Work was going pretty well. Unexpectedly well, if she was being honest. Yeah, Nygma was demanding and difficult, and Andy had disappeared just as she'd started getting some ideas, and half the time she still wasn't entirely certain what on earth she was doing here or why anyone had thought she was the right person for this job in particular. But she was, she thought, making some progress. Paperwork was starting to make sense now, instead of her instinctual reaction being to set it on fire. Today, however. Today was not good.

If there was a list of things she absolutely definitely should not do so that she could retain some semblance of dignity in this job for longer than two weeks - well.

Breaking out into song in the middle of the afternoon was at the top of that hypothetical list.

Not even the Beatles. Not even the somewhat appropriate to her current work 'We Can Work It Out'. She froze in the middle of the hallway as the last notes dwindled away, her mysterious back up crooners blinking as they looked around in confusion. Oh no. Oh no. 


May 24-31st, nighttime

Patrolling was a constant. (Half a year now. Weird feeling.) She tried to be on the streets by eleven, and generally stayed there until around two or three, whenever things started slowing down. It meant that she was never awake more than half an hour before she needed to be at work and she generally slept for an hour or two when she got back in the evening, but she could live with that. (Another thing to explain to Midii somehow.)

She might not be the most qualified Bat, but she was doing a good job.



May 26th-27th, daytime

The move was coming up fast. Faster than she'd expected, actually, and she woke up on Saturday, looked at her mess of an apartment with its tools and broken half-fixed machines and clothes scattered everywhere and sighed.

So, packing.

She would probably need to spend all her free time this weekend on it. She sure wasn't going to get any of it done during the week, between Work and Other Work and checking on Midii and Research.

Maybe she'd order pizza and stick on some really stupid movies and see if she could blitz her way through most of it.

_{( Patrol wasn’t necessarily a constant for Donna. Sure, she kept up with regular heroing activities in the City, but she’d never been the type to have a strict schedule and sweeping ground. That wasn’t strictly a Bat activity, but they definitely did it best. Nevertheless, tonight she’s flying low between the skyscrapers, eyes on the ground. There’s been a minimal amount of activity, and she’s thinking of turning in when she spots something out of the corner of her eye. She knew the look of the costume, but couldn’t recognize the person, and that was enough to keep her curious. She knew Dick was doing his best to keep track of the many extended family members he’d acquired in the City, but there was no reason someone else couldn’t say hi, too. So she flew down, one hand raised in greeting. )}

[ She looked up from ziptieing a thugs' hands and blinked. She didn't think she recognized this particular hero, which wasn't all too unusual in the City but still worth a momentary pause. ]

Nothing too catastrophic, so I can't complain.

You know, I recognize the symbol, but not you specifically. What should I call you?

[ Someone who knew the Batsymbol, and perhaps other Bats, then. Max finished sending a message to the police and then stood up fully. ]

Ah, I heard there were two of you. _{( That's said with an approving look. Donna will never say no to more lady heroines. )}

My name's Donna. But I suppose my most recognizable codename was Wonder Girl.

Yes. [ Despite the approval in Donna's voice, Max is a little closed off. Not her favorite topic. ]

Right. [ She doesn't actually recognize the codename at all, but she prefers not to talk about the differences between her universe and others. It makes linking identities too easy. ] Of course. How are you?

Aside from looking for injustice to fight and finding petty burglary instead? Pretty well.

It looks like you're an old pro at this, though.

[ There's a momentary swell of pride at that, and her smile is bright. ]

I've been doing it a while. [ Six months totally counts as a while. ] Probably not as long as you, though.

Well, you know what they say about quality versus quantity.

Though I find the practice does help.

The flying thing looks like it would really help.

It definitely has its merits.

Do you follow the Bat pattern, then? No powers before here?

No powers, yup.

Just a cool suit. But it gets the job done.

I wouldn't dare doubt it.

You don't use a codename anymore?

I went through a few of them, over the years... Wonder Girl, Troia, Darkstar... hell, I was even Wonder Woman, for awhile. But sometimes things just don't fit anymore.

Now I'm just... me.

[futurebatwoman]

[ a thoughtful pause, and then she smiles. ]

That actually sounds really nice.

It definitely has it's advantages. But then, the same can be said for the big symbols, right?

[futurebatwoman]

I guess so. They certainly tend to command a certain amount of respect.

Most of the time, at least.

What, are the crooks giving you lip about it?

[futurebatwoman]

The crooks not so much.

But apparently I seem young to be fighting crime.

[titaness]

Well, if you've made the decision to do this, you're probably already more mature than most people ever will be.

It's not something age can really dictate. _{( says co-founder of the teen titans, welp. )}

That's what I think.

It's good to know someone else agrees.

There are more of us than people seem to think. Or at least a decade and a half's worth of Teen Titans have told me so.

Age is just a number, right?

[ She grins. ] I hope sometime the younger heroes in the City do get together. It would be good.
