This is ridiculous. Stop this at once. Wizard Snape is obviously not your husband and-

[Ysera is backing up slightly, trying to put some space between her and the flailing woman, but the rest of her reply is cut off by another of the women. The woman in back, holding the Book of Devotion, suddenly points at Ysera and shouts.]

"She must have put a spell on him! She's bewitched him into forgetting us and tricked him into loving her! We have to save him!"

[Then the woman with the walking stick hefted it like a weapon and let out a cry.]

"For our Husband! Our True Love will save him from the demon whore!"

[And then she charged at Ysera, swinging her walking stick overhand. Outraged cries and screams came from all around.

Ysera stared in shock, through her closed eyes, for a second, then abruptly stepped forward into the strike and raised her arm to block it. The outfit she wore wasn't just for show. Those armored gauntlets were designed to take blows in battle that were far stronger than this woman's flailing swings. After blocking the strike, Ysera twisted her arm to grip the stick to prevent another blow.

The woman shrieked in rage as her strike was blocked. The woman with the green purse hefted it like a weapon and rushed in to join the assault.

And then someone leaped out of the crowd and tackled the purse-wielding woman with a battle cry.
]

"FOR THE HORDE!"

[At the cry, Ysera gave a startled look in that direction. It wasn't truly a member of the Horde, was he? No... it was a human, but-

The distraction was enough for the woman to reach up and grab one of Ysera's horns and a handful of hair to yank her head down and around with a scream of "You green Bitch!"

Ysera gave a cry of pain and shock at the painful yank. Which only made the screams in the crowd grow louder.

[Snape has seen a lot of things; Death Eater ritual, orgies of sex and carnage, dark art rituals, to the very mundane boarding school life; teens sneaking off to the bushes to do what teens do, and even some staff doing the same when the urge took them, though Dumbledore eventually would give a kindly reminder, or an equally kindly sacking.]

[But this? This is like -- some where between a Death Eater frenzy and those aforementioned school children. Except these are grown women who should know better but somehow don't. That's the part he doesn't understand.]

[Fandom: It's fucking confusing.]

[He utters his spell, under his breath, sonorous and then speaks anew]

STOP THIS NONSENSE THIS MINUTE!

[Voice like a thunderclap, it startles everyone in the hall and then some, as if someone has created a sound system and wired it directly to Snape himself.]

CEASE THIS FOOLISHNESS! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES, THE LOT OF YOU!

[Clumps of fans who have read about Severus Snape's infamous temper but never actually seen it have no idea how to react to the raging wizard, cloak abillow and arms out, as he gestures as if he might strike one with one hand, wand in the other. It certainly takes the fight out of his 'wives', who have just watched their fantasy of suave, poetry-reading Snape who carves a roast goose at Christmas dinner evaporate like the morning dew.]

[The noise also has security converging on the place, as Severus advances on the women, wand still out. He cuts the noise on his sonorous spell, and speaks to them, livid with rage, lips flecked with saliva as he snarls at them for this shameful display of desperation and cruelty.]

You disgust me! Look at you! Like a pack of jackals! Don't come near me or anyone I speak to again, or you'll regret it, I promise!

[Security handles the rest, grabbing at the women, getting statements; and Snape steps back by Ysera, very obviously disturbed by the whole scene. That was... not anything he expected, and if the convention is going to be like this, he won't be staying long.]

[At least Draco didn't see it.]

[Between Snape's startlingly loud shouts startling the woman, and the enthusiastic assistance of another World of Warcraft gamer, Ysera was able to pry her off of her horn and step back out of reach as the security team waded through the crowd to break up the bout of madness.

While Severus was chewing out the mad women, several of the gamers approached Ysera. They were torn between bowing to her and fussing over her, upset she'd been harmed. Ysera tried to wave them off, but it wasn't until a member of security came for her statement that she was able to politely escape their attentions.

After giving her statement, one of the security members insisted on having the base of her horn checked to be sure she didn't need to see a doctor. Once that was taken care of, she stood back while the security team dispersed the crowd.

The whole incident had been more shocking than anything else. Oh, it was no mystery that humans could become caught up in their fantasies, but... to this degree was rare. The sheer strength of their warped delusions was so great that their fantasies were spread vividly around them. It was disorienting, and a bit nauseating, even, to see their love so warped around an empty illusion. She couldn't stand to look at their dreams for long, so had turned away.

She looked over as Snape moved to join her.
]

I thank you for your help, Severus Snape. It was bravely done, to stand against them.

Brave to stand against a pack of spinsters and future spinsters? [Well, coat him with lion fur and call him a Gryffindor. He just shakes his head at that.]

