[ When all is said and done, the place really does clean up pretty nicely. No visible cluttery mess aside from that half-assembled Christmas tree in the corner of the living room, and there’s appropriate mood music on in the background. Make yourself at home and grab some food before it’s gone. ]

[Max just grins. She can deal with hyperactive. The question, on the other hand, is kind of complicated to answer. She decides to go for the white lie.]

Dick and Tim. [There's a short pause as she tries to decide whether she could say more safely.] In a complicated alternate timeline way.

Oh those are the best. We've had... [A little pause as she thinks about it.] Future alternate timeline Batman, Future alternate timeline Huntress, Future Alternate timeline old ba-

[She cuts herself off and frowns for a sec. Oh right. Secret identities. Crud.]

Old...bruce wayne...guy. Who is completely unrelated to all of those other people.

[Good recovery, or BEST recovery?]

Wow. [She doesn't feel quite so awkward suddenly.] Wait, there was an old Bruce Wayne here? [Her Bruce? She sounds almost wistful.] I wonder if he was from my timeline.

[She's just going to valiantly ignore Charlie's secret identities slip up and let her have her awesome recovery.]

[Charlie looks rather grateful about that.]

I didn't really talk to him. Just saw him around and stuff, he wasn't here very long. [She shrugs.] That happens all the time. People turn up but only for like, a week or sometimes a month.

Or they'll be here and gone in days.

[She is, however, putting two and two together and realizing that Charlie knows Batfamily secret identities, which indicates she's Batfamily too. There just keep being more of them.]

That's got to weird to deal with. How long have you been around here?

[To be fair, Charlie doesn't make it hard.]

Like, a year and a half? Or a year and seven months, I'm...not sure. Something around that, anyway. [She gives a little shrug.]

Been here the whole time, too. People pop in and out a lot but not me.

[Nope, not really.]

Oh wow. That's. [Making her wish she was of legal drinking age.] A really long time. Wow. But there's people from your universe here, right?

Oh yeah, a bunch of 'em are. This would be crazy worse if they weren't.

[Charlie was pretty sure she would've adapted either way, it was what she did, but showing up and having Babs turn up on her phone had made it a lot easier.]

...Anybody for you?

Oh. Uh, no, it's just me. Apparently my best friend was here for a while before I showed up, but not anymore.

Still. There's people I sort of know back home who are here. In different timelines and universes, but still.

Well, people that leave tend to come back so he might show up again!

[That had become one of Charlie's mantras, honestly. She had to believe it because so many people she cared about had left.]

...That kinda sucks though, huh? I mean...you know them but they don't know you.

That would be pretty cool. [She likes Charlie's optimism.]

It's... confusing. And complicated. But then most things are here, I guess. I'm dealing with it.

You'll get used to it! Or you'll go home. So either way is kind of a win, huh?

[Charlie didn't actually want to go home, at this point, but she knew most people did.]

When you look at it like that, I guess it is. [Optimism is catching. Max is grinning now.]

So what do you do here? Go to school, or do you have a job or something?

I go to Xavier's, that's where most of the import kids go I think, I'm a senior. [Man that still felt weird to say.] And I've got ...kind of a job, I think, I'm not sure.

Plus I do, uh...some other stuff...

[Superheroing was such a hard job to explain. She paused, looking a bit distant for a second, and then fixed the other with a 'look.']

Do you know?

They set up a school for the import kids? Sweet. That's pretty great.

[Max smiles a little mischievously.]

Yeah. I do 'other stuff' sometimes myself.

[Charlie huffs, but it's not a very serious huff.]

That is the most not helpful answer ever.

Well then. [She looks around, just to make sure nobody's nearby she isn't positive is a Batfamily member.] You work a night shift, yeah? Me too.

Okay, cool. Just checking, 'cause...

[She sort of waves her hand around vaguely.]

I think like...most people here know? Kinda? ...Not sure about the girl with the wings...

Yeah, the majority of people here seem to be people I know know about that sort of stuff.

Though there's a few I don't really recognize. Girl with the wings would be one of them.

Her name is...Nill. I think. She's Damian's friend.

[The more Charlie thought about it, the more she was sure it was right.]

And yeah. This is usually a family thing. Well, I say usually, but I mean...usually 'here', in the City. It's actually kind of strange to have guests...

[Damian has friends? She totally didn't just think that, oops.]

Yeah, I never really saw this family as the public, invite-all-the-guests sort. But I'm glad that you're making an exception this time. It's nice to get to meet you all.

I think it's because Dick is doing it and not-

[She paused. Just because the girl seemed to be in the know didn't mean charlie could go around spouting names.]

...Former, stricter people.

Ah. Yeah, well, if you're thinking of the guy I'm thinking of, that seems like a pretty accurate assessment. [She's trying to think of Bruce having Thanksgiving. All she's getting is an error message.]

Yeah...

But we did Christmas last year! I mean, I kinda had to organize like...everything...but we did it! Everybody came!

We had hats.

You managed to organize an entire Christmas for them? I'm really impressed right now, that has got to be pretty difficult.
