Visiting Hours

WHO: Vivi and anyone else who wants to visit.
WHERE: St. Joan's Hospital in the City.
WHEN: From today [Sunday evening] through to at least the next few days, until they discharge him.
WARNINGS: Outrage and a very injured Vivi.
WHAT: Vivi is stuck in hospital for a while thanks to the weekend events. He is accepting visitors.
FORMAT: Your choice - para or quicklog is fine. Just remember to put the day/date you're visiting.

Vivi sat up in his bed, staring out the window. The message had gotten out and he was glad to be back - he just wished he was home rather than here. He was getting better, certainly, but he didn't like all the gaps in his memory.

He stared and tried to reassemble his fragmented memories of the weekend, though it wasn't going especially well. His thoughts kept drifting, wondering if he was getting any visitors today...

Vivi blinked in surprise when he saw the doctor. He did look quite strange, but he was getting used to that. The City had all sorts of people in it after all.

He gave the doctor a smile when he introduced himself and settled back into the bed, before reaching for the whiteboard and writing.

AS LONG AS I GET TO BE ABLE TO TALK AGAIN - THAT'S THE IMPORTANT PART. THANK YOU.

"Very welcome. Throat is most severe injury, will start there. Get you talking again sooner. " A glowing yellow tool appeared over his left arm. Mordin tapped it a few times, and it beeped. He knelt by Vivi's bed.

"Going to use this to apply medi-gel to your injuries. Advanced healing agent from my own universe, painless. You'll feel a slightly cool sensation as it is applied. Ready to begin?"

Vivi nodded and moved his head back to reveal as much of his throat and neck as he could without too much pain. His muscles compalained bitterly at the work, but he put up with it.

The sooner he was up and about again, the better.

The omni-tool hummed as Mordin waved it over the bruises on Vivi's neck, processing the medi-gel into tiny droplets that were sprayed invisibly onto Vivi's skin and into the bruised flesh beneath the surface. Wherever it touched it sealed and disinfected, promoting the body's healing process.

Medi-gel was most useful for sealing open wounds though, so once he was done salving the throat bruises Mordin turned his attention to the gash on Vivi's arm. The gel was sprayed between the stitches, instantly closing up the wound and soothing the injured flesh, like an invisible liquid bandage. From the future.

Mordin muttered to himself as he worked. "Strange they would do so much damage specifically to the throat," he said, not looking up. "Could mean they wanted to keep you from talking."

The medigel felt cool and soothing on his throat, and Vivi could feel the pain and stiffness lessening as it worked. He watched as the gel quickly closed up the gash on his arm, even taking the stitches away. It was like healing magic in a gel.

Mordin's comment about talking prompted Vivi to tap and reach for the whiteboard. IT WAS TO KEEP ME FROM CASTING SPELLS.

Now Mordin looked up. "Abilities based on vocalization? Hmm. Means they knew what you were capable of, implies high level of information possessed by attackers. Disturbing." He waved the tool over Vivi's face, applying the gel to the cuts there, then deactivated it and stepped back.

"There. Pack emptied. How do you feel? Specifically concerned about your breathing. Damage to neck poses threat to airways. Hope respiration is easier now."

Vivi tried to speak but the medigel was still working. He managed a wheeze before reaching for the whiteboard again. THEY DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL I USED A SPELL TO POISON ONE OF MY ATTACKERS. IF THEY'D KNOWN THEY WOULD'VE STARTED WITH A THROAT STRIKE.

He waited a moment and closed his eyes, focusing on the feelings inside his body, before cleaning the whiteboard and writing on it again. ARM DOESN'T HURT. BREATHING IS MUCH BETTER; I THINK YOU FIXED MY RIBS. ARMS AND LEGS FEEL BETTER. BREATHING AND SWALLOWING DOESN'T HURT AS MUCH AS IT DID BEFORE.

"Very good. Successful treatment. Glad that gel is still effective in other dimensions. Only have two more packs left. Need to conserve them."

Mordin started to pace at the foot of Vivi's bed, hand on his chin. "Better that they reacted to your abilities instead of knowing them beforehand. Other option entailed greater capacities of enemies, higher threat."

