimate at some point.
At least Kirei can take it.
That's what she thought, but guilt sets in whenever he starts talking to her with that tone once more. ]
It was alright. I just didn't have as much of an appetite as I thought I would and then I had to go ruin yours as well. [ Rare form for her to be sympathetic, so soak it in. ]
no subject
He will not ask more now; he is not certain he will trust his reaction if he does.
Kirei rises from his seat, stepping around the table to Rin's side. ]
I can escort you to your apartment. [ 'Home' is not the term he'll use. ]
no subject
Yeah, it still gets dark here quickly. It must be the area or something.
[ She doubts Archer will be there waiting for her when she does make her return after their 'disagreement' in the earlier part of the day so there's no harm in Kirei coming with her. If he wants to be invited inside, she could tend to him like a proper host would and everything. ]
I can take care of myself though so if you have somewhere else to be, I'm used to walking alone.
no subject
[ He extends his hand to her. While he will take her home, he will not follow her inside. He would have left her own her own entirely as she offers, but he knows the suggestion is only half genuine. If he chooses to leave her, it will spark her concern, and she will want to stay with him.
He is best left alone. ]
no subject
You're more proper like this. I must have not noticed when I was younger--[ BECAUSE SHE WAS AN INSUFFERABLE BRAT. ]--but it isn't all that bad.
no subject
He turns, leaving money on the table before stepping away with her -- arm in arm. ]
