A boy and his dog.

WHO: Damian Wayne & open!
WHERE: A park.
WHEN: Sometime in the afternoon.
WARNINGS: None.
SUMMARY: how do I pets
FORMAT: Quick!

[Damian hadn't expected to inherit anything when he arrived here, let alone a bunch of animals. He wouldn't admit it, but he didn't mind them, even if he wasn't quite used to having them around yet. A part of him had been stubborn about accepting them at first, given they were a product of this world and someone else's life, but enough time spent around them had helped to change his mind. At least he was addressing them by name now.

But he's still stuck doing things like taking care of and playing with said animals, and that would be fine except it's so weirdly domestic and he isn't used to that part. That's why even now, it still feels strange to be walking a dog, and why sometimes, it sorta seems like the dog is walking him and not the other way around.

It's really embarrassing, tbh.

When he's not being dragged along, Damian sits on one of the park benches and tosses a ball to the dog now and then. The dog seems to be enjoying himself, running around and bringing the ball right back, but Damian doesn't share the enthusiasm. He looks bored. Maybe a little exasperated.

Where is Pennyworth when you need him?]

[ as kanaya passes through the park, she can't help but take note of the dogs around. she notices dogs now, she thinks she may like dogs. she certainly notices the one damian is leading, but at that size it would be hard not to, and there's something familiar about the boy he's attached to.

maybe she's spoken to him before. the possibility is enough to get her to engage.
]

Generally, I think it's the one wearing the collar that's meant to be led.

[ well, someone's decided to be testy today! not that she hasn't done anything to help it along, of course. ]

If forcing him to behave isn't doing the trick, have you considered trying to coax him into it?

What he is, is a darling. [ she brings her hand in slowly to rub behind his ears, but the dog keeps trying to get out of it to lick her hand. she isn't sure she wants that, the slobber seems a bit gross. ]

I take it you're not yet used to him?

It's a problem I think that's very specific to new arrivals, especially those who've had an iteration precede them. But there's little way to expect it, or anticipate its possibility. More a pattern you come to recognize when you've been here a while.

Oh, don't be mistaken, it's not of use to you now, but give it time. It'll be your turn before long. [ after all, someone took care of his dog while he was away. who knows whether he'll end up with one of his own on his hands? ]

But that's the sort of thinking most likely to get anything done. When you can't provide desire, necessity is always willing to provide its support.

[ her lip quirks downward at that. of all the things she's been accused of, optimism doesn't tend to be one of them. ]

You'd be surprised how much it isn't. Pragmatism doesn't tend to get along well with optimism, not after having to clean up after all of its messes. I was being facetious, necessity's only support is in its demands, but I wasn't lying about it picking up the slack that desire leaves.

It's only more trouble than it's worth because you think you're wort more than the trouble. [ which is a remarkably telling statement, all things considered. ] Is that what you're doing now, looking as ill-suited to the task as possible in hopes that someone will see fit to relieve you of the burden?
