[Learn, yes. Reminds him of Gemma, only-- softer. Less edge. But looks can be deceiving.]

I'm hoping to see that a young woman I know find a proper tutor. Her magic is much more alien to mine. I hope that someone here may be able to further instruct her or know someone who can.

[Tara frowns thoughtfully.] Can you tell me what it's like? Does she need to use words or can she sort of will it to happen?

[He watches her for a moment, wondering if she is as genuine as she seems. Fixing his gaze on hers, he sifts so gently through her surface thoughs, like brushing fingertips through sand and seeing what collects against the skin.]

She is a willworker. Vocalless. Though I have heard her speak words to work, I do not think she is required to do so.

[Tara remains (thankfully) oblivious to this. Instead she smiles.]

That's sort of how it works where I come from. [Tara glances at a discarded piece of paper on the floor. After a second of focus it gently floats into her hand.]

See? It sort of changes depending on what you need to do.

Yes. [Very much like that. Snape nods once.] Are you an experienced witch, so young? My associate could use someone of like craft, and like will--

[And so full of pure thoughts of helpfulness and not one selfish concern-- Snape hates finding himself against a set of thoughts that have no selfishness; it makes it hard for him to conjure up hate when he needs it.]

--that perhaps you might help her gain mastery. Her magic is -- almost like a living thing. Wild and untamed. It needs to be broken to the reins. But how to do it remains a question.

[identity profile] spicytalk.livejournal.com 2011-09-07 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh well it runs in my family... the women anyways. My mother and grandmother were very powerful witches.

[She brushes aside some of her hair.] Well I don't know about being broken. I can help her focus it?

[She frowns suddenly.] It isn't acting on its own, is it? Or spells going wrong? If she's got a lot of power that could be bad. Really bad.

It has in the past.

[He will not speak of the sharing; only if Tara is useful for teaching Gemma will that come up.]

This is something you have seen in your world, then?

[identity profile] spicytalk.livejournal.com 2011-09-09 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Tara nods.] If you don't respect magic, at least where I come from, it can become addictive. On the road to that... I've seen people go too far with it. Not always intentionally. It just responds to what they want deep down and things happen.

[he's never heard of magic being addictive-- beyond the power rush, anyway, but that's not the same thing. Enjoying power-- isn't quite the same thing as addiction.]

It's killed her before, in this city.

Perhaps I might arrange for the two of you to meet? She needs a moderating influence, and a teacher. While you may not be-- as experienced as some might, you seem to understand certain danger -- and her type of magic -- better than I.

It's killed... [Tara is speechless at that. People didn't exactly come back from the dead in Sunnydale without some serious consequences. Finally she manages to say something. It's clear she's deeply concerned.]

Yeah... I think that's a good idea. It sounds like she's long overdue for a teacher. I'll do whatever I can.

[Snape draws a card out of his pocket; SEVERUS SNAPE across in sharp, spikey lettering, and a network # and cellphone #. He passes it to her.]

Severus Snape. I don't believe I've caught your name.

[Her thoughts revealed her, but it's polite to ask and pretend.]

[identity profile] spicytalk.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Tara takes it and looks it over.] Tara Maclay. It's nice to meet you, Mr. Snape.

Miss Maclay. I'm afraid I've things I must do to prepare for the day and the morrow, but I'd like to keep in touch with you, in regards to Miss Doyle.

[identity profile] spicytalk.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh well I don't want to take up any more of your time. You can reach me over the Network anytime.

I shall. Thank you, Miss Maclay.

[He's going to have to make... plans now. Work with Gemma further. Means seeing her again after that horrific episode where dreams became real... but they'd have to deal.]