He turned to look at Vivi. "Would like to ask: your recollections of attackers? Clothing, age, equipment, faces if uncovered? Don't want to wear you out. Okay if you would rather rest now."

Vivi crossed his legs - with some effort - and thought for a moment, trying to go through the holes in his memory. He picked up the whiteboard and spent a while writing on it, smaller than normal to fit everything on.

NOT MUCH. ADULT, DON'T REMEMBER SEEING MUCH IN THE WAY OF FACES. I THINK THEY HAD THEM COVERED. THEY WERE MOSTLY BIG PEOPLE... MAYBE MILITARY? DEFINITELY TRAINED. I DON'T REMEMBER MUCH OF WHAT THEY SAID, BUT WHEN I WAS FIGHTING THEM THEY ALL STARTED SHOUTING IN A LANGUAGE I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

I REMEMBER SOMEONE GRABBING ME WHEN I WAS WLAKING ON THE STREET AND A SHARP PAIN IN MY SHOULDER, LIKE A NEEDLE. I REMEMBER GETTING INTO THE FIGHT PRETTY WELL: I DON'T THINK I WAS IN THE CITY AT THE TIME - NOT SURE ON THAT THOUGH, IT COULD'VE BEEN ANYWHERE. I GOT REALLY ANGRY AND CAST SOME STRONG SPELLS. I KILLED A FEW OF THEM AND DESTROYED A FEW BITS OF THE PLACE I WAS AT BEFORE SIX OF THEM GOT THE JUMP ON ME AND STARTED PUNCHING MY THROAT.

THE NEXT THING I REMEMBER CLEARLY IS WAKING UP IN HOSPITAL.

"Needle. Could mean drugs, sedatives. Efficient kidnapping method." Mordin was tapping his omni-tool again, noting it all down for others. His memory made the notes unnecessary for himself, but it was still a good idea. "Destroyed parts of location? Good. Find damaged building, maybe find place they were holding you." A sharp inhale. "Also good that you killed some of them. Make them dispose of comrades' bodies, leave more evidence to be uncovered. More possibilities for investigation."

He stopped pacing. "This language- could be important. Could be clue as to origins of attackers. Can look up specific words or even just sounds, if you can remember them. Find out what they were speaking, what they were saying." He looked up from the tool and narrowed his eyes. With eyes like his, the effect was more than a little uncanny. "Maybe find out who they were."

Vivi sat and listened intently - not that he could do much else. Dr. Solus had good points, but most of them relied too much on him remembering things. He was right about his own efforts though; if Vivi was right about damaging their base, that would make things a bit easier for them.

I'LL TRY, BUT I DON'T HAVE MUCH IN THE WAY OF MEMORIES YET he wrote when Dr. Solus finished. His eyes did look kind of creepy when they narrowed like that. IF I HEARD THE LANGUAGE AGAIN, THAT WOULD PROBABLY HELP. I'M SORRY I CAN'T REMEBER AS MUCH AS I SHOULD. I DON'T LIKE GAPS IN MY MEMORY.

"Understood." Mordin nodded, a fast, eager motion. Moral outrage aside, being on a trail like this was exciting to him. "Will leave you for now. Prescribing bed rest, quiet. Important your body relaxes. More energy dedicated to healing, less spent writing explanations for curious Salarians." He smiled. "Don't want arm getting tired. Adding repetitive strain injury to your chart counterproductive."

"Memory will hopefully become clearer as recovery proceeds. Contact me if you recall that language! Want to help in finding people responsible, prevent further attacks. Kill them if necessary." The Professor talked about killing in exactly the same tone of voice he used for prescribing medicine. "If memory does not recover, can make second visit. Will compile audio files of human languages, play them for you. See if anything sounds familiar."

Vivi shifted uncomfortably when Dr. Solus casually mentioned killing people. Sure, Vivi had been there himself, but that was out of necessity; they were trying to kill him at the time. Now...

He nodded and wrote again. I'LL GET SOME REST. THANK YOU FOR COMING DR. SOLUS. IF I REMEMBER ANYTHING, I'LL LET YOU KNOW.
