Throwback to old times
WHO:
julianhellion and
sofiawind
WHERE: Starting off in the MAC, heading into the sky, and who knows where from there
WHEN: Sunday afternoon
WARNINGS: Talking and stuff? Probably nothing worrying
SUMMARY: Julian wants to take Sofia flying. Also, they should hang out more or something.
FORMAT: Starting with prose here; however you like in the comments!
It's been a few days since Sofia arrived in the City. It's been kind of weird, knowing that she's here - knowing that she's close, after such a long time when Julian had no idea where she was at all. Ever since that first day, when she had arrived and he had rushed to find her, he hadn't seen her. Not in person, anyway. He knew where her apartment was, but he hadn't gone round there yet. A couple of times, he'd been tempted to - especially when she'd talked to him through vids on the network - but even so, he hadn't knocked on her door.
All the same, the temptation was there. He'd been doing a lot of thinking lately. Probably too much thinking, and definitely too much in-the-bar thinking. And then on Friday he'd gone to the dojo to train, and ended up having a spar with Tom that seemed to have a little more of an edge than would be usual for a spar, and...
Ever since then, he'd felt a little better. It wasn't that the fight had fixed everything, that it had made him stop thinking about Tom and Laura. That was still there in the back of his mind, ready to drag him back if he'd let it. The difference now was that it was at the back, and that a lot of the tension he'd been feeling that was connected with it had drained away. And the more it drained, the more he felt like he didn't want to waste time wallowing. He wanted to get out, he wanted to hang with more people, he wanted to see his friends and not be brooding and morose while he was doing it.
He wanted to see Sofia. And he didn't care what issues were still lying between the two of them. What the hell did it matter? He still wanted to see her. And if she'd come with him, he wanted to go flying with her. That had been in his head ever since they'd talked in that cafe. He knew she missed it. He did, too. He missed flying with her. They used to do that together back at the Institute, and it was nice. It was a way they could get away from everyone else.
So Julian put on blue jeans, a long-sleeved t-shirt in red and black, and a loose, aviator-style jacket. He glanced in the mirror, ran his hands through his hair and headed out, pretending like he hadn't overthought this in any sense of the word. Even though he'd only been there when he'd brought her to the MAC that first night, Julian's feet carried him automatically to the right apartment. After a minute he knocked on the door.
"Hey, Sofia? It's me. You up to anything right now?"

"Hey, Sofia? It's me. You up to anything right now?"

"Hi Julian," she smiles and steps back to let him in, "I wasn't doing anything special." Today, she is wearing skinny fitting jeans and a pink t-shirt.
It was really good to see him again. The video talks had been great, they had given her a chance to talk to Julian again, and get to know some of the changes that had happened in him. He looked older and more care worn than when she had seem him last which was no surprise, but his fire, and his impulsiveness were still there.

He'd only danced with her once, at the school dance at the end of that year when everything had seemed so good. Looking at her now, so much had changed since then. So much had happened to both of them. They'd grown up away from each other. Her hair was short now, and he remembered it flying out behind her. It suited her, though. For some reason, he liked the new look.
"Well, if you're not busy, you feel like going out?" He tried to sound casual. "I was thinking I could show you round the City. Took me a while to get used to it. Different from our New York."
no subject
She turned away from him and turned the music off and grabbed a short navy jacket to wear out.
"Do you know any places to go dancing?"
no subject
"I've seen a few," he said, with a slight smile. "Haven't been in any." Not the kind of place he would go alone. "You know I still think of you every time I pass one of those places?"
no subject
stepped a little closer and brushed her fingers very lightly through his hair. "Do you think you could keep up with me if we ever went?"
no subject
"I think I always could," he said, raising an eyebrow and grinning. "You never did give me the chance."
He moved towards the main door, holding it open for her. "Let me ask you something. You said you missed flying with me. How much do you miss it?" And he held his hand out. The worst she could say was no. "Enough to let me take you up?"
no subject
"Julian."
She caught up with him and closed her fingers around his. "Yes." She could not wait to see the world from above again and to feel the winds in her hair.
no subject
He held her hand lightly.
"Okay. Cool. Cause...I've missed this too."
He used his powers to lift them. Actually he'd never done this before; any time she'd flown with him, she'd been using her wind powers beside him. He'd never had to lift her so he didn't know how comfortable she'd be with it or whether she'd want him to hold her tighter than this. His teke would never drop her, but she'd never had to trust it before. He took them up above the apartment building, and started heading towards the centre of the City. He kept close enough to her that he didn't have to talk very loud.
"Bringing back memories?"
no subject
She squeezed his hand tightly. "It felt good when flew together, it wasn't something other people understood."
no subject
"How could they?" he said, looking back at her. He turned them a little, and sped up so that the air would rush around them some more. He couldn't simulate wind, but he could enjoy the sky. "This was our thing. Always was."
He was quiet for a while, thinking about that. Doing this with Sofia was like going back in time. Finally he looked below, and pointed to one of the buildings.
"I think that one's a dance studio. There's an arcade nearby, I've been there before. Sure that's the right place."
no subject
She looked down and had to smile. Dance studios always had the same look to them.
The wind whipped through her hair, sending it back from her face. It almost felt like she could reach out and take control of it. But that was an illusion.
"Trust you to find the nearest arcade."
no subject
"Like this?" he said. "Not so much. Took Jess for a while when we were at the beach a few weeks back, just for kicks. She wanted to know about my powers, seemed the best way to show her. Any other time's been a mission thing, though. Teammates...the Hellions, the team we had...after, Laura. That was work stuff."

He nods, agreeing with her. Then he looks at her with a tiny smile and comes closer to her. He’s holding her mainly with his powers, but he also still has hold of her hand. He lets it go now, sliding an arm around her waist instead. This is only for security, he promises. Suddenly they’re going much faster, and higher. He loops them around, playing in the air, having fun with it in a way he just doesn’t do when he’s flying to get from one point to another.
“This is real flying. And we can. Any time you want.”
no subject
"You might regret saying that if I appear at any time of the day or night asking for a fly Julian."
no subject
"Sweetheart, you could show up at four in the damn morning and I wouldn't care," he admits, perfectly honestly since it's not unusual for him to be up at that time anyway. "In fact, do that some time. Flying with the stars out is a whole other kind of awesome."
no subject
How does he do that? Julian can turn her insides into goo with a simple suggestion. Even after all this time, he still had the same effect he'd had on her since the day she had first met him.

Just his natural talent, beautiful. He smiled back, feeling himself relaxing. It was a combination of Sofia's happy influence, and flying like this. He could have done this all day. He'd completely forgotten that he was supposed to be showing her points of interest around the City. He'd remember at some point, probably.
"We should do it. That's a view most people don't see cause New York's so busy. So much light all the time, but if you go above it all...I don't know, I like doing that. Always did, and I always liked it better with you."
no subject
"Every where looks so different at night."

"Yeah, well, he was a New Mutant. I'd have needed to clear my head too."
He risks a grin. He's mainly trying to get her to laugh, but if he can make her remember less...sad parts of the old days, that's good too.
no subject
"You wouldn't have lasted two days with us, before you went nuts."
...I need so many new icons of these two
"Hey, give me some credit. I'd have driven you guys just as nuts."
...same I don't feel like I have enough
She had stopped looking down at the city, and was more intersted in the sky and Julian's face.
