[Arthur sighs]

Well they don't know we're in a closet, Eames.

[What is his life.]

[ eames kicks off his stilettos. in a dream, he'd never do something so uncouth, but in reality, it at least makes him feel more grounded. ]

What in the world were you trying to accomplish?

[ arthur's life is awesome, that's what. ]

[Arthur sits back on an overturned bucket and leans back]

I want them to stop thinking Zatanna and I are an item.

Why do you care what five teenagers think you and Zatanna are doing?

[ later, eames will decide exactly how irritated he is that arthur did this without asking, but for now, he's content to make small talk. ]

It's not about me.

[It's about Zatanna.]

[ eames, as a rule, does not bring up mal unnecessarily. and he refrains from that now. ]

Are you concerned it will tarnish her reputation?

[ surely the section of fans who think zatanna jumps out cakes are the real problem there. ]

[That's a good idea. Arthur seems just a little hesitant to talk about this, but then on a certain level he does trust Eames.]

She's more sensitive than people think.

[She might think it's funny. Or she might get sad, especially after her fight with Bond]

[ eames doesn't reply immediately. as much as he prides himself on being able to observe, to unravel people and see what makes them tick, there is always that moment of doubt. he is not infallible.

perhaps arthur sees things eames hasn't. eames has, after all, not been here half as long. ]

And you want to spare her any unnecessary stress.

[Zatanna isn't easy to get to know. Arthur knows her, and sometimes even he has doubts. But Arthur knows that Eames knows him, and knows that sometimes there are things that he can pick up in his dedicated, vaguely anal way]

That would be ideal.

[There's an implication, that Arthur lets Eames be around her, meaning that Arthur trusts him not to fuck it up with her]

[ it's always slightly unsettling, that moment when the trust arthur has in him is acknowledged. eames lets the silence hang for a moment before moving to sit down on the floor (he'll have to dry clean this dress now) and fold his hands neatly in his lap.

(anyone looking at him would never guess at what lay beneath the forgery) ]

Loyalty is one of your more admirable qualities, Arthur.

[Arthur is quiet for a moment before he clears his throat]

Thank you, Eames.

Considering that, I suppose I can forgo my plans for retaliation.

[ although eames was still turning that moment over in his head. his best forgery, suddenly dragged into this mess of public scrutiny. it was only five people, but still. five people eames did not know.

he'd have to find someone else's skin to wear. ]

[He's rolling his eyes. With his voice]

You act as if you haven't done worse to me.

[ such skill. ]

Always with the expectation of retaliation from your end, pet.

If I had known that I would have forced you to make out with me during that annoying job in Prague.

[Clearly this is Arthur's solution to all problems where people are stalking him]

Oh, but that would have been so forward. I'd only just met you. What sort of man do you think I am?

[ best solution. ]

One who needs someone to be assertive. Do you think they've moved yet?

[Head against the wall. Actually this has been his only real break the whole con so maybe this isn't so bad]

Assertive is one word for it.

[ eames tilts his head, listening. it sounds like just the natural hustle and bustle, but.

he'd have to change. sean connery was the best alternative, and eames was sure james would have an amusing reaction to that. ]

We could always wave a white flag and see.

Do you have another forge?

[Sigh. Eames.]

Several. Clothing is the tricky part.

[ he hasn't figured out how to manage the clothes yet. it's a shortcoming. ]

Or you could slip out and I'll simply wait for the riot to die down before making my exit.

[He inclines his head in agreement, and out he slips]
