WHO: Bakura, Matsuka and Miidi
WHERE: Hell Towers 10th
WHEN: Not long after this thread
WARNINGS: Nope
SUMMARY: Miidi has discovered that she's empathic and isn't happy with it. Bakura brings her to Matsuka's to see if he can help her with keeping her ability manageable.
FORMAT: Para to start, whatever after.

After Miidi had had some puppy therapy and something to eat, she and Bakura headed down the hallway to Matsuka's apartment.

"Jonah-kun, it's me!" Bakura called cheerfully as he knocked, 'Nu-chan giving a upbeat bark from Bakura's arms to announce that he too was there!

A deep WOOF answered the puppy's bark, and when Matsuka opened the door he was bent down (not far) to keep a hand on his dog (http://www.minorvariation.net/pics/11-11-16-00091x.jpg)'s collar, while Mouse - too obedient to bark again or start through the open doorway against his owner's wishes - leaned forward as much as he could manage with his ears perked up and his tail wagging eagerly.

"Ah, sorry. He's usually so quiet, too." Matsuka let out a slightly embarrassed laugh as he said it. "What's going on?" He glanced curiously from Bakura to Midii and back, reading something of the situation almost automatically from Bakura's thoughts. "...you need my help with something?"

For her part, Midii partially hid behind Bakura. A mixture of external shyness--a reflex from her days of training, since shyness always garnered more sympathy--and internal paranoia. Bakura had told her this person might be able to help her...but how had he known that?

Was this another one of those 'powers' things?

She reverted back to her observant nature, allowing Bakura to take the lead in the conversation. Waiting until the right moment to speak.

"I'm not busy," Matsuka assured. He straightened up, letting Mouse be occupied by greeting the puppy with some friendly sniffing, and stepped back from the doorway a bit. "Come in?"

He couldn't help but sense Midii's reservations - a feeling he was very well familiar with - and he offered her a polite, faintly shy smile. "We haven't met before, have we? I'm Jonah Matsuka, and this is Mouse. It's nice to meet you."

She shook her head, stepping out from behind the older boy. Less apprehensive, but still not quite smiling.

"I'm Midii."

"Oh." Matsuka's eyes widened, his expression growing a bit more serious with the rush of understanding that Bakura's words brought. When he looked toward Midii again, it was with no little sympathy. "Then, your power is like mine. That must have been difficult." He could still remember his own empathy awakening, and how much it had terrified him.

"I still can't control it as well as I'd like either," he admitted. "But I've lived with it for long enough that I might be able to help at least a little."

He understood.

Even without these newfound powers, that much was easy enough to tell. Body language had always been a specialty of hers. Discerning even the most subtle of clues from the twitch of an eye or stiffening of the shoulders.

The fact that he treated this seriously, and was honest upfront, helped to ease her worries some. She nodded, lowering her eyes so that he would not see the disappointment in them. Even if he could feel it.

"Is there a way to make it...not hurt?'

Matsuka hesitated a little over his reply, considering it carefully, not wanting to make rash promises he might not be able to keep. "I can't teach you how to block it out completely," he said at last, regretfully, "...since I haven't figured that out myself yet."

He'd begun to think it might simply not be possible, at least not for him. Midii wasn't a Mu, though; he could hope her empathy worked differently in that respect.

"But there are ways to make it so you don't always pick up so much from people around you. Enough so that it won't hurt. I haven't ever tried to teach anyone before, but I'll teach you as much as I can, if you want me to."

She nodded, hopeful while at the same time trying not to think much of it. Even if they had similar powers, there was no way of knowing if any of his advice would be able to help her. But he was her only lead, and at the moment, the only other person who could remotely understand what she was going through.

"...please?"

"Of course." Matsuka put on his best reassuring smile, mind already running ahead, trying to figure out how to put what he knew into words. "Would you like to sit down? It'll help if you can at least start out comfortable... I can make some tea, if you'd like some." A glance toward Bakura and the dogs, and a little more of a smile. "Although you probably already had some at Ryou's."

[ooc: sorry this is so late! had some RL upheaval which distracted me from online things. :( I didn't forget!]

She shook her head, the faintest smile appearing. "No, thank you. I'm fine." It felt like she had spent all day sitting. Much as it might have made her feel more relaxed, she preferred to stand for the moment. "I would rather stand, please. If that's okay."

[[ooc: No worries! Like I tell everyone else, I'm always good with backtags.]]
