WHO:  Sherlock Holmes and OPEN
WHERE: Sherlock's lab at Rossum
WHEN: Uh lots of different times in the last week up until a couple days from now
WARNINGS: powers on display...? Sherlock being a dick. probably some violence and dead bodies.
SUMMARY: Follow up to this post, Sherlock is running some tests
FORMAT: Whatever you want, bbs.

Sherlock had made very sure he was going to be very, very busy, but he was well prepared. He'd outfitted his lab with as much equipment as he could possibly think to need, and even managed to find some extra space for the more - well - explosive tests.

All he had to do was wait for the participants to arrive.

Ah, and make sure he had plenty of cash on hand.

[Tag in with the time of your test, and make sure to mention if you want it just one on one, or if anyone else is invited!]

She took the canvas, bending her head at the neck and beginning to fasten it to cover both her eye and the eye patch. Easier than trying to sling it over only the eye that needed it, anyway. "Surprise me."

"That will work, yes. A direct attack is more effective."

When she finished with the blindfold, she didn't turn towards the sound of his voice, not did her hands resume their rest behind her back. They hung, idle at her sides.

She wouldn't have to reach for that power; she didn't even need to know when he would attack.

His attack hit a target, but much sooner than he would have anticipated -- and quite a distance from his true mark. It happened very quickly: a glow of red along her right arm, and a sound like wind chimes, and with only that prompting Ruka became unreachable.

In simplest terms, it was a bubble. A perfect-looking sphere, about six feet in diameter, almost completely translucent save for the sheen of red. Around its perimeter where the curve arced and multiplied in depth, the red became more vibrant, giving off an eerie light. The surface was unyielding, but did not seem solid.

The only flinching Ruka did was in the fingers of her right hand, like a spasm of pain, but already it had relaxed. The same glow as the sphere was alight on that arm, burning steady.

The structure did not yield to his touch, gentle though it was in comparison to the harpoon. Warm, and without any sort of texture, it was almost like touching solid steam. Ruka had flinched before, but showed no signs noticing the closer examination.

Between the light of the bubble, the light of her arm, and the fabric of her sleeve, the unique shape of the glow emanating from her body was hard to distinguish, but there was a design there.

She turns her head a little, not to see Sherlock, but so she's not talking in the complete opposite direction. "Until the 'danger' passes, or I force it down."

Her hand moves to cover the glow on her arm, squeezing, but neither it nor the bubble flicker or weaken. "If there are others around me, it activates as large as necessary to protect all of them. If I were on the ground, it would be smaller. Since I would take up less room, after all."

"It's not flawless." The words didn't carry any more weight than anything else she's said this evening, but as the bubble vanished into nothing and the glow of her arm died away, she turned to face Sherlock. She couldn't do it in profile alone -- not with her limited peripheral vision.

Of course, Sherlock had never known Ruka before she lost her eye, and unless he'd dug far, far back into the Network archives, he did not truly know the difference it made.

But even without any obvious or subtle indicators to her eye, her meaning was clear: she wouldn't look like this if her powers were without flaw.
