Emma was thrilled to get away from the Institute for a night with just Scott, things were far too tense around the Institute lately and telepaths could never quite get away from the emotions surrounding them. She'd put on a simple white dress, it was cut low in the front in a style typical for her. The restaurant he'd picked was a surprisingly nice choice and at least Scott had put a suit on.

"I'm sure those versions of us are exceptionally happy together then, darling," she said, wondering how exactly they'd ended up on this topic of conversation. At least it wasn't a conversation about the X-Men or the Institute. "Is that the same time line where we have children?"

"One of them," he said with a smile as the maitre d' lead them to their table. Emma looked stunning tonight, even more so than usual, and not for the first time Scott reflected on how lucky he was. Emma was a fit for him that on multiple levels and he was glad that she had seen something in him that had made her think a relationship with him would be worthwhile. He wasn't always sure what, but Scott was glad she saw it.

"The one with Megan, Alex Jr., and the twins."

"I can't believe I'm a mother in multiple universes," she said, chuckling a bit. It was hard enough to believe she actually got married in some future, it was even harder to believe that she got married to Scott Summer's in some future. Emma wondered if she'd ever figure out how such an ordinarily extraordinary man fell in love with her.

She allowed the maitre d' to pull out her chair for her and sat down, taking the menu he handed her.

"Four. Astonishing to think I'd have even one child. There are so many wonderful things I could do with information like that."

"Why can't you believe that?" Scott asked, sitting down across from her and glancing at the menu as well. It was weird not seeing the prices on the menu but Emma had a thing about how things were better if they didn't have a price on them. Obviously if you came here you could afford the filet mignon no matter what it cost.

"You're very good with kids."

"It's not quite a matter of believing it, but rather that I find it odd to think of. I've never seen myself as the marriage and family type," she said, shaking her head. Not seeing prices on the menu didn't bother Emma at all, in fact she much preferred it that way, it often meant that the food was of a higher quality. Emma had a feeling Scott wouldn't really notice though, she wondered if he'd be just as happy eating at McDonald's.

"Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would disagree with that statement, darling," Emma said, giving him a small smile. "I wonder if our children behave better than some of your other children seem to."

"Emma," Scott said, a bit of edge to his voice. Not that his tone would really have any affect on her, but it was enough to let her know he didn't like her talking like that. Not that it would make her stop talking like that.

"Yes?" Emma asked, she over-exaggerated the innocence in her tone. "I'm simply stating a fact, darling." She was silent for a moment as she debated saying something about the one child of theirs that Scott had met here. There was a part of her that was tempted to ask how Rachel had reacted, but she knew if her other dramatics were any indication, it was probably an appallingly selfish reaction. She decided against bringing that up and smiled to herself.

"Perhaps you'd like to order us something to drink?"

"That's a good idea," Scott said, deciding to let the topic be if she was going to. It would probably come up later but for now, he was happy to just ignore it. That was something he was good at, which worked well because Emma was good at bugging him about the things he'd rather ignore.

He ordered a wine from a passing waiter before turning back to Emma.

"This is nice, getting away from it all," he confessed. "Getting away from it with you."

"My ideas are always good, darling," Emma said. She had no intention of continuing that particular topic at this time, perhaps they'd talk about it at a later date, but right now she didn't feel like arguing with Scott. It seemed like discussions regarding his children always turned into an argument of some sort.

"It's a lot more peaceful than the Institute is lately," she said, smiling. "The company isn't bad either."

"The company is everything," he told her, smiling back at her. This sort of thing wasn't what he liked to do for fun, it was more Emma's thing, but seeing her in one of her elements made him enjoy it.

"When we have some more time, over the summer, we should get away," he told her. He had done that last time she was here, but he wasn't amiss to doing it again.

"I can't argue there," she said. The waiter returned with a bottle of wine and poured a sample glass, she took a sip and nodded to him. "It's fine," she said, waving for him to pour the actual glasses.

