It was a good thing Kang had left early. As big as the City was, he still got lost from time to time; that, and the traffic, meant that he arrived at the building only five minutes early rather than the fifteen he was shooting for. He couldn't help glancing around the lobby as soon as he walked in and admiring the design, taking mental notes out of habit. He didn't notice the unoccupied secretary desk at first.

He wasn't sure what was considered appropriate clothing for something like this; he hoped the practical jeans and plain red buttoned shirt he was wearing was alright.

Through his office window, Xanatos had a good view of the entryway. So, when Kang entered, he quickly got up and walked to the lobby, bitterly noting the empty secretary desk as he did so. He really needed to fix that. It was around nine, when he said he would meet with Kang and the man looked like the Kang he talked with on the comms. It didn't take Xanatos long to put two and two together.

"Kang, I presume? Pleasure to meet you. I'm David Xanatos and welcome to Xanatos Enterprises."

"Yes," Kang held out his hand, covered in scars, for a handshake. "You as well. Thank you for meeting with me."

Xanatos noticed those scars. That either meant the man was clumsy or adventurous-hopefully it was the latter. "Not a problem." He smiled at Kang as he shook the man's hand. "First, if you don't mind, I'd like to hear a little about your world. It seems that they're all a bit different from mine back home."

The scars were very localized, mostly centered on the palm and on two of the fingers. The grip was strong and confident, though. "If yours is anything like this one, then mine is vastly different."

"My world is similar to this one in some respects-but trust me, this world is far more interesting than mine." At least, that was what he wanted Kang to believe. He saw no reason to tell the man about the gargoyles-that little truth would come out at the right time, when he wanted it to.

"It seems a lot of the people brought here are from similar worlds. I'd never seen a car, or even heard of anything like guns or electricity, before this city." Kang smiled wryly. "I want to make sure you are fully aware of what you're possibly getting yourself into."

"To be honest, there are some jobs here that don't require knowledge of technology. I'll see if I can hire you for one of those." Kang's lack of knowledge with technology actually was a good point for Xanatos. The less the man knew about technology, the less likely he was to pick up on some of the more dangerous aspects of what he was producing.

"I intend to learn. I'm going to take classes to get a GED, so that I can get a degree in Engineering. That's what I was for most of my life, and what I'm good at. I just need to catch up. I've looked up some of the tools that are used in building construction here, and they don't seem too difficult to use."

He may not remember any of it when he got to go back to Krynn, but damn if he wasn't going to try and make the best of his stay in the City. He was fascinated by the building and bridge designs, too, and he wasn't about to construct anything for anybody (especially humans) that he didn't know what they were or how they would be used.

"Truth be told, they aren't. And, if you have any questions about modern technology or tools, feel free to ask me." He would easily play sponsor if it meant getting Kang fully on his side. "You might want to look into taking a few architecture classes as well, just to get a better understanding of how buildings work."

Kang nodded, smiling. "Yes. I've never designed or built any sort of building like the ones here. I'm used to wood and stone. And truthfully, my specialty is bridges." It was something he was rather proud of.

"There's nothing wrong with wood and stone. And honestly, both are strong building materials." But bridges? That was impressive. He was sure he could work building bridges in somewhere.

"So, I can give you a tour of the facilities if you want."

"If it doesn't take you from your duties," Kang said. "I did have a few questions about how exactly these applications work, too."

"You do? Well, ask me anything. I'm sure I can answer whatever you need." Xanatos gestured away from him in a sort of 'ask away' gesture.

"I've seen several commonalities with the few I've already received, and I'm afraid I can't fill out some of the portions accurately, or at all. Would it be best to guess on the portions I'm not sure of and add a note, and skip the ones I can't, also with notes on why? Being honest may hurt my chances in other jobs simply because I'm an imPort, and not human, and I don't want to hurt them any further. I also don't want to assume that I'm guaranteed a job with you."

He was pretty much guaranteed a job, though Xanatos wasn't going to let Kang know it. "Well, if it's portions like a W2 form, I can easily help you out with that. But portions that you don't know, I'd say just skip over. I know that we aren't issued social security numbers or anything like that." Xanatos shrugged slightly, not sure if Kang even knew what a social security number was.

"Of course, if you have any questions about the forms, feel free to ask me."

Kang smiled wryly. "That would be at least half of the application. I don't even know my birthdate."

"Well...count back how old you are from what year you came here from, then pick a random date." He shrugged again, but this time in more of a 'well, why not?' type of gesture. Xanatos really didn't know what to do about lack of birthdates.

"Alright," Kang stuck his hands in his pockets. Either the man hadn't noticed the mention of his not being human, or didn't care. "What exactly does your... enterprise do?"

