[ terezi had crashed shortly after they returned from school. she still wasn't used to the daylight hours, and despite every assurance kanaya could possibly give, still wasn't comfortable under the sun. she only stayed up to keep an eye on kanaya, but it was clear that it was wearing on her. kanaya had tucked her in with her scalemates before sneaking out herself.

she finds herself stepping along the edges of the rooftops, leaping across the walls, dancing across the city as though it was her own personal studio. it helps to clear her head, but also recalls the last time she did this, reminds her of her need. it isn't as easy this time, though, she knows better.

but a resolution not to take doesn't erase the strength of her want. she slides down a fire escape, kicks against the wall, and softly lands in the alley below. she's not sure how she'll manage the thirst for now, but the romance of the hunt is certainly tempting as she sees the passersby on the sidewalk. she can't stay here long, she'll have to keep moving if she wants her thoughts to keep from settling on the subject too strongly. ]

[Laura didn't seem terribly impressed with that indecisive answer. She crosses her arms.]

Either you are or you aren't. [Her tone of voice seems to imply she didn't think either answer was wrong.]

Well, th-the desire is there, at least. [ she pauses, looking at her shoes and trying to decide how to phrase it from here ] But I'm...still attempting to decide where it should be directed.

[girlverine]

Can you do it without permenantly injuring someone?

[glowsferatu]

Well, I don't believe I've caused permanent injury through the process previously, aside, perhaps, from some minor scarring. The side effects of being bitten aren't nearly so drastic as the equivalent from your own folklore.

[girlverine]

[Another moment of silent consideration. She couldn't actually let Kanaya just...bite some random criminal, could she? Granted, the drug dealer probably deserved it, but as far as 'being a hero' and 'not a horrible assassin' went, that didn't seem to rate.]

I can't let you bite him.

[ oh god, get out of her head laura ]

No, I...um, didn't expect you would be able to.

[girlverine]

[Laura considers for a moment.]

We should leave here. [A little pause as she discards the cell phone without calling 911. Better safe than sorry at the moment.]

What do you usually do?

[ kanaya follows after laura, staring at the ground and feeling like an idiot for this whole ordeal ]

Tank Girl previously provided me a regular supply, but she's no longer present on this timeline, and my stock has run inconveniently dry. I...hadn't coordinated any sort of replacement just yet.

[girlverine]

[Laura had only spoken to Tank girl rarely, but it somehow didn't surprise her that the strange woman had been supplying Kanaya with blood.]

And now you need more on short term with no plan.

[She didn't mean to sound disapproving...]

[ kanaya ends up getting a little short with her at that ]

Well, it isn't a terribly simple affliction to plan for!

[Laura frowns faintly at that. Out of the alley and down the street they want, lookingly probably like two perfectly normal teenagers.]

I did not- [A faint, frustrated huff.] It doesn't matter. I offered to help you once, when you first told me about this.

[ aside from the fact that one of them is growing brightly, and only more so ow. ]

Well, I wouldn't like to present an inconvenience.

[girlverine]

[Laura shrugged.]

I heal. It would not actually be an inconvenience. And it would keep you from needing to hunt people.

As someone with similar abilities of self-repair, I can quite assuredly state that the initial injury can present a great deal of unpleasantness.

[girlverine]

[Laura shrugs at that, holding up a hand. For a moment her claws pop out, just a few inches, and then slip back into her skin. The two cuts between her knuckles linger for a few seconds before they're gone, and her hand drops back to her side.]

I doubt it's worse than that. Do you not want me to offer?

It isn't that I feel you should be faulted for offering, it's simply...well, odd for me to accept.

[ should she even be so hesitant to hunt? the process itself wasn't terrible, it was just...closing the deal that was a little weird. this way she gets the job done, but has that whole thing reversed. ]

[girlverine]

[Laura can't fault her for that, really. The idea of 'hunting' someone wasn't strange to her, but drinking their blood at the end of it certainly would be.]

How did it work with Tank Girl?

[glowsferatu]

[ especially when the hunt itself is cut out entirely, and the effect that would have on the propagation of brighter feelings ]

She would the blood indirectly. My fangs never penetrated her flesh.

[girlverine]

[That made sense, really.]

Is that how you prefer to do it?

[glowsferatu]

Well, I... [ don't dislike the hunt itself, she doesn't say. it can be quite thrilling, but difficult to maintain in this setting without consequence. ] ...I suspect it may be the most pragmatic method.

[girlverine]

[Laura shifted faintly as she walked to watch the younger teen, her green eyes slightly narrowed as if she were trying to puzzle her out just by pure staring power.]

That's not an answer.

[glowsferatu]

Isn't it? I could've sworn it was phrased specifically to fit that criteria.

[ on a technicality. even if it still avoided any of her own thoughts on the matter. ]

[Laura was still for a moment before she made a faintly annoyed sound and looked away again.]

Fine. If you really do want assistance, whatever form, I will help you. If you wish to do what Tank girl was doing, it will take time to find materials. What will you do in the short term?
