WHO: Wheatley and Bakura
WHERE: A random junkyard of their choosing
WHEN: Naow
WARNINGS: PORTALS. And PHYSIIIIICS. And probably someone or something hitting someone or something at terminal velocity.
SUMMARY: Wheatley has a portal gun. Bakura is far more charitable than he should be. SCIENCE HAPPENS.
FORMAT: Logs
The ride on the subway had been an... interesting trip. For both of them. The former core had never even been on a subway before. The closest he'd ever come to fast transportation had been the transportation tubes in Aperture, so getting on the subway was about as close to a theme park ride as he'd ever been. ... Well, he had a good time, at least. There was no accounting for how awkward it might have been for Bakura. Sitting next to the only guy on the subway who had his face plastered to the window like an excitable dog, chattering non-stop about how awesome the subway was.
It was probably for the best that they were getting off now. Maybe he'd be too tired later to bother with all of this nonsense. At least Wheatley didn't seem half as paniced as he had been when he first boarded the subway, the nervous energy replaced with a more confident burst of excitement.
"That was amazing! Did you see that? I didn't think they made something that went that fast! I mean... out of the facility. And not... on a motor bike. But still! And it goes for miles! All over the city! Granted, yes, not... not exactly to the destination we wanted. I mean, nothing wrong with walking here, but it would have been great if we could have just... you know, ridden it all the way there. That would have been incredible."
He seemed perfectly oblivious to any stares he was getting, fiddling with the glasses on his face as he paused and waited for Bakura right outside the station. "We goin' on that again? To get back? Not talking one of those cars home or... or the bus? Because I'd really like to ride that again. If it is at all possible. I mean.. we... we don't have to, of course. Entirely up to you but... Oh that was just so much fun!"
The only person in the universe to be excited by the subway.

"Yeah, we're going back the same way we came," Bakura assured with a smile as they started to walk down the road. "And they have ones that go faster, just not here. Back home, the Shinkansen can go up to 300 km an hour!"
The area around them swiftly shifted to a more rundown look, a lot of houses that had been damaged from one City disaster or another, lawns littered with "for sale" signs and rather light traffic for a City block. There was oddly little sign of the usual decay that came in such an area. Only minor graffiti, very few broken or boarded up windows. It'd been one of the areas that the great otaku invasion (Bakura had already forgotten the name they had used for themselves) had briefly revitalized, some of the leftovers from the army still lingering. He'd gotten more familiar with the area after the invasion, the few members of the LARPing party sometimes inviting him over for some gaming time.
He slowed to a stop as they reached a boarded up elementary school, expression becoming unreadable a long moment before he pushed open the gate and headed for the playground. "Back here," he nodded. "There's a good fenced in area over here, it should help catch anything that escapes, as long as it's not going too fast!"

He almost wanted to just hop back on it right now and forget all about the portal device... but to be honest... he had kind of been looking forward to testing the gun out. Chell had made it look so easy, after all. How hard could it be for him to use it?
Wheatley was momentary distracted by the appearance of this part of the city. Odd... he didn't think any part of it would look so... dilapidated in comparison. What had happened here anyway? Why hadn't anyone come to fix it yet? Or at least make it look a little less unloved.
"Huh? Wha?" Oh! A place to go! The android didn't pick up on Bakura's change of expression, instead becoming excited once more to see a place that would do for a proper testing ground. "Brilliant! You're fantastic, you know that? This is gonna be great, I promise, you'll just love what this thing can do." He was already headed straight to there, looking for said fenced in area, the arm with the portal gun already starting to shift and rearrange into the device.