"Manufacturing. We mostly focus on defense. I think that manufacturing modern-day weapons might be a little too far from your time, but I'm sure we definitely need your repair skills." Xanatos sighed, frowning slightly as he shook his head. "Things keep breaking around here."

"Mostly? What else do you manufacture?" Kang kept his voice casual, his curious expression never changing.

"Some weapons-but mostly to test the defense capabilities. I try not to create something purely for offensive capabilities unless I have to." Which, of course, he did. He had to make money and he had an order for the guns. That was a valid reason for Xanatos.

"I'm thinking of expanding slightly into robotics though. The technology I had back home was a bit more advanced than the things here."

Interesting, the choice of words being used. "How often do you have to do so, and for what reasons have you before?"

"Well, I'm working on strengthening the plastic material often used in riot shields. I've got a prototype up that's bullet proof, but I want to test it more. Unfortunately, you can't find laser weapons easily here. Considering that they were prevalent back home, we built a prototype of a laser gun to test the shields against."

And then put the gun into mass production. But Kang didn't need to know that.

Half of that went over Kang's head, but he filed it away to look it up later. "If I was hired, what sorts of things would I be working on?"

"Construction. I recently came into some money and I'm in the early stages of moving the company into a few floors of a skyscraper that is in the middle of renovation. I'm working on a floor plan, but we'll need things built and installed. It's simple manual labor for the most part. After that,

Xanatos looked around at his slightly small and shabby building. "As you can see, a new location would be nice."

Kang nodded, having spotted a few potential small problems with it. He couldn't be sure not knowing the building materials and design, though. "Yes, simple enough. What would the hours be, and the pay?"

"Simple hours. Nine to five, five days a week, an hour for lunch break. 8.25 and hour for wages." Xanatos shrugged, slightly. "I think that's good, don't you?"

"Is $8.25 average pay for this sort of thing? I do apologize for all the questions; I want to be as informed as possible." The hours sounded excellent, at least.

"You know, I'm not entirely sure. I haven't really gotten familiar with the paying statistics of this universe yet." Xanatos frowned slightly, thinking. "Why don't you show me what you've got or tell me an example of what kind of bridges you would build? If I'm impressed, we'll raise the pay. Because, to be honest, I'm hiring purely on blind faith at the moment."

Kang nodded, "Certainly. I think it might be best if I drew up a set of blueprints for a given situation and supplies? That you provide, of course."

"A hypothetical situation. Works good for me." Xanatos frowned slightly, thinking. "How about...a smaller store location, to be built in the suburbs, on an acre or so of land." He listed off a reasonable amount of wood, steel and glass that Kang would have for the project, as well as what his construction team would be.

Kang paused, frowning slightly, "I don't know some of those terms or measurements, like a suburb or an acre, and I've never worked with steel in quantities near that size. We don't generally use it for anything beyond weapons. What does the store sell?"

Another pause. "I need to write this down. It'll take a few hours to draw up once I have all the information."

Xanatos counted off on his fingers while he responded to Kang's questions."

"You can use steel to support buildings. Steel in the walls to help support the building, or things like that. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to. An acre is the amount of land you can plow in a day and a suburb is a smaller city that is located near a large city. It usually sells things that you can't find in the city. And, this hypothetical store will be a pet store." Because why not.

"Take as much time as you need. I'm sure I've got a pen and paper around here somewhere..." Xanatos started to rifle through the secretary desk, trying to find where the items were.

"How much land would that be with the technology of this world?" Kang asked, still looking fairly confused with some of the information already given. "I'm sorry. I can't properly design a building unless I have a little more detail than that. Pet stores, what animals do they usually have, and do they sell what is needed to care for the animals as well?"

Xanatos frowned, thinking. "About the size of a football field, I think." Hopefully, he wouldn't have to explain what a football field was. "As for pet stores, they sell dogs, cats, birds, fish and rodents-they also sell what's needed to take care of them, like food or cages."

"How big is that?" Kang mentally cursed. He was probably completely blowing it with his lack of knowledge about anything in that world, and probably annoying the man with all his questions.

He hesitated slightly before asking, "Would it be better if I drew up the blueprints over the next day or two, so that I can look up what I need to? I don't know what specific breeds of animals humans keep as pets here; there are no stores of that nature on my world, even among the humans."

"You know, I can change the concept from a pet store to something you're more familiar with or something more simple, if you want. Say...maybe a tavern? Or a small office building?" The question now is, what was a man who apparently stepped straight out of the Renaissance familiar with? It seemed that no matter how much he explained, Kang still had some questions. Of course, Xanatos was fine explaining things-he just wanted to make it simpler for everyone involved.

The small smile on Kang's face was definitely one of relief. "I am familiar with taverns. I can have something drawn up for that by the end of the day."

"We'll make it a tavern then," Xanatos said, with a smile. "I can't wait to see your results."