"Do you really think we'll have free time like that? It seems like this entire city is falling apart," Emma said, sighing. "But I'd enjoy getting away from it all. It's exceptionally disappointing that there's no Savage Land here."

"Hopefully the majority of this will be all over soon," he said, although he wasn't sure if he believed that. He had no idea what was going on, no one did, really, but he just wanted it over. He wanted it over because the people here didn't deserve this.

"And I'm sure we can find some other place that's clothing optional."

"Hoping for things like that has never done us any good," she responded, shaking her head. She wanted it to be over too but Emma was cynical enough to believe that this was only the beginning.

"Europe has some lovely beaches that are clothing optional."

"There's nothing wrong with hoping for the best while preparing for the worst," Scott said. That was not a point he would back down on. Scott didn't he could do what he did without hope for a brighter future.

"Yes, but I don't want other people to see you without clothing, just me."

"That's what I love about you dear, you're always optimistic and yet you still manage to be practical," Emma said, chuckling. Scott was admirable that way, he seemed to at least try to be optimistic and yet he never let it overwhelm his ability to plan for reality.

"Plenty of others have."

"It's one of my talents," Scott admitted. Perhaps one of the few that he would admit to having, although Emma was helping him accept that he did have others. He glanced up at her over the menu for a moment and wondered just where he'd be without her.

"And thank you for reminding me of that, dear. But they haven't seen you like that while you're with me and I feel a bit possessive about that."

"One of many," she said, smiling. Scott rarely admitted things like, he seemed far too focused on his flaws most of the time.

"Are you sure about that? I did spend a large amount of time alone with Namor while I was working Norman," Emma said, as she read over the menu. She'd specifically worded that working Norman rather than working with Norman, because saying she'd been working with him was just dishonest.

"You are many things, Emma," Scott said, not looking over his menu this time while he spoke. "Beautiful, brilliant, cunning, courageous, caring, determined, amusing, witty, calculating, and when necessary, ruthless. But one thing you are not is unfaithful."

"Such flattery, darling, I'm touched that you know me so well," Emma said, putting her menu down. Emma wasn't positive about how accurate that statement was, she didn't think she would ever be unfaithful to Scott. She loved him far too much for that, but still Emma was a goal oriented woman. There were moments where she wondered, if it meant accomplishing a goal would she do something like that? She sighed.

"Let's hope we never have to test that theory."

Scott could sense Emma's hesitation, both in her voice and mentally as well. He knew that Emma didn't think she would be unfaithful because she cared about or loved someone more, but because she wasn't the type of woman to deal with absolutes like that. Scott could be enough of a hopeless romantic for both of them. Putting down his menu, he reached across the table and took her hand.

"We won't," he said.

"Of course not, darling," Emma said, patting his hand. In some ways Scott was refreshing like that, he was always the hopeless romantic while she was ever the cynic.

"I suppose if anyone should be worried, I should," she said, taking a sip of her wine.

Scott mentally flinched at that, although he supposed given his past relationships that he deserved it. He left Maddie for Jean, he left Jean for Emma. It was something of a cycle. But he was different now. He and Emma were different.

"But no one should be worried," he said.

"Lucky for you I'm not the type to worry about something like that. If you were moronic enough to unfaithful with me, then that would be your loss," Emma said, with a small smirk. "I suppose I have an advantage over the others, I'd certainly know the moment it happened."

It was the truth, Emma had always used her telepathic abilities for her personal gains, she had very few qualms about simply taking a peak inside a person's mind.

"And I don't think anyone is that moronic," he told her with a matching smile. He didn't mind that she was so in sync with him telepathically, in fact he liked that. Even with Jean, he hadn't been this open. With Emma, he could give someone to everything and not have a fear of being judged.

"People always manage to surprise me with just how stupid they can be," Emma said, shaking her head. As a telepath Emma truly knew how dumb people could be. It seemed like every person held the belief that they would be the person that wouldn't get caught. They always got caught though, always.

"Teaching always leaves me amazed with how often students attempt to get away with things, you'd think they wouldn't dare try with a telepath for a teacher," Emma said.
