WARNINGS: Nada. Except, perhaps, the stink of disappointment.
SUMMARY: Broken hearts, copious amounts of ice cream consumption, and Eames playing comforter? This will not end well.
FORMAT: FOREVER ACTION.

[She is, as stated, in the bathroom. With what's left of the mint chip ice cream, since the rocky road is all gone.

She helpfully unlocks the door for Eames.]

[ eames could have picked the lock, but no matter.

also, he is so ridiculously displeased by this. it's sloppy. he doesn't hold ariadne to the same standard as he does arthur, but still. sloppy.

for eames, there is only business, and things that will hurt his business, or hurt him eventutally, and this is one of those things. and he's fairly certain that laying it out for ariadne in those terms will end poorly.

Ariadne, we do have a kitchen.

[She's just sort of leaning against the vanity, pouting a little.] I know. But I felt stupid and wanted to be alone for a little while. And maybe not have to look at Arthur for a few days.

[ there's a pause. ]

I have another flat. If you'd prefer Han's company, I would be happy to take you there.

[ han is sulking too. they'd make excellent company for each other, clearly.. ]

You know Han? [She raises her eyebrows a little.] Of course you do.

But I don't think that would work. I don't think he likes me much, for some reason, and I'm not in the mood to put up with it. I'll be fine, I just need to... stop being stupid.

Mr. Costume and I met on the way in, so to speak.

[ oh good progress. ]

Apparently we'll need more ice cream then.

[Ariadne always bounces back quickly. But she's still going to take a moment or two for the pity-party.]

He took me to Barcelona! He found out my measurements to buy me a dress! And then he acted surprised when I thought he was interested in me!

Darling.

[ eames whole internal monologue is just (fuu)!!! why is this his life why. ]

You understand, it simply doesn't occur to him not to do those things.

[She sighs into her tub of ice cream.] It's just... hardwired into him to be a charming, dashing gentleman, is what you mean?

Something like that, yes.

[ a pause. ]

It's complicated, as these things ever are.

And I don't suppose you'll explain it to me, either. [She wrinkles her nose up at him, because, criminals. Always so secretive.]

No, I shan't.

[ to be fair, eames was a secretive fucker even before he was a criminal. ]

It's not that I don't understand it, in theory, it's just that... I think there's a line here and none of you seem to know where it is. And sometimes, that can cause as many problems as it avoids.

Have you considered that the line you're speaking of varies? In our business, the lines simply aren't in the same spot.

[ nevermind that arthur probably didn't even know the line existed..... ]

I never said it didn't.

What I am saying, is that you and Arthur need to know where the line is, and let me know where it is, too. That's all. [She frowns into her ice cream.] I like you guys, and I know what you are. And don't think you need to protect me or anything like that.

It's less a need and more of a choice, really.

[ there are few people who eames considers worth the energy to look after. ]

And I shall keep that in mind, should the occasion ever arise.

I'm flattered. I think.

But that still doesn't mean I like it.

[She sighs into her ice cream carton.] I need a job.

A job you can put on a resume or otherwise?

Oh, I've got a couple of resume-builders in the works.

I need something else.

Something in my line of work.

Yeah. I need to build something impossible again.

It so happens I'm looking for a job. I'll try to find something that requires impossible structures.
