C&C HOLIDAY JAMJAR ICE HOTEL HELL: PARTY

WHO: AHAHAHAHA. Just... just tag yourselves in.
WHERE: The Gorsewick Hotel
WHEN: December 19th. 5PM-7PM for setup, 7PM onward for dinner.
WARNINGS: Let's just cover for your basics unless something more specific comes up.
SUMMARY: Miles Edgeworth and Remus Lupin are hosting the second comm-wide holiday party and have rented out the dining hall in the Gorsewick for the night. Everyone comes in for food, warmth, and (relatively... hopefully...) civil company. Whether or not they can leave is another story.
FORMAT: IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT! Long prose, action brackets, rapidfire dialogue, present tense, past tense--whatever floats your narrative boat!

The Gorsewick is not all that large a hotel, although it would very much like to grow up to be one someday, a mere five stories tall and having only a small parking garage to its name. The owner is clearly an optimistic sort of fellow, building a place like this in the City despite the risk the existence of imPorts poses to it and the hits the tourism industry has taken from their antics; bigger places than this have been smashed to pieces by enormous grey lizards with bad cases of heartburn.

Sadly, it just isn't paying off. At a time when people should be on vacation, packing his rooms to the max, the Gorsewick is... really, really empty. The groups renting out the dining hall are pretty much the only things keeping it afloat this month.

Still, appearances must be upheld, and although it is mildly understaffed, it is currently no less well-cared for. The handful of people on duty that night are friendly and the place is clean as a whistle--no bugs, no rats, no dust, nothing like that. He may be running a sinking ship, but the owner is damned determined to keep it a tidy one on the way down.

Come on in.

Haruka has premonition vibes about these sorts of things. She hadn't sensed anything bad for most of the evening, but that nagging feeling in the back of her head was hard to ignore as the night grew longer. But she didn't want to mention it to anyone else just yet, in case she was wrong. She was still trying to figure out her City powers, after all.

But by the time she's crossed the lobby, finding her coat and taking it off the hangar, the brightness from outside definitely has her wary.

Especially when she tries to open the door -- Haruka immediately gets danger signs going off in her head not to try prying it open. Not unless she wanted the lobby to flood with huge packs of snow.

"Um... everyone...?" Haruka calls, though not very loudly. Maybe it was just a prank someone had done on the hotel, covering the door with snow like that. She didn't remember anything about a blizzard today...

"Hm."

Beatrice has been standing behind Haruka the entire time, looking perplexed. Not good in that now she's now stuck in the same place, but...she could still have her cake and eat it since everyone else is stuck as well.

Of course, she's not going to make her planned shenanigans known to Haruka at this very moment. "Well, it has been frightfully cold out as of recent; move aside. Just for precautionary measures---it is still snowing out---I'm going to seal the door shut until it stops, just to avoid an avalanche."

And with that, Beatrice snaps her fingers---which are glowing---and thick chains made of light quickly wrap themselves around the door.

She may have other purposes in mind for doing so besides preventing everyone from being buried in snow.

Alastair came up in time to see that, his jacket already on. "Hey, what did you do that for...? Holy shit!" He could see the snow packed around the door, it was as if they had been buried in an avalanche. And that was cause for panic. "Wh-what the hell? What happened? Where did all that snow come from?! It wasn't snowing when we got here!"

He rounded on Beatrice as if to accuse her of doing it.

[identity profile] precog-princess.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Haruka tended to look more towards Alastair when people started approaching - it was at least someone she knew. Beatrice, on the other hand, she was a little wary about. Especially since she'd snuck on her unaware... Mamoru would have another fit. Haruka really needed to be more alert to her surroundings...

"Um," she tried speaking up, looking toward her floormate, "the snow was there before she came by. I don't know what caused it." She frowned somewhat, looking back outside - though the chains kind of hindered her view.

Something made her turn around, though, and she noticed Edgeworth hurriedly going off somewhere. Haruka's mouth twitched in response, her premonition abilities telling her to go after him - which she did. If he knew something, then maybe there was a way out.

Hard to miss, indeed.

Haruka narrowed her eyes a little, examining Edgeworth carefully. The nervousness was apparent, and, like Mamoru would, she needed to investigate. "Do you know what happened?" she asked slowly, watching his face for any signs of a clue.

Oblivious to all going on in the lobby, Bakura, ever the housewife helpful had been helping with clean up, bringing dishes in from the main table and setting them up in the dishwasher, carefully covering leftovers and just generally being useful.

He looked up at Edgeworth's busy entrance and gave a smile. "Don't worry, it's all covered!" he announced cheerfully, utterly mistaking why Edgeworth was there.

Bakura blinked a few times. He'd never seen Edgeworth looking so... well... ruffled.

"...something the matter?" he asked curiously.

Hank excused himself after dinner, as he had much to do the following day. As he tried to open the front door, he found it gave an astounding level of resistance! Not so much a problem for a man with super-strength, and he managed to convince it to open only to find...endless winter.

