[ Angelica had always liked dogs. There was something about their canine loyalty, their vicious potential. Their sharp teeth, maybe. There was so much potential. They could take so much more than the fragile human babies. A week or two was all it had taken-- intensive work, yes, but worth every moment. The small, whimpering puppies she had adopted were scarcely recognizable. She had taken a weak creature and made it strong. Of course, it wasn't perfect. Prototypes so very rarely were. But they were large and strong, easily the size of a tiger and hardier than machines.

She only needed to tell them where to go. And like good dogs, they obeyed.

It was such a nice day. The four dog-monsters arrived at the Xavier Institute just in time to catch some of the students outside. ]

[ Kurt makes a habit of teleporting about to make sure class transitions and home preparations are going smoothly. He's watching the lawn from the rooftop when a movement catches his eye, and there's a sudden panic before he can even make out what's barreling over. In that instant, he teleports to the ground.

This, he can tell, is not a good thing. ]

Inside immediately!

[ One barked order before he starts yanking every child withing reach to him to be teleported into the building. That, and various calls of: ]

Assistance, please!

[Angelica was just leading a group of students toward the front door for dismissal when she heard the panicked screams and was nearly knocked over by a herd of students running back into the building. Catching her balance again, she ushers children into the nearest open classroom, shutting the door tight behind the gathered group as she darts back into the hall in time to see a plume of pinkish smoke.]

Kurt? What's going on? What's happening?

[themisfit]

Not entirely sure. [ He releases the students that he has, mind trying to work on an explanation as well as the next move. ] Some sort of creature-- Dogs? Very large, though. They are here.

[ Best move, best move... He's not the most offensive fighter. ] I will assure the lawn is clear, that the students are inside, and... Find who I can, for the fighting. Our guests are not kindly.

[radiantly]

Right. Get as many as you can inside.

[She urges them through an open classroom door.]

If you can get a count on them, I can use my powers against the animals.

[Not a pleasant thought, but she'll do what she has to to save the children.]

[ There's a small frown, but without an answer he teleports. Within a few seconds, he returns with three children who recover from their trip and scramble to where they've learned where to go in these situations. ]

Four, large and fast. I have a few more trips, and then I will be along to help you.

[radiantly]

[Angelica nods before making a run for the door in a burst of gold and red. Once outside, she takes to the air, hovering over the lawn to get a clear shot on one of the dogs.]

I'm so sorry, poochie.

[And with that, she begins concentrating microwave energy at the animal, hoping this will distract the other dogs enough to allow Kurt a chance to rescue others.]

[Calvin needed no further prompting whatsoever to belt it into the building. This was his third Institute attack, and he was getting fed up with them.]

What's happening?!

Difficult to say. Creatures. Bad ones.

[ Kurt catches Calvin inside the building, between teleports. ]

Stay safely inside. Assure your fellows that all will be well.

[Calvin stares out a window at those tiger-sized slavering pooches.]

Are you sure? People keep telling me I'm a lousy liar.

You will only improve with practice.

[ A+ advice, right there. He reaches out to guide Calvin away from the window. ]

Do not stand by the windows. Just... To the Danger Room, please, as in our safety drills.

[The kid duly moves away from the windows before anything bad can come through them. He still needs to say something as he runs off though:]

Have you ever noticed that sending people to the Danger room for safety is kind of counter-intuitive?

It is just the name, and there are safety protocols.

[ What a time to be a smart-butt, Calvin. ]

Okay. Be careful, Mister Wagner!

[Calvin just feels the need to be concerned to make up for the smartness. On some level, he knows this is serious. He runs off to the Danger Room without another word.]

[ One of the nice things about the school here was that it didn't get attacked by random, killer monsters every five minutes like at home.

Apparently that changed today.

Julian really hates dogs. He hates normal dogs, never mind these monsters. ]

Where the hell did these things come from?! Get away from me!

[ He doesn't waste time in attacking them. He aims a telekinetic blast at one, rebuffing it, and raises a shield in front of a couple of younger kids. He'll try to cover them while they run inside. ]

[ oh man oh man those are totally monsters. Monster spots Julian who actually appeared to be DOING something, and scurried over, a mass of black darkness.

Hey! Oh my gosh, are you okay?

[ Julian glances down, confused at first, but then recognizing the voice.

And then he registers that this is that Monster kid, and why is he out here putting himself in danger like this?! ]

They won't get past my shield. I'm good. What are you doing?! Get where it's safe!

Huh? Oh, uh, I guess they're kinda scary, but can't I, y'know, help?

What? [ Julian looks at him again. He's hardly gonna tell someone they can't fight because they're a kid. He gets enough of that crap himself. ] ...Help how, you got some anti-evil puppydog powers I don't know about?

Uhm, maybe? Oh, oh, maybe they're scared of the dark!

Maybe. How dark can you make it? Can you blind them?

Well I can't really control it that much... um, maybe I could walk over to them and they can get lost in it?

[ That plan sounds a lot like it might involve Monster getting eaten. Julian scowls. ]

What if they attack you?!

I’ll come with you. If you stay close I can shield you.

I think i'll be okay! I can totally take care of myself.

[ Monster. ]

What if they eat you?!

Hey! I'm the person who eats things!

And you're a kid! [ Whatever. ] I'm coming with you.

[ Julian looks back at the dogs. ]

Fine, it’s your freaking funeral. We need to stop them.

[ He stops shielding for a second to aim a telekinetic blow at one that he thinks is getting too near the building. Then the shield is back. ]

[Sofia was more of a cat person. They were friendlier and tended to stay in their own territory. These dogs were unnaturally large and they were freaking some of the kids out. Sofia left the school building at a run and went out to help.]

[Calvin is huddling with the other students in the Danger Room, which despite the name is the safest place in the school. He's scared and sitting off by himself. Why does the school have to get attacked?!]
