You won’t take me, you won’t break me,
WHO: The Dependables.
WHERE: Iron Crown, caves on the south side of the island- Dolvanian territory.
WHEN: Forward-dated to early morning on the 1st of August [Dolvanian time].
WARNINGS: Violence, possibly. Scratch that, probably.
SUMMARY: Welcome to the Iron Crown island. The sun is just coming up, the air is clear and windy with a chance of flurries, and the thermostat reads as too damn cold. The team arrives on the island, sets up camp, and conducts reconnaissance of their target. Last-minute plans and problems develop.
FORMAT: Paragraph to start, anything afterward. Two threads here- one for settling into the camp and one for taking a discreet look at the target.
Jack took his first breath of cold Dolvanian air as he felt the effects of Zatanna’s magical teleportation pass over him. In the blink of an eye the team had gone from the East Coast of North America to this desolate rock in the Pacific. It was a hell of a trip, but they had no time to be disoriented.
“Let’s get this place sorted out,” he whispered. “Geddoe, start setting up a camp. We need to do a perimeter sweep to make sure no one’s around, then get the parachutes out to make it look like we airdropped in.” As he talked he was already shucking a heavy black bag off his shoulders and zipping it open, taking out supplies. “Once we’re set, we’ll do an initial recon of the target.”
The mission was on.

The Cave Camp
At least there were no bats.
Open!
As she'd promised Jack, she was practicing the movement of loading and re-loading, popping out the shells. If something ended up jamming, she wanted to be prepared. It was tedious work, and her purple drone hovered next to her to provide her with a more familiar light (but unfortunately little heat).

"Hey Tali, how are you doing?" He asked, rubbing his gloved hands together.

She shrugged her shoulders, putting down the shotgun in favor of warming up her own hands in the mittens she'd brought. "What about you? Get plenty of rest and carbohydrates last night?"

He moved in to whisper, his voice covered by the booming echoes of surf. "Any problems getting that package ready?" 'Package'- the euphemism du jour for the team's electronic fake trail.

"Feeling ready for this?"

She smiled in return, though, even if she was feeling a little drained by the cold.
"What about you?"

The last touch was a wind-breaking screen to be erected closer to the mouth of the cave that would offer them some comfort as well as camoflage, as it was made to look like brambles. Loose rock and rubble was brought over to anchor cables, block lines of sight from outside, and serve as makeshift furniture. Had there been enough living or dead foliage around, Geddoe would have sat down and cobbled together some camp chairs, but he had to make do with what they did have available. Supplies were kept further back inside the cave, away from wind and weather. Lights also had to be kept far behind their screen so as not to reveal their position. The veteran captain stalked around the camp double-checking the preparations to make sure nothing was out of place, sure he covered everything but open to assistance if someone noted something they forgot.

"This is great work, Geddoe," he said as he touched the windbreaker screen. He was sure everyone was going to appreciate the chance to not have wind cutting down on them. "Where did you put the latrines?" Not that Jack ever went to the bathroom anyway...

She was dressed from head to toe in black as befit the mission, but there wasn't enough clothing in the world to keep her from cringing away fro the cold and the damp. And he'd picked a cave. Scathach would have preferred to be almost anywhere else. But it was secret, safe (for the most part), and close to their objective. The redhead sat near the fire, arms wrapped around her legs and chin resting on her knees, doing her best to not look as awful as she felt.]
Re: open.
[The little purple drone hovered next to her, clicking in agreement. She was still sure it was somehow angry at her for not being able to take it with her on the mission, but -- well, it would just have to deal.]

Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I'm just hoping I don't get my first helping of frostbite in this place. The sunburn was bad enough.

Kitty was clad in a black variation of her white ~costume~, which felt slightly odd but still, it was necessary. She was the one closer to the opening of the cave, as she kept an eye on the waves and whatever else might be out there.

"You should go rest up for tonight. Snyway, there's nothing out there. Trust me, I'd see it if there was."

"I'm used to work on little sleep, but I'll get some rest soon anyway." A pause as she looked at Seras. "I'm Kitty."

Reconnaissance
Once the camp was secure, whoever was going to be doing the scouting set off from the caves. The wind was howling and the sky was darkening. Off to the North, the towers of the Iron Crown loomed cold and gray against the sky.

Jack was right with her, moving low across the desolate landscape with a white smock over his gear and a scoped rifle in his arms. It was a short trip on the small island. It didn't take long before the fortress was in full view, with Jack peering at it through the scope from behind a pair of boulders.
"Not much cover between here and there," he whispered into his comm. "When we attack, getting to the wall's going to be tricky."
