You're a spineless, pale, pathetic lot, and you haven't got a clue
WHO: Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Bakura
WHERE: School of comfy jammies!
WHEN: Friday afternoon
WARNINGS: Gratuitous Mulan references
SUMMARY: Bakura wants to become stronger. What better way to accomplish this than to thwack him with sticks?
FORMAT: What format?
So far, attempts to bolster Bakura's confidence in himself through more physical applications were going... poorly.
Qui-Gon, even in instructing young children for an afternoon as a sort of guest lecturer, had never had to deal with a timid pupil. He felt he could attribute this in part to the nature of children, eager to please and possessing an awareness of their limitations that is only occasionally present. Bakura, being a fully-formed young man, had had ample time to recognize and dwell on his limitations. To the point of neurosis, it seemed.
"Bakura, it is key that you swing at me with the intent to hit me," he said for what felt to him like the tenth time that afternoon. In reality, it was only the third. "I will not be upset if you do. It is the point of the exercise."

Great. It's a running gag. *kermit face*
Come on, Bakura Ryou. Focus! If you can't even do this, what chance do you have next time something horrible happens?
His grip on the wooden sword tightened. Was this going to be how it always was? A failure at everything, always the first to fall, unable to do anything but disappoint. Without his magic, he was useless. He couldn't even defend himself with it, how was he going to manage without it?
His head feel forward slightly, bangs obscuring his eyes. Here Qui-Gon and Ben were putting aside time to help him and all he could do was fail. What good was he like that?
What good was he?
There was a feel as if something that had been holding up under so much weight had finally snapped as he shifted positions, gripping the sword with both hands, ignoring the painful ache of his left. With a yell he rushed forward, not even seeing as he swung wildly with all the force of his self loathing.
YOU MUST BE SWIFT AS THE COURSING RIVER!
This was a lesson he himself had had to learn, with no Master but himself as a guide. Once the greater part of the self-hate was purged, the old wounds could heal cleanly, and the boy could begin to build himself into the worthy man Obi-Wan had always seen in him.
"Good," he said, quiet but encouraging.

"Much better, but try to keep your focus clear," he advised as he lashed out at Bakura with a strike of his own.

His breath caught as he landed before he gave a shuddering exhale, left hand shaking as his arm went slack.
Couldn't even stay in his feet...
How could anyone say he was strong like this?

"Not to worry. Fall down seven times, stand up eight." He half-smiled. "Or so I hear people say on this planet."

But he nodded anyway, shaking out his left hand, unconsciously going to activate his powers to sooth away any damage that might have been caused. His hand twitched when he remembered that that power was gone. The one thing he was good at...
The brief shoot of anger may have dissipated, but the self loathing was still far too strong.

"If that's bothering you, we can get a brace for your wrist before we continue."

Since he couldn't be a mage class any longer...
He looked over at Ben with a shake of his head. "It's fine, my wrist doesn't hurt." His hand was another matter, but he wasn't going to point that out.
