A night on the town

[Santo looked down at his wrist to check his watch.

And then realized he wasn't wearing one. In fact, he didn't even own one, did he? They'd all get smashed anyway. Whatever. He was still paranoid about the time while waiting for Rikku to come back from whatever she was off doing before their schedule date night time officially started, and it was getting close. Which meant Santo was getting paranoid.

There's nothing more inconspicuous than a moderately well dressed rock man tilting back and forth on his heels while humming to himself on a street corner.]

Hmm. [Santo rubbed his chin, making the scratching noise of stone on stone as he thought it over.] Well, we've been dating for a couple of years. We should do something new and special, right? [And cheap. He hoped he could think of something cheap.]

[Rikku had long ago gotten used to that sound; it sort of reminded her of the desert, sometimes. Like the way the sand sounded when it was whirling around during a storm. She giggles at him, reaching over to gently flick the side of his rocky face.] What haven't we done, is the question, then.

Good question! We've done food, movies, clubbing, romantic park stuff. [He grins and pokes her side, since that's where they started dating and all.] We could go to a bar and you could get hilariously drunk.

[klutziness]

[She giggles, and then immediately rolls her eyes, side-eyeing him as she slows to a stop at a light.] Uh, remember what happened last time I got "hilariously drunk? [She even does little air quotes with her free hand.]

[Santo laughs

and then immediately remembers the pregnancy "crisis" and everything about it.]

No, I don't remember what happened 'cause it never did and even if it had I know better now!

[She rolls her eyes again, and turns down some street.] Good. You'd better!

I'm smarter now then I was back then.

[He thinks this over, scratching more at his chin. And then he gets an idea.]

Let's go beat up bad guys!

[klutziness]

[She almost slams on the breaks at that, but manages to keep driving. She just... side-eyes him for a second, and then:]

Yeah, okay.

Is that a bad idea? [He's able to actually pick up on cues like this now, and he sounds a lot less sure.] I mean, I figured that I like fighting and you like fighting so that fighting together would be, y'know. Cool.

[klutziness]

[She shakes her head, expression brightening after a moment of mulling.] No, actually, that sounds like a great idea! We just... gotta find some bad guys.

[He switches back to being self-assured, putting his arms behind his head, oh so confident that he just made the best decision ever.] Let's head for the seediest part of the City. Look for boarded up windows and stuff.

[A beat.]

And then later we can go get ice cream.

[Ugh his head is going to sink the suspension on that jeep. I mean. She grins, and starts driving kind of slowly down some side-streets.] Ice cream makes it romantic.

Ice cream makes everything romantic. I dunno how anyone gets laid in your world without it. [Santo starts watching the alleys they pass for a mugging or anything else that looks suspicious with his keen detective senses.]

[klutziness]

[Her eyes are going to stay at the back of her head one day from all this eye-rolling he makes her do.] There is ice cream, Santo. Just not in the desert. [OH LOOK A MUGGING ON THEIR LEFT.]

Why the Hell not? The desert's where you need it the m-[HE SPOTS THAT MUGGING and flails an arm around to get Rikku's attention.] Stop the jeep! We got something!

[klutziness]

[She slams on the breaks before she can come up with a witty retort. Rikku leans over towards his side of the jeep, looking like a creeper.] How many of 'em are there?!

[Santo leaned as well, which was also probably not good for the jeep.] I dunno, looks like four guys. Dunno how armed they are. Damnit, I should have brought binoculars. [Because that's what you bring on dates.]

[The jeep does, in fact, rock a bit, but Rikku is actually too excited to notice. She waves her hand at him, throws the car in park, and starts to get out.] C'mon, let's go!

Hell yes! [Santo grins, opening the door and climbing out, hustling to get in front of Rikku.] Just in case they have guns I'll go first, okay?

[klutziness]

[She wants to say that she'd be fine, but guns are kind of a big deal. So she allows it, kind of hiding behind him but still poking her head out so she can see.] Then lead the way.

I'm the best leader.

[So Santo does indeed lead the He notes the lady they're mugging isn't bad looking so this is-oh hey one of the guys notices him and shoots him.]

Ow, hey! Dick move!

[So Santo quickly headbutts him in the face.

Yeah, he's not getting up again for a while.]

[Rikku learned a long time ago not to worry about Santo getting shot, so as soon as the gun goes off, she's moving out from behind him to grab another guy by the shoulders, wink at him, and then knee him in the gut.]

[Santo grabs one of the remaining muggers as he flees, yanking him down to the ground by the back of his jacket with enough force to knock the poor bastard out. Which leaves one more running criminal.

He knows she'll take care of it without saying anything, because that's how awesome they are.]

[She does, in fact, dash after him, literally jumping at his back. She grabs his shoulders once again, and plants her feet in the middle of his back, using her momentum to send him to the ground face-first.]

Nice one, honey. [Santo gives a thumbs up - and kicks one of the muggers while he's down, before going to check on their rescuee.

Who promptly freaks out as a giant rock man approaches her.]

Thanks, babe. [Rikku brushes her hands on her pants, and then trots towards the frightened woman. She smiles, trying to look as comforting as possible.] Hey now, don't you worry, he's one of the good guys. He isn't nearly as scary as he looks. You okay, lady?
