SUMMARY: Teens and young adults in an RV driving to NJ to have a drunken bonfire. What could possibly go wrong???

Jessica was beyond excited. In the days leading up to the RV trip, she barely shut up about it. Even as she boarded the RV Laura had procured for their adventure and took the shotgun seat, she could barely stop talking. It was a beautiful day in the City, and the weather reports for their destination in Southern New Jersey called for blue skies and sunshine. It would be perfect beach-going weather, and it was bound to be the perfect summer night!

[Tom wasn't a fan of waterslides... or water in general, but he did promise that he would show up as long as he wasn't kidnapped by the "party van". He'd had enough of being in overcrowded vehicles for the time being.

So, here he was, sitting on a towel on the beach and smoking idly, watching as people walked by or did their own thing.]

[girlverine]

[A shadow would pass over him and then Laura was sinking down onto the sand next to his towel, stretching her legs out. She was dressed in a not-quite-skimpy-but-close black bikini that Jessica had pestered her into getting, and she shifted a bit to adjust it before she looked at Tom.]

I was not certain you would come.

[borntobewildcat]

[He takes a moment to appreciate her new look, and she really did look good in the bikini... It didn't take a genius to figure out that Jessica must have picked it out for her.]

You look nice.

[He smiled, taking a drag of his cigarette and looking out over the water.]

Yeah, well, it was either show up on my own or be kidnapped into the party van. I've learned to take those threats a little more seriously lately.

Are you enjoying yourself so far?

[girlverine]

Thank you.

[Laura unconsciously adjusted one of the straps on her bikini after he spoke. She would've been fine naked, but there was something odd about wearing clothing designed to imply naked without actually being naked.]

We would not have kidnapped you. [A little pause.] But it is probably best we didn't have to. I don't believe you would have enjoyed the ride tied up in the back.

[Was that a joke?! Maybe. Her eyes shifted away as she thought about his last question. Was she?]

Yes, I am.

[Don't mind the surprise in her voice.]

I don't believe that you would kidnap me, but I wouldn't put it past Jessica or maybe Johnny. Jessica doesn't seem the type to make idle threats.

[He shrugged and put out his cigarette.]

Why are you surprised?

[girlverine]

No, she isn't. If she had decided she wanted you to come and you had refused. She would have convinced you, somehow.

[Laura did not consider Jessica dangerous, but she was...persistent. She fell quiet at his second question for a few moments, considering a small crab scuttling across the sand nearby.]

I am not usually very good at having...fun.

I don't think that's true. Besides, you've surrounded yourself with some very entertaining people. I don't think you'll have much of a choice but to get better at it.

[girlverine]

Maybe.

[She hadn't really thought about it that way. Most of the people she knew did some good at...having fun.]

I do not think I would mind.

[He smiled and got up to his feet, brushing the sand off of him.]

You learn fast, so I'm sure it won't be hard. [He offers his hand to her.] Want to have some fun now?

[girlverine]

[She considers his hand for a moment before she takes it and stands slowly, ignoring the sand on her own legs.]

If you wish.

Is there anything specific you'd like to do?

[girlverine]

[Laura shook her head.]

I have been doing most of the things people...do on trips to the beach. We can do whatever you wish, I will do them again.

[ god why are his friends such party poopers. johnny comes like, charging up, dripping water everywhere. ]

Dude, why are you just sitting over here by yourself?

[Because his friend is part cat, remember?]

I'm not a big fan of water. [He shrugs. It's not that he won't swim or anything, but he's just fine with being lazy too.] I would have thought that you'd be averse to it too.

Nah, I love the water. Besides, I burn hotter than it any day of the week. It's not like I can't flame on or anything.

[ oh god tom don't make him prove it to you. ]

[Nah, he believes that you flame hard enough to stay dry.]

I'm okay with it, I guess. I just prefer to stay dry, since it makes my fur heavy and matted. It's uncomfortable.

[Never mind that he isn't really fuzzy right now.]

Then just don't get all furry.

[He gets up and puts out the cigarette.]
