   So once upon a time, two men from high fantasy settings decided that record-breaking snowfall on the east coast was stupid and also being hassled by local authorities for magically blowing up things wasn't much fun either. The solution was clear: Get the hell out of Dodge the City.

   By train. Because lots of people took the train - it has to be totally fine, right?

   A series of train rides with hopes to getting to Arizona. Here's some threads of what happens along the way and after. ENJOY.

He's resilient, though. Queen hasn't killed him yet, not for lack of trying.

Henh. [zel lets himself grin -- c'mon, he's staring upwards; not like he's killin his straightface image (that he thinks he has) doing something like that once in a while.] Is that saying something?

Granted. An incentive not to ignore everything is a good idea...

It's only inconvenient if you've got something better to do, I guess. [hell, what does he know about what's convenient for geddoe?

zel sits up eventually, rubbing the back of his head. it's not very comfortable laying on your hands for so long. but that's fine, because food will be soon. he frowns a little, still mulling his response over.]

Or...if you'd rather not have them exposed to this place for whatever reason.

It's not that. [as he tests the kebabs to see if they're done enough to eat yet] They're mercenaries. They chose to follow me into a war they had no stake in, because they trusted me. They'd be fine, here...although I can see a couple of them annoying the hell out of everyone.

I traveled alone for many years; being without my team is no big deal to me.

[zel fidgets around, crossing his legs and dropping his hands in his lap, frowning at the fire a bit before shooting geddoe a wary glance.] So why did you go back to the City? And stick around?

[idle poking - the meat needs another minute]

You mean...after being in Canada?

[sigh] The cold. I like having somewhere to winter, where I can stay indoors and visit the tavern as often as I want.

apparently devoid of poker face, zel looks a little sullen at that for a beat. what the heck was he expecting, though? one crazy revelation at a time - we just discovered the capacity for laughter, no need to get all crazy!

hmph. well, whatever. zel keeps his stare directly at the fire.] Is it done yet?

[it's nothing personal, Zel, he hasn't let anyone be close for over fifty years]

Almost. Give it a minute or two. Eating raw meat isn't good for anybody.

[he eases back to a seat on the ground] ...this is better than those granola bars, at least.

[zel makes a faintly annoyed sound.] I was going to bring other stuff, but...[lina, human black hole and hoarder of all things edible (or shiny)...]

It's fine. I know this sort of fare [gesturing to the sticks o' meat] isn't exactly fine dining, but it'll do. Until we get tired of this traveling and head back into a town, anyway.
