Sometimes, I feel like going down I'm so disconnected

It wasn't even a week since he'd been incarcerated in his hospital. Norman was far more stable than he had been when he was arrested thanks to the medications he was inundated with -- pills he tried not to swallow, injections that he couldn't avoid. He was calmer thanks to sedation, but the other affects would take longer to kick in fully. His body rebelled, trying to fight them.

He scratched at his neck, chewed his nails, slept poorly. One of the worst things about being here was the inability to have private conversations; Norman was missing them already.

The other things he might miss weren't things he would ever consciously admit to himself.

"Who's 'we'? The fine people at work?" He smirked, folding his hands in his lap. "The doctors here are very competent. I hope my sentencing pays mind to my improvements, even in this short time."

Boyd returned the smirk. "Myself and others at Rossum. Though, I'm sure some of your employees are worried about you."

"Oh, I would hope they would think of me. No need to worry, of course--" He tapped his temple, "I'll be 'fit' in no time."

He smiled. "Is there anything in particular I can help you with?"

Boyd nodded and stretched his legs out, making himself comfortable. To anyone he'd just look like he was visiting a friend. "I just thought I'd visit and we could talk. Maybe chat about your experiences with some of our local heroes."

"Hm. Sure. I do have a great deal of it," Norman said with a smile. He held open his hands, thoughtfully. "Where to start, really. I could write a book on some of them -- Tony Stark, especially."

Boyd leaned forward, clearly showing his interest. Stark was someone on whom he had very little information. That aggravated him greatly. "I'd especially like to hear about Mr. Stark. He seems to be dominate for the moment, in the fields that I'd like to expand Rossum into."

"Is that so? Which fields, in particular?" Norman folded his hands together. "There is plenty I can tell you. What's the first thing you'd like to know?"

"Energy and robotics research. Never hurts to have diverse holdings." What he might use that research for was, of course, not something anyone outside of himself needed to know. "What are his personal capabilities, what is the man like? I know almost nothing about him."

"Stark thinks of himself as a genius. He's cocky. But don't underestimate him -- he's good with technology. Very good. Expect any comments you make to be visible to him. Privacy is a foreign concept. He's done far worse things to both this City and our home city than I have. He uses people."

Perhaps that was untrue, but Norman wasn't far from believing it. He knew what motivated him; Tony Stark's methods and logic always seemed clumsy and unnecessary.

"Not unusual behavior for a gifted person. How low has he sunk?" Boyd needed to know just how far Stark would go.

"He's mastered nanotechnology, particularly in the form of small bombs that he injects into the bloodstream. So that he can control. If he isn't obeyed, he detonates them."

Norman's jaw clenched, annoyed. "And he isn't above murder or treason, either."

"Really? And he's still considered a hero here? Interesting." Boyd would of course have to confirm all of this with another party, but if Stark did have nanotech than he would have to see about obtaining some of it. "Can you tell me who he used this technology on?"

"It is interesting. Quite a mystery, in fact. People so often blindly follow what they consider the 'good and right' without doing themselves the service of thinking for themselves. He's murdered here, and has yet to suffer an arrest."

He crosses his legs, getting comfortable. "Plenty of people back home. And if you dig far enough in the Network archives, I'm sure you may find telling indications he's used them here."

(OOC: The events Norman is referring to are here and here. The latter is rather ambiguous but probably a good starting point!)

Boyd nodded as Norman spoke. It was a situation he could relate to, especially in regards to a certain Doll. So stubborn, so sure she was right. "Some people set out on crusades without thinking of the consequences to the people around them. They're so determined to make everyone conform to their version of right and wrong that they don't care who they hurt. It's all justified to them in the end."

"It's true. But the irony is that they don't realize they are exactly like the people they claim to disapprove of."

Norman shrugged his shoulders, slowly. "It's a hypocritical world. It's only men like us who can see things from a clear perspective, I'm starting to think."

Boyd faked a smile. He was more than willing to let Norman think that they were alike and saw no reason to alter that any time soon. "I agree. It's amazing how much easier things can be when people are just honest with themselves and their motives. Much less messy than trying to hide behind self deceptions."

"Indeed. Try telling that to the majority," Norman said, inclining his head to the side.

"Was there anyone else you were curious about?"

"I've tried, and I know how stubborn they can be." Though, if things continued to go smoothly that would all change. "And there's no one else I'm interested in right now. Unless there's someone you think I should know more about?"

"Tony Stark is the big name around here. But I wouldn't advice looking into Mr. Edward Nygma, either. There's Mr. Winner of the Winner Corporation, which may be within your interests -- oh. And let's not forget Ms. Selina Kyle. She's tried to break into OsCorp in the past. I wouldn't doubt her capability to try again."

Norman refolded his hands in his lap.

"I'll be sure to look into Mr. Winner. I understand he's quite young. He must be a very sharp businessman to already be doing so well." Boyd paused and looked around, taking a moment to observe the other patients. "I do not have much information on Ms. Kyle. A industrial espionage specialist, or is she just a thief?"

"I haven't done business with him myself, but anyone in business at that age is going to be someone to be wary of, I'd wager," Norman said, keeping his eyes on Boyd even when the other man glanced away.

"She's many things. But above all at the end of the day, she is just a thief."

Boyd returned his attention to Norman. The information wasn't terribly detailed, but it was proving useful. Especially the knowledge that Mr. Stark had nano tech. "I'll be sure to take proper precautions then. Though, if she does make her living as a thief I'm sure I'll be able to pressure the police into investigating her."

"Oh, please do. She has friends on the force, which is perhaps why she has yet to be cuffed. Far be it from me to make accusations," Norman shrugged his shoulders, gesticulating his hand dismissively, "but it certainly casts unfortunate implications. She has quite a few friends, as a matter of fact."

Now Boyd was curious. If the police hadn't arrested this woman then maybe that was something he could take advantage of when he deployed Taffy. It was good to know that having friends in the right places still worked here. "Does she? I'm guessing these other friends have influence as well."

"Some of them. Tony Stark, for one; this so-called 'Justice League', for another. I don't know much about them, but she did advertise for them during an interview. We can guess to their influence simply by the name they're choosing to go by."

Again, Norman shrugged. This was all too easy. He didn't feel one ounce of guilt over giving out this sort of information: if someone else wanted to rake things up on the people who had caused them trouble, it saved Norman the trouble of figuring out when he'd be out of this place in order to do it himself.