"Oh my stars and garters."

James felt better than he did when he decided to attend the party, but it was probably time for him to go home and check on Gerry. He wasn't far behind the large, furry blue man on the way out. When he pushed the door open and there was a rush of cold air, James took a couple steps to the side so he could get a good look and stared.

"Is that ice? How did that get there?"
professorlionface: (Excuse me?)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2010-12-21 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hank hadn't decided whether to go outside for a look or close the door, so he just stood there in the cold wind, uncertain of what to make of any of it.

"More than ice, it looks like a blizzard! But...is that something beyond it?"

He made up his mind, and shielding his eyes, he walked through the door.

[identity profile] carrytheshield.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that supposed to happen here? How are we going to get home?" James asked, continuing to ask questions. He hadn't seen so much ice or snow since the flight away from his home.

He moved closer to the door to try to look out and watch the furry man.
professorlionface: (grumpy-grump gettin' grumps)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2010-12-21 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know," Hank said, matter-of-factly as he ventured further into the snow. He made sure to shout, loud enough that the wind wouldn't carry it off, "Make sure the front desk clerk knows!"

He made it about twenty feet before he saw any kind of break in the white. At a certain point, it just stopped As he reached toward the boundary, he got a better idea, and ended up knocking on some kind of barrier. This would have to be tested.

[identity profile] carrytheshield.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Make sure who knows?" James shouted, worried. This was not good. He was worried about the guy going into that alone, but James wasn't dressed for that kind of weather.
professorlionface: (What was I thinking?)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2010-12-21 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hank looked back toward the door, but wasn't sure if it was still open or not. The wind was overwhelming his ears, though he almost thought he'd heard a faint voice. He shook off the notion and redirected his attention to the barrier.

[identity profile] carrytheshield.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Hello?" James shouted. He wasn't sure what to do. He partially closed the door and decided to wait next to it. He'd give the blue furry man some time to return.
professorlionface: (I'll have to think about this.)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2010-12-21 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hank wanted to know more about this barrier, but Hank supposed he should make sure the rest of the party were familiar with the situation, so he returned to the door.

Pushing it open, this time he had to do his best to keep the wind from taking it away. Pushing it closed again, he glanced back at James soberly. "We're trapped."

[identity profile] carrytheshield.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
That was not what he wanted to hear. "By the storm? It'll blow over after a while, won't it?" He reached back over his shoulder to touch the backpack on his back as he thought it over.

He wanted to get back to Gerry, but Gerry was safe with Tony. He could deal with being trapped for a night.
professorlionface: (Um.)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2010-12-21 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
He took off his glasses and wiped the condensation that had developed since he walked back in. "The storm is the least of our worries, I'm afraid. There's something else out there, something keeping the storm in here."

He tucked his glasses in a coat pocket before continuing. "I'm not sure of its exact nature just yet, but I intend to further analyze it. In the meantime, if you could inform the desk clerk, or the manager if he's on hand, of the situation, I'd appreciate it."

It had been 7:30 when she felt it. Ysera had been in the dining hall then, before dinner had officially started.

A flare of raw, foreign magic had washed over her, leaving an odd tugging sensation upon her essence for a moment. She had frowned, and turned slowly around, her head cocked slightly to the side as she tried to determine what had happened. It hadn't felt hostile or corruptive... But what was it? She faintly felt it settling, but she wasn't sure what shape the magic was taking, or why.

As she had started toward the doors to the dining hall to investigate, the doors opened and Edgeworth and Remus had entered and announced the dinner was beginning. Ysera had relaxed and tried to put it out of her mind. There was a lot of magic flowing through the dining hall and lobby as it was. She decided that surge had probably been something to do with the party.

She wouldn't know differently until after dinner; although curiosity over the magic would nag at her all throughout the evening. After dinner, she made her way out into the lobby, following her faint sense of the magic to investigate.

As she approached the main doors, still following the feel of the magic - which must be outside the building - she noticed the two males standing in front of the doors and looking very worried (both in and out of their imaginings). While unfamiliar with the species of the large blue-furred male, she wasn't phased by his appearance and approached with only slight hesitation over how worried they seemed.

"...Is something amiss, good sirs?" Hopefully they wouldn't be further distressed by the sight of a seemingly-blind, elven woman, with horns and green hair.

[identity profile] carrytheshield.livejournal.com 2010-12-23 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"How do you contain a storm?" James asked, and he was about to keep talking when he noticed someone else approaching. He stared for a moment, but after the guy with the screw through his head, not much else was distressing.

"We're trapped," James said.
professorlionface: (I'll explain this slowly.)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2010-12-24 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Whoops, missed this one. Sorry!]

Hank nodded to Ysera as she approached, then proceeded to answer James' question while appending his statement to her at the same time. "There is, beyond one of the worst blizzards I've seen, especially in a city like this, some kind of barrier containing the storm, the hotel, and us with it. I have yet to determine its exact nature and properties."