But it's more like little portable holes that you can shoot things through."
Ah, here they were! And he was more than happy to show just what he meant too!
"Alright, here. See, watch!" He aimed the gun, shooting a beam of blue light at a near by wall. VOOP! Blue portal.
"And..." He tentatively aimed the gun at his feet... VOOP-
"AUGH!"
THUMP
... Well, thankfully, the blue portal was only a few inches from the ground. Out and over went Wheatley, landing a little LESS than gracefully on his ass.
"Nngt...! She made this... look a whole lot easier, of course."
no subject
And a slight startled pause as Wheatley went tumbling. "You all right?" he asked, heading over to help his excitable friend to his feet.
no subject
"But... yeah! I guess, if you um... if you put it like that, yeah! Just like a bridge. With no floor. That you have to time. I'm pretty sure it involves a lot of timing.
Oh! And, if you jump from high up into one, you'll go shooting out just as fast as you went in. You can jump pretty far with this. I mean... really really far. Wanna see?"
no subject
There was a bit of a hesitant look at the offer. "...You sure you'll be all right trying something like that if you're not used to it yet?"
no subject
I've seen a professional use this, I know how to work it, I swear."
Wheatley, on the other hand, seemed absolutely sure.
"Yeah! 'Course I'll be alright. Not a problem at all. I won't go too far, I promise. Here, watch."
VOOP! The blue portal was aimed higher this time, a good ten feet or so off the ground.
"Right... just have to find something... a little higher to jump off of... hmm... You got any suggestions?"
no subject
Bakura gave a doubtful look, but glanced over at the playground. "You could try the top of the slide, maybe?"
no subject
"I bet you anything she could get to the top of that, no stairs, no climbing, with this gun, in... like a matter of seconds. Just BAM! At the top, using this thing. And then she could just... jump off the side, and be on the other side of the city. Blink of an eye. No subway, no motor bikes. And she was absolutely brilliant too. Really! Really, very, very smart young woman. You know for... being brain damaged and all. She was brilliant. But yeah! Absolutely a professional."
Well, over to the slide he was going, practically in a giddy sprint as he clambered up the slide, stood at the top.... and promptly jumped off.
VOOP!
And-
"GAAH!" Well, one could hardly help the scream of terror, really. By the time Wheatley had gone shooting out the blue portal, he was already going at a pretty impressive speed. Had anyone ELSE attempted this, they might be looking at some serious head injuries...
SCRRRRRRRRRCCCCH!
... Oh, he landed on his feet this time... oddly enough sending a small shower of sparks behind him as he skidded to a halt..
"... L... Like that!"
no subject
Hello sparks. Right, Wheatley was a robot, like--
Never mind that, make sure he's all right!
"You okay?" Bakura asked, heading over.
no subject
I'm fine! Again.. fine! Just fine! ... I didn't... I didn't really go as far as I had hoped I would-
Oh! But, yeah, brain damage. She was... kind of in extended relaxation for... quite a lot longer than what is normally um... good for the human brain. She was mute, for one. Could not say a word. Apparently she thinks talk means jump and apple means hop. But that's okay, she... she was really, really good at what she did, anyway."
He scuffed his feet a bit, sighing. "Good thing about those long fall boots though, eh?" No, he didn't even know he didn't tell Bakura about those... he was too bust trotting right back over to the slide, looking for some place higher to put the portal.
"Right! So... This is the last place that... I'm gonna put it, for now, alright? I want to show you, the higher the place you jump from, the further you can go! It'll be fine, I got braces on m'legs everything will be perfect."
no subject
Just to be on the safe side, he cast a shield around Wheatley as well. Added cushioning for that next fall...
no subject
Oh, so he did find a higher place to climb. Seems like the play tower there was a good bit higher than the slide. Up to the top of that, eye balling the distance.
"Right! I think I can reach the wall over there! That one!" He gestured at it, while paying much more attention to the ground under him.
"It'll be easy! And... the last one, I promise!"
This was probably not one of his better ideas. Indeed, out of all the bad ones? This one was even worse.
And- VOOP-
...
Well, it was a good thing no one was using that school.
Because that's a pretty nice looking HOLE IN THE WALL. With one extremely dazed, flickering android mysteriously quiet for once
no subject
Bakura sprinted over, expression a mask of worry. "Are you okay?!"
no subject
Well, for the moment, the hologram was done, the Aperture white android left blinking and dazed in a pile of bricks. It was almost like it had been cut out of a Saturday morning cartoon, really.
"... Right I... don't think that... was a good plan. Looking... looking back on that. Retrospectively, not really um... my best idea. Ever. It could have... gone better."
Well at least he could still talk, and all his limbs certainly looked pretty well attached.
... An eye was blacked out and sparking a bit though, but he hardly seemed bothered by that for the moment.
"Nothin' went hitting you did it? I dunno those bricks are kinda... crumbly a bit."
no subject
Unless...
He closed his eyes in concentration, holding out one hand towards the android. Like healing, but for machinery.... could he...?
His hand started to glow with a soft white light as he slowly passed it in a slow circle, light hovering faintly in the air behind before he pushed in the center of it, sending it out towards Wheatley.
"Repair..." he whispered the name of the spell, focusing on his want to help his friend.
no subject
Oh well.
"Oh good! Good, I didn't want you uh... getting clocked with a brick or anything like that. I have to say that I don't think you'd be um... as repairable as me if you were hit in the face by masonry. Just saying that. And I think I shorted out an optic here... Yes, yes, that did it, that's what I did- what are you...?"
Light what? Light? LIGHT COMING AT HIM OH GOD WHAT DO-
"Oi! Oi whatareyoudoing?!" Oh GOD was it radiation?! Well he could take radiation WHAT ON EARTH WAS GOING-
oh.
The eye remained blackened, but the dented, sparking metal and the scratched and cracked glass almost immediately smoothed and slid back together. Even the sparking stopped.
"... Well I'll be... What'd you do? What on earth was that?" Tapping his finger curiously against the blind but now undamaged optic, impressed despite the lingering internal complications.
no subject
...
The smile dimmed a little, but this wasn't the place for mourning, so he pushed it aside and focused.
"It was a variation on how I cast a healing spell! Rather than focusing on reaching out and getting the body to repair itself rapidly, I tried doing it more like a restore spell, bringing it back to how it was before!"
He paused, noting the deadened eye. "Though it looks like it wasn't quite strong enough... But it's not sparking any longer!" Since the sparking was the worrying part. Like bleeding for robots, right?
