[ Has it really been over a year here? She'd glanced at a calendar the other day, blinked to see she was a few months past the one that would have marked her Cityversary, and shrugged. There were people around that'd been here for a lot longer than a year, after all. She'd said goodbye to a few that had been here for way longer, even.

It had made her think a little, though. She's perched under the eave of an apartment roof and just out of the light sprinkle of spring rain, knees drawn to her chest, and doing exactly that. It'd been odd to patrol alone when she'd first showed up. First, sure, it had been neat, being liberated by the sometimes (often) authoritarian Batman of her world. Then strange. Then lonely. Then she'd acclimated. It was really just as simple as that, and she suspects that everyone's stories are the same. Novel, lonely, and then acclimated.

It had been nice, though, to patrol with other people while they were here. Not that there's much use in thinking about it, though. Even when they come back, half the time they just leave again and the other half it's not the right version. Also, she suspects, a story that's been heard before.

Oh, well. ]

[ Any of the lighthearted curiosity left drains pretty effectively away as she listens, watching the view through the windows. Like she'd thought earlier, there's no question that he knows-- or at least suspects. But these aren't the actions of someone who wants to be pitted against her. This is-- well, a second chance. For this guy and for her.

But she doesn't want a second chance, right? She'd made her choice already. She'd made it when she asked Miho to show her how to kill. (Like this guy had made his choice when he pulled the trigger the first time?)

She lets out a slow breath, too distracted by her own thoughts to know what she's supposed to say. ]

It's not... I mean, they're not all happy endings. Some of 'em-- they'll never get better, 'n don't want to, either.

Not everybody, no. [ It's a quiet admission, but really she has to be either a little less quick on the uptake than he'd anticipated or misreading things purposefully. It makes his heart sink a little. ]

But I'm not gonna be the one to take that choice away from him.

[ It feels like she's babbling. She bites her lip against any more words-- anything that might give her away-- and lapses into a tightly wound silence. She can see the lesson in this. She can see it right up until she thinks of Jason, or Miho. They're not wrong, she knows that. They'd made so much sense to her before.

But then, so does this, if she lets herself think of it Dick's way.

Both arms fold over her stomach, and when she speaks again it's low and a little flat. ]

Guess I'm pretty tired after all.

Sure. [ It's as much of an excuse as any to turn in the other direction while he tugs out the grappling gun. It's probably an exercise in futility, yet again.

[ The brush of fingertips over Dick's cape is light enough that Bruce, with his heavy and weighted cape, wouldn't have felt it, and the low and whispered apology could be easily lost over the noise of the early morning traffic starting to pick up. And then she's gone, and she doesn't even bother to use a grappling gun. She just drops straight off the edge, trusting her powers to spare her from a fatal landing. They do, of course, and she's disappearing immediately into the shadows at street level. ]
