SUMMARY: Kara and Terry were gonna try again after their failed notadate. But then he got exPorted and never called, so she stops by. SHIT HAPPENS.
FORMAT: Quick to start, can do whatever after.

[ It starts like this: Terry and Kara parted ways and agreed to try again for coffee. But there was never a 'Hey, how does tomorrow sound' from his end and Kara was just this side of shy and worried about this whole friendship with a civilian thing that she wasn't sure she could call him about coffee.

But when she'd seen neither hide nor hair of him on the Network for a while, she got a little worried. She wasn't sure picking up the phone and going 'You're not dead, right?' was the kind of thing one did, so she didn't act on it, instead keeping eyes and ears out should he show up anywhere.

On the other hand, though, if she was just patrolling and happened to be in the area, she could stop by and knock on his door, right? Just... checking in. She could say she lost his number, wanted to make sure he and the dog were okay. And wanted to see the dog again. Yeah, that would work.

Which is how she ends up standing in front of his door, wishing terribly her x-ray vision could penetrate lead. One hand raises and knocks gently, so as not to... accidentally break anything. Because that would be bad. And she'd have to buy him a new door. ]

Terry? You home?

[ Wait a little bit, then knock again, a little harder this time. Maybe it was too soft of a knock. Just because she had superhearing... ] Terry?

[ More knocking. She pauses again and then knocks just a little too hard, knocking the door off its... surprisingly sturdy hinges. ]

Oh, crap! Ohcrapohcrap! Terry! If you're home, I'm sorry I broke your door. ... if you're not, I'm sorry for breaking and entering to fix your door...

[ She moves the broken door aside so she can step into the apartment and... freezes. Because that— that stuff can't be what she thinks it is. It just can't be. ]

But even he can't really be considered a crazed loner. He's got too many people that care about him for that.

[He shifts and winces.]

[ And her teasing smile immediately turns into a worried frown. ]

Are you okay? Do you need ice or something? Or an actual chair?

He lives up in the mansion with his dog and probably spends his days practicing his glare.

[He laughs a little, very softly, rather kindly.

It's nothing. I'm fine. Kara, I've had so much worse than this. Doesn't make it fun, but I'll survive.

Yeah, but I wasn't the one to fracture your ribs, then. I've usually got much better control than that and—

[ She sighs and runs a hand through her hair. ]

I just don't want you to be uncomfortable or something because of me.

Under the circumstances it was understandable.

Understandable, but not excusable. I should have more control than that.

[Dryly:]

You thought I was a psycho who was out to kill you and your family. I think I can find it in my heart to forgive you for not keeping as tight a grip on yourself as normal, especially since you were poisoned and being poisoned at the time.

Well, when you put it like that...

No. That doesn't mean I don't still feel bad, though.

[ There's a small, not exactly amused laugh. ] This is just kind of a thing with me.

What do you mean?

The not wanting to hurt people thing. It's happened before when I was trying to save some people from a collapsing building and there's some other stuff that's happened along the same lines. Knowing that it happened again means I'm beating myself up a little. It's just... a thing.

[battothefuture]

Okay, remember those little pep talks you were giving me just now about not feeling so guilty?

I'm a giant hypocrite sometimes. Mostly when it comes to this. Everything else I'm more or less okay with, or learning how to deal with.

All right, well if you get to try and shame me into getting over it, I get to do the same thing.

Alright, fine. Maybe it'll help in the whole working on it thing.

Also, you may be a giant hypocrite, but you are a cute hypocrite too. Which always helps.

[Terry adds income tax to the center.]

[ There's a moment of her just staring at him with a surprised expression before she turns slightly red and looks down at the board. If she moves a little too fast when she grabs the dice, well. It's just a little speed. Nothing big, right? ]

[Terry occupies himself with playing with puppy for a while]

[ WELL THIS IS AWKWARD. And she's still not looking up at him yet. Because the only people that ever call her cute are the idiots who jump off buildings so she'll catch them and they can try and get her number. Totally different from someone she knows saying it.

She clears her throat a little self-consciously. ]

Didn't I just go?

[But he reaches for the dice anyway.]

I just rolled and moved. So it's your turn.

[ She finally looks up at him, though her head is still tilted down and her chin is resting in her palm. Please to not be flustering her again. She has no idea how to deal when that happens. ]

[His head tilts a little too as he looks at her.]