No. I couldn't simply-- let the madness go on. It was--[Totally humiliating]--simply unendurable. You are well, though? Unharmed? They grabbed at your hair like teen girls fighting over a Yule ball date.

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ysera tilted her head slightly and smiled, amused.]

Brave to stand in the face of a brewing mob brawl.

[She shook her head and lifted a hand to briefly touch the base of her horn.]

I am fine, truly. The base is a little tender, but it would take more than a deluded woman yanking on it to damage my horn.

I've seen worse.

[Satisfied that she's alright, Snape can only fall back into looking... uncomfortable, really, because now this convention has gotten supremely strange.]

Before we were rudely interrupted, you were explaining your project?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ysera laughed softly, her ears flicking in wry amusement.]

Ah, yes.

[She gestured vaguely away from the scene of the almost-riot.]

Perhaps we should walk and talk, so as to discourage a crowd gathering to watch us.

I'll escort you to the suite, if you'll allow?

[See? Totally a gentleman.]

[When he's not a raging asshole.]

[Some of the fans are already whispering again.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[She inclined her head politely.]

I would be pleased to accompany you.

[As they started off in the direction of the elevators, those whispers began spreading. A few cameras were even going off again. Ysera steadfastly ignored it all.]

[Rule 34: There will be porn of it (before the night is out).]

[Once alone, he relaxes slightly, and finally can speak with candor again.]

So this project you speak of? You require other magical folk?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[By the end of the weekend there will probably be some involving Snape/dragon!Ysera or even dragon!Snape. It will be hideous.

It's a good thing Ysera doesn't pay attention to the internet.

She nods to Snape as the elevator heads up to their floor.
]

Yes. I know the spells and rituals to shield such an artifact, and others to purify one. I am certain I can modify the casting to mesh them together, but I cannot cast it myself.
onewrongword: (Curious)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-05 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Thankfully, Snape doesn't know how to use the internet, either.]

So what artifact needs purifying? Or are you - unable to speak of it?

[He'd understand if she didn't want to yet.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Although she would not normally speak openly of the Well on the Network, this was different. She was very much hoping Snape would assist her if he was half as good at crafting new spells as he claimed. And perhaps most importantly, she was not picking up any avaricious or nefarious fantasies involving tainted artifacts from him.]

I confess I am a bit hesitant to speak widely to one and all about it. But to gain the assistance I need, I cannot leave those who might help me in the dark about it's nature.

It is a Well. There have been others like it in my world, but none were born so tainted and ill. This one is unique in this world, and I hope it will stay that way.
onewrongword: (Curious)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-05 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Little does he realize that Illidan will tell him of his 'gift' within the same weekend.]

A Well? There have been a few magical, enchanted wells in my world -- to clean water, or provide luck to the wisher, or so forth. But nothing like what you describe.

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, it is nothing quite so simple as an enchantment. It is a Wellspring of magic, you see.

This world did not have any natural sources of magic until the creation of the Well. But it is tainted by its creation, and to leave it be could prove disastrous.
onewrongword: (Curious)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I see.

[That seems dangerous, to give magic to a world that has never had it. THen again, what the hell would one call the porter drawing in magically powered folks, too? Little about the world makes sense a lot of the time.]

And you need to destroy it? Purify it? How could it be done?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, not destroy it. Destroying it would be... very bad.

[When the original Well of Eternity was destroyed it shattered the planet, broke the main continent, and sank the middle of it. Destroying it was out of the question.]

Purify it, and shield it from the notice of outside forces that would seek to control it for nefarious purposes. There is an ancient ritual magic that was used to shield and hide one such well with success. And there was another form of magic that allowed a focus to disperse and purify the energy so that it would not be so volatile and obvious. I would like to combine the two since the proper focus is not available in this world.
onewrongword: (Calm)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-06 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
So you would need a type of magic foreign to your own to complete this?

[At least that's the gist he's picking up. Before she can answer the elevator dings and the doors slide open. Oh look their floor to the suite.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-07 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods and steps out of the elevator and into the hallway.]

Yes. In fact, it may work best with more than one type. The original shield foci were made with a collaboration of several types of magic.
onewrongword: (Dark Thoughts)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-08 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
This will be most difficult. Most people here are a variety of wizard from my world, though there are others.

[He'll have to see about finding other magical types, then.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-14 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She nodded.]

Difficult, but I fear necessary.

[She sighed softly, then.]

The Well is too dangerous to leave. ...If we cannot find others who use magic other than the arcane, we may have to make do. It would require changing the ritual, but it must be done if there is no alternative.
