[The nights here left her especially restless. In the Empire, she was free to leave even during the daylight hours thanks to the dome their Great Mother had made many years ago. Here she had to wait for the sun to come down and even then what she could do was limited. The places here were not meant to accommodate vampires. Still some places didn't seem to have a time limit such as the park. That was where Shahrazad was heading from her MAC apartment building paying little mind to her surroundings. Her senses were far too dull here for her to put up the effort.]

[ Many things had happened in Kate's short time in this new world, things that have put her on edge and uneasy thoughts worming their way into her head. There were too many things to try and do. Somehow, life in Gotham felt simpler in comparison.

But she knows being idle won't help her thoughts. Job hunting gives her something to do and getting a lay of the City has kept her occupied enough.

She strolls down a sidewalk, glancing casually at her wrist watch to check the time. By midnight she wants to be out on the rooftops. ]

[Though Shahrazad may not be able to see as clearly as she did before the city one thing would always catch her eye. As she walks, a flash of red head makes her stop dead in her tracks. It's foolish. If Esther was here everyone would know. The Lady-Saint would no doubt take the kidnapping badly and run off. Still she found herself staring in the direction of that flash and saying her name.]

Esther... [It's not her though the skin certainly was pale enough. She turned to go off in another direction. Would she ever stop unconsciously looking for her tovaras? The thought weighed on her as she began to walk.]

[ She looks up and from the corner of her eyes, she catches a glimpse of the dark skin and the long hair flowing behind as the woman turns.

Her heart stops.

The way the evening sun settles onto that person's skin reminds Kate of her. It might just be a fleeting dream. Who knows. All of this could still be a long, tiresome dream.

But it doesn't stop her from inching forward. She's going to disappear into the crowds and she can't have that. Not again. She needs to --

She sprints after the woman. ]

[Shahrazad walks on a few seconds until even her duller sense of hearing catches the sound of footsteps. She turns to face the source; the woman who greatly resembled Esther making her way through toward her. Had she noticed her staring? Does she notice it now?]

Renee! Oh --

[ She halts when she's made it closer and she looks on apologetically at the woman. Staring at her, she feels this woman has a certain grace to her and her face is way too feminine to be Renee. And the way her hair flows carelessly behind her -- she should have noticed it from the start. ]

I'm sorry.

[Shahrazad shakes her head. Her smile is strained but, there.] I mistook you for my tovaras at first. I apologize if my staring offended you.

[She laughs softly.] Were you searching for your lost tovaras too?

[ Kate can barely crack one herself, her expression caught between a mix of embarrassment and disappointment. ]

I didn't notice. Thought you were someone else. [ She bites her lower lip. ] Sorry.

Tovaras?

Your beloved partner. [Shahrazad explains.] Don't apologize. It seems we both made the same mistake.

[ "Beloved"... that stings, but she holds her composure.

This woman looks doll-like... the kind of beauty you don't see outside of magazines or cleverly disguised photoshops. ]

Yeah...

[ She changes the subject abruptly: ] What language is that? Tovaras.

It's Meth. [She doesn't make any comment about the sudden change.]

Does Tzara Methuselah exist where you come from?

[ She looks surprised, suddenly. ]

"Man of the spear." [ Hebrew. ] Son of Enoch, according to the Hebrew bible.

[ But those are just stories. ]

[Shahrazad almost seems nervous for a moment. People who quote the Bible often attempt to kill her moments later.]

I had heard that was where the name originated from.

What is Methuselah in your world? [ She studies her closely. ]

They are considered vampires. [She answers honestly. Shahrazad has no interest in hiding things here and now. Her life was already over.]

But, we are human.

[ Kate's eyes widen at the mere idea of vampires. ]

Are... were you?

I don't drink human blood but, I get blood transfusions here regularly. [It breaks her heart a little to see her reaction. Will this woman hate her?]

And I cannot walk in the sun. That would make me one to most people, wouldn't it?

[ She looks skeptical for half a second. ]

Never heard of a vampire getting transfusions. [ But she doesn't look uncomfortable or afraid, mostly curious. ]

Normally we take pills. [Shahrazad explains.] They are unavailable here so I manage with those.

[ A pill supplement. She nods, to show she follows the explanation. ] The hospitals know about -- [ Wait, how does she even put this? ]

Somewhat? [She shrugs.] I explained it to the best of my ability.

[ She's intrigued, but knows prying any further may cause discomfort in any complete stranger. And right now, she's simply Kate Kane. ]

Sorry. You're my first.

It's alright. [She smiles pleasantly.] You're not the first person to have never encountered a Methuselah here.

The only person I met that knows them also slays vampires.

[ She offers an apologetic look. ] Did they try to hurt you?

No. [Shahrazad beams proudly.] She believed me when I told her I did not hurt humans.

She was incredibly kind to me.

You'll have to forgive us humans for all the movies and books we've read on vampires.
