getting repeatedly punched in the face with FRESH AIR
WHO: Terra und Zel
WHERE: The Alps!!!
WHEN: July; whenever we freakin' feel like gosh
WARNINGS: I don't know like anything about Switzerland besides Alps and Deutsch and Ricola commercials
SUMMARY: VACATION, NATCH
FORMAT: no
There is something to be said of clean, smog-free air and a higher ratio of green compared to the manufactured colors of civilization. And clear skies. And freedom from gawkers and murmuring strangers.
And being emotionally validated to some degree. That, too, probably played a big part in the status of Zelgadis' mood; though he was, at brief and occasional points, abysmally bitter about being unable to be validated to most degrees, but that was to be expected. Utter contentment was still just a fantasy of a goal in his life, but he wasn't complaining at the moment.
The town was still in sight at the height they were at, so there was no fear of getting lost, though...it didn't seem all that big an issue to get lost in such a place. Neither of them suffered the temperatures too greatly in general, so even if it hadn't been as nice as it was (well, rain here and there), they'd hardly have batted an eyelash at it. There was enough game to avoid having to mull around hooded and strange in towns, and aside from the weird yodeling thing now and then (much of it amateurish...tourists), it was pleasant. And with no crisis-of-the-week dogging at their heels, being able to wander without plan was...very nice.
Despite the time of day, he was dozing. He'd been up most of the night, partly on watch and partly trying to match up his maps and guides with the distinctly more detailed sky above them. Stars didn't show like that back in the City, what with all the lights and smog. He seldom realized how he missed seeing them until they were there stretched out before him like that.
He probably mentioned something about fishing hours prior, but he'd gotten comfortable and just closed his eyes for a second...

It was easier to believe they'd somehow crossed into another world entirely, than just across the ocean and some time of travel away from the City.
But even for all the new sights and sounds, it would have been difficult to lose track of Zelgadis. As far away from the City as they were, and so lacking in natural magic as this world was, the power clinging to Zelgadis and that which he pulled here from his own world stood out like a full moon hanging low on the dark horizon. She could have found him with her eyes closed.
It only took about ten minutes of walking to find where he companion had ventured off to, but she was in no hurry. Walking quietly as she could manage, she wondered how close she could get without him noticing her approach.

His stirring and small amount of noise didn't halt her steps, but did slow down her already leisurely pace. After all, she had no real goal aside from this: letting herself plop down on the thick summer grass beside him, content.
"Hey," was all the greeting she gave, smiling up toward the blue sky.

He had the energy to crack an eyelid half-open, squinting against the sun trying to poke in from behind his hair. A needless thing, considering the blocked view. And anyway, he could hear and smell just fine.
"Hi," he croaked in a whisper, still dry from sleeping.

And without a true goal for their journey--for they weren't seeking out some foe to destroy, nor were they escaping some pursuer--it was easier for her to focus on the important thing: her feelings. There were many of them, especially as far as Zelgadis was concerned. Like always, Terra wasn't sure she understood them.
"Sleep well?"

With his hand shading his view, he craned his neck and peered upward blearily. "It's already past midday..."

"It's fine," he assured in a mutter that was more a childish excuse than assurance. "I wasn't tired anyway."
no subject
"That's okay." Even her voice she managed to keep mostly even; this wasn't a time she wanted him to think she was making fun of him (even if she sort of was). "There's no hurry."
As if to prove her point, Terra twisted where she sat in the grass, moving to lean against his shoulder.
no subject
"No," he agreed, and he was relieved of that. He was free to be only anxious in that schoolboyish way of nerves, because she really was too ridiculously attractive already, not without her face getting that look it did when she was stifling a laugh. "This place doesn't seem too desperate for attention as to be a danger every five seconds..."

Though Zelgadis was only part golem, his body had no yield, and leaning against him was almost exactly like pressing against a statue. A statue with moveable joints, sure, but all the same. The tingle of magic she felt radiating from him, almost but nothing like body heat, was something of a boon. It didn't erase the discomfort that stone enforced, but it put her at ease.
"It's quiet," she agreed. "I don't think... I've ever been anywhere as calm as this. Even in my own world..."
They hadn't been attacked by bears even once.

"There's parts of the continent like this," Zelgadis said, tilting his head up a bit to peer skyward. "If you get far enough from the towns or cities and stay away from bandit territory. But there's usually something around to cause problems. Trolls or something else wandering around. It's never so carefree."

Terra bit down on her lower lip.

"I'm sure they're charming," he remarked flatly.
