beneath the black, the sky looks dead
WHO: THE VOID and YOU?
WHERE: Around the City and the Brooklyn Bridge
WHEN: Sunday, 8/2
WARNINGS: Violence, death, chaos
SUMMARY: The Sentry loses control.
FORMAT: Quick.
[ There was no abrupt revelation, no struggle; when Robert Reynolds had opened his eyes that day, the Sentry was simply nowhere to be found. He'd flown from the mansion into the sky, a poisonous oily creature wearing Bob's skin and the Sentry's clothes until even that began to shed. Red eyes and an aura like fire and toxic ash, sharp tendrils coiling out behind and around him like sentient shadows.
Years. Years here, trapped, ignored, denied. Bob was done fighting, and hurting; his mind went blank so that someone else could use his body to fight back. But it was his body, too -- the Void celebrated his freedom by flying into the sky, raising his arms and calling upon the sky to darken in deep reds and purples. Clouds collected and rain started pouring; he raised his face to the rain and smiled, before he dropped from the sky and flew cleanly through the Brooklyn Bridge. ]

He can't hear you. You're wasting your breath, Gilbert.

He's never been much of a physical threat. He knows he doesn't pose one to someone as powerful as the Sentry. ]
St-- agh! [ He lets out another pained yell. ] Sentry... Bob. Bob! You need to fight that thing! Snap out of it, damn it!
no subject
It's useless, what you're doing.
[ But he moves back a step, fist unclenching but still shaking. For a moment he hides his face behind his hands. ]
No -- God. I'm sorry. I-I can't-- No--
[ He backs up toward the edge of the roof, but his face darkens again. The Void wrinkles his nose, uncertain for a moment and very angry, but repeats himself: ]
Useless.

Gil can barely stand. He glowers in return at him, the fingers on his left hand twitching. He could use Raven, he thinks. The element of surprise may be on his side and help him long enough to try and talk to Bob again. ]
He's still there. [ He hisses. ] Dammit, Sentry... or Bob... whoever! I don't understand why you're acting like this, but you have to stop.
[ Then as loudly as he can muster: ] You're supposed to be a hero, aren't you?!
no subject
[ The Void clutched his head, glaring hatefully over at Gil and hovering, now, at the edge of the rooftop. ]
The Sentry was never a hero. He was always -- always will be -- just a fraud. A figment.
[ He turns, as if to fly away. Something is keeping him from killing Gil right then; he doesn't like this feeling, that moment where he lost control. ]
A sick and crazy man who wanted to fly.

[ He grits his teeth, grimacing as he pulls the glove off his left hand. This is risky, but he's running on limited time.
In a flurry of black feathers, his Chain appears before him. Gil can already feel the energy slipping from him just by summoning Raven. He can't keep this up for long.
Raven screeches sharply and stretches out its wings. It flaps several times before taking off into the air after the Void. ]

[ The Void swerves, batting angrily at the bird as it flies after him; it's not a problem, but a nuisance. He turns on Gil again, flying at him to outrun Raven, and grabbing an arm to twist, to hurt, to break. He tosses Gil the length of the roof by that arm. ]
It's too late for that.

The Void's vanished from his line of vision, then he can't feel the ground beneath him and he realizes too late he's been tossed back. He can't shield himself; Gil crashes back down with a heavy thud onto the roof, shaking wildly.
Raven's already gone. Left behind are its feathers that fall around them. ]
AUUUUGH!
[ Gil rolls onto his good side and remains there, writhing in horrible pain. ]
